How about the D?

Or are we going to continue to pretend like Staal is still good?
He is going to be given a while before Quinn even begins to think about sitting him down. That may well happen, but he is going to have to be consistently putrid for at least 20 games. Or so I believe.

That Mcd trade is looking worse and worse.
Sure, if we act like Namestnikov was a key piece in the trade.

Hajek, Howden, 1st rounder were all more important in the trade than Names. He was more of a "we have to take a roster player back so we'll take the youngish one they're willing to get rid of and see if he has some upside"

Not quite a throw in, but far from the most valuable piece in the trade.

except that we did throw in a bull of a homegrown forward in JT Miller who probably puts up 60 plus pts this year. We gave up a ton in that trade. Mcdonagh I'm not sad to see go but including Miller and taking this guy back thinking he was a player? he's horrible. Id be looking to trade him all day long. for anything.

Shattenkirk screened Lundqvist on the Subban goal last night. Lundqvist looks up at Shattenkirk and raises his stick/arms. Shattenkirk is very good on the PP. He is basically useless outside on the man advantage.

The Rangers have Shattenkirk, Smith and Staal under contract for 2 more years after this year.

Shattenkirk said he wanted to play in all situations with his new team and that wasn’t going to happen in STL. That’s not happening in NY either. The Rangers acquired McQuaid because they needed a righty for the PK. The Rangers didn’t put McDonagh with Shattenkirk because he wasn’t going to matched up against the opposing team’s best players and kill penalties.

Power play specialist and a 3rd pair D on a quality team. That’s Shattenkirk.

Miller should have been dealt separately for picks. Look at the haul that Detroit received for Tatar.

I'm not going to speculate on leadership and what's happening in the room anymore.

My thing is, Staal being the "permanent A" indicates they're going to play him a lot and never considered sitting him. That's rather upsetting.
Players like Staal at this stage of their careers are here to take the abuse from top players in this league while our rookies learn the ropes and develop.... we’re not really going anywhere this season so I don’t see a problem really

He will get traded, and we’ll get a decent return. We don’t even have all the pieces yet from the McD and Miller trade. One has yet to be drafted, and one has yet to be flipped

This thread big on judging players by their last game. Vesey was hartford bound on here before last night. Not that I’m trying to break the trend, but namestnikov is not only as good as his most recent preseason.

Has namestnikov started off the season in quinn’s doghouse
Seems that way, he was the only ranger with under 10 minutes TOI last night, and he served the too many men bench minor. Hopefully he can turn it around, otherwise at least from an asset management standpoint that would be a bummer
