I have to disagree here.

Maloney has always been a stand up guy and calls it the way he sees it.
He’s been apart of this organization forever and even wore the C for this team.

He works on the inside and witnesses things first hand so I see absolutely no valid reason for him to report fake news.

What does he have to gain by lying?

Nothing..
It's Maloney being a dick. There's no proof that these guys were really "out of shape". They may not have been in as good of shape as other players, and there's always going to be guys at the bottom end of testing and guys at the top end, but saying they were in "bad shape" is inferring information that we actualyl do not have.

...allegedly.

Yes, 3 someones are going to finish bottom 3, but there's a difference between the bottom 3 being 90 out of 100 (numbers for the sake of comparison) and 70 out of 100. We know they were last, but we don't know how far behind they were or how they compared to what was expected of them. We also don't know, in the case of Zibanejad, how he scored the year before. If he went from top 10 to bottom 3, that's significant.

These are all players who are vets and are supposed to be leaders on the team. They were all going into the 1st year of fat new contracts as well. No matter how you twist it, it doesn't look good when they come in last.
In the Maloney interview that everyone is citing he never said they were "out of shape"

He said they finished in the last 3.

I won't debate Smith... he looked like crap, played like crap and was rumored to have show up in bad shape after a "fun" summer.

Kirk was playing on a bum knee. I won't debate him either as we don't know how bad it was at the time and/or if that affected his conditioning. If you have a link to say he was out of shape then I'll gladly say that sucks and he knows better.

Leaving us with Zbad... so if he came in 3rd to last and 4th to last was .0001% better then what?

It's all speculation because Maloney never said they looked like fat, beer and brat swilling middle aged Dads... he said they finished last 3 on a team of pro athletes.

Turcotte retired in 2000...

But hey, we’re tanking so why not sign a 50 year old to center the top line.

I like it!

Gorton said the Rangers view Anderson, Chytil and Howden as centers. They have no plans to move Zibanejad or Hayes to the wing.

MH..I'd definitely be interested in your line predictions.

Mine on #798
I would have to get a feel for Quinn first.

I'd go with

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Chytil-Hayes-Zuccarello
Spooner-Andersson-Namestnikov
Vesey-I don't really care-Fast

Skjei-ADA
Hajek-Shattenkirk
Smith-Pionk

Not a prediction, just what I would do.

So you did actually hear the interview?
Third person confirmed??

Seriously though guys..You have to call a spade a spade here.
None of them brought anything to the table last year.
Scoring on the PP alone is simply not enough.

On a good note, they did spend time with Prentiss this summer so that's definitely a positive..

They missed the playoffs for 7 years with no glimmer of hope they whole time and they still sold out every night. They are the most valuable franchise in the league. I think they'll be more than fine. They aren't comparable to the Coyotes in any way, shape or form.
Sponsorship sales and ticket revenue were down during this period. I was a sponsor at this time. The Rangers were always competitive and gave the fans (false) hope every year.

In the 1960s The Garden was half empty a lot of nights.

I'm surprised you went with ADA over Shattenkirk on the top pair but I wouldn't be opposed to trying that out.
I do feel like this is a make or break season for ADA though.
ADA, Shattenkirk, Pionk on the PP.
Skjei, Smith on the PK.
Does Hajek PP/PK?

2017:

Zibanejad
Shattenkirk
Smith

One of these things is not like the others

I guess he's gonna have to in my lineup, but Marc Staal would be in the real lineup. I shot him into the sun.

I would have gone with Shattenkirk but I don't like he and Skjei together.

It's 2018.

Gorton also said that youngsters will have to prove they are ready and that he wants Chytil and Andersson to grow together with this group of 18-20 year olds. Put it all together and the only possible conclusion is that at least two or even all three of center prospects will start the season in Hartford.

He also said repeatedly "We have no plan" in that article.

The scary part is..I believe him

I like what Gorton said about Hayes. I don't think he should be an automatic to move either. I think he'll be our 2C this year--he'll get power play time from the start as our 2nd option center and he'll be our main option center on the penalty kill. Barring injury though he needs to pass over the 50 point barrier.

There could be a downward spiral if we were like the Dollar Bill Blackhawks. And it is one of my gut beliefs that Sather helps the big picture stability of the organization: he has a big dick resume, Dolan listens to him and leaves him alone.

But that was a uniquely bad situation in Chicago: Canucks and Leafs fans kind of ate shit and dealt with their rebuilds, Detroit has been the most lame duck going nowhere team in the league for years and it's not killing the sport there.

So Gorton will toss a veteran if a youngster shows himself ready for the team.

I'd say he means Ronning, a fast little guy who can finish. And McLeod to the minors, we only need him against the Flyers.

Something has to give here

They don’t want to move anyone to the wing but they’re going to have to eventually

eventually yes. but moving hayes and/or zib shouldn't even be a discussion until the kids make the roster...and for the 3 kids i think that saying they will all start at their natural center position is fair. moving them now would be premature...let them prove themselves and then figure it out. its a good problem to have. and i like that they aren't going to move them to wing just to force them into the nhl lineup

2019-20:

Panarin-Turcotte-Kravtsov
Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Andersson-Howden-Chytil
Who-Cares-Fast

Trade a few picks/prospects for a 1D, sort of like the opposite of what we did with trading McD, and we are ready to contend.
I really like Turcotte, but he won't be ready to center an NHL 1st line as an 18 year old.
