I have to disagree here.

Maloney has always been a stand up guy and calls it the way he sees it.
He’s been apart of this organization forever and even wore the C for this team.

He works on the inside and witnesses things first hand so I see absolutely no valid reason for him to report fake news.

What does he have to gain by lying?

Nothing..
Don't think he claimed he was lying... just saying they finished bottom 3.

That could be because Kirk was fighting the knee or not. (Smith was rumored to be out of shape)

But in 100M dash, saying someone finished bottom 3 doesn't mean they're not sprinters or they can't run... it means they got beat.

I ran a 10.3 in high school.

I mean, it was the 40m, but semantics...

It's not semantics.
The team takes TC testing very seriously and could mean the difference on getting a new contract or not.
If you're Smith, Shattenkirk or Zib, maybe not so much and it shows..

Ok, but assuming everyone on the team is in good shape, somebody still has to finish bottom.

The worst NHL team would beat almost any other team in any other league.

Zibanejad is massive. I don't even think his listing does him justice. He's got an awful lot to carry and sometimes the bigger guys need another week or two to get going.

Similar criticisms were levied at Hayes at one point.

As @Go Away Staal said, he was great to start the season.

That's ridiculous... they're all athletes and someone is going to finish bottom 3. Come on.

@Machinehead beat me to it

Yes, 3 someones are going to finish bottom 3, but there's a difference between the bottom 3 being 90 out of 100 (numbers for the sake of comparison) and 70 out of 100. We know they were last, but we don't know how far behind they were or how they compared to what was expected of them. We also don't know, in the case of Zibanejad, how he scored the year before. If he went from top 10 to bottom 3, that's significant.

These are all players who are vets and are supposed to be leaders on the team. They were all going into the 1st year of fat new contracts as well. No matter how you twist it, it doesn't look good when they come in last.

@Riche16 @Go Away Staal

These are supposed to be the teams new premier players so to simply just accept the fact that they're bottom 3 and they're literally beat out by rookies, fresh off of signing big contracts where the ink isn't even dry yet is pure insanity.

These guys are brought in for leadership and are here to set the example..SMH.

There are no excuses..

I think going 11-11-22 and 5-13-18 in their respective first 25 games are pretty good ways to "set the example" right out of the gate, but what would I know :dunno:

Ok but what was the gap between 1st and where they finished?

And both shatt and zib were pretty productive off the hop. Shattenkirk played with a jacked up knee from game one until he couldn’t take it anymore- I think that probably speaks more to his leadership than his conditioning results.

My prediction:

They're going to come out of the gate like gang busters but once the adrenaline wears off, say 20 games in when teams start to ramp it up, they're going to fall off a cliff..

So you're predicting the same thing that happens to like half the players?

Also on shatty....

Not only was he hurt during every game he played in last year, he also tried to rush himself back AFTER his team had already called it quits last year.

Thankfully he was shut down like he should have been, but I don’t know how anyone can really question his leadership.

I think we'll actually end up pretty similar to last year's Arizona team. That team got off to a brutal start, but were a much better team in the second half of the season. Their poor start still kept them in lottery contention, and they're still trending upwards for this year. I'd be ok with that type of trajectory.
Don’t give Arizona too much credit. This is three years later.

One thing the Rangers will never have to worry about is fans losing interest. And as far as being disheartening, how many times have the Rangers been in the mix for playoffs or more. The Coyotes haven’t been in the mix for anything but a lottery pick for the majority of the franchises history. I don’t think you can compare the coyotes who are having just another par for the course bad season to the Rangers who have for years been active and in the playoffs year after year, as well as being completely transparent about their actions in attempting to build a winning squad.
Don’t be so sure.

We’re also much better than they were when they sold everyone off. We have more established pieces in place with more talented prospects on the cusp.

I specifically mentioned last year’s team because I think they’re more comprable from a youth&veteran standpoint.
