You said "change the course of this rebuild"..that's what I was questioning.

If you could sign Seguin then bringing in other pieces like Panarin and maybe even EK would seem much more plausible, which in effect would change the course of this rebuild and make this team immediately competitive.

Bringing in Seguin alone would be a waste of time IMO.

This team needs a legit #1 center.

What would you do if the opportunity were to present itself?

They are building a new downtown arena, primarily for basketball.

I’ve heard that the Cow Palace got a nice facelift when the San Jose Sharks played there but I don’t know how they could get that smell out of the building.

Not sure when they did that, but as of 2010 when I last was there it was a mess. If the facelift was painting it and fixing the broken seats then I guess they did something. I can't think of one thing I liked about that place, not enough restrooms, bad seats, bad sound, terrible neighborhood and somehow depending on where you sat it was either super cold or super hot(also the smell). Cow is a lot like the TD. If the sharks played there for a bit I'm sure the Seattle team could play in the TD if need be. Cow had an in between size. So if you needed something smaller then a basketball arena but bigger then a typical concert hall/theater, it was the only place around(that I can think of), I think that kept it in business. Good to hear a new place is being built in the city, SF needs it.
That place has a lot of odd/interesting hockey history to say the least... Any time I talk to someone that enjoyed minor/semi-pro hockey in the 1970s, the Cow always comes up.

Based on your moves, you're basically dumping the rebuild for the quick fix. Signing any or all of those guys doesn't make any sense if you don't know what you've got. That's just falling back into old habits.

Right now, there are way too many question marks regarding this team....we haven't a clue as to what Quinn has planned or if it will even work. We also don't know who will fit the new system. We don't know if the draftees will pan out...Personally, I think it's going to take more than one season. I just don't see Gorts suddenly taking a 180 and opening the bank to throw large contracts at any of them (or anyone for that matter) after one season.

:naughty:It’s about the quality of the centers not the quantity. Are any of our guys legit #1 centers? Cause seguin is. We could have 50 centers but if none are #1s then Tyler gets my vote

Of course that all becomes moot when we draft jack hughes and then we can sign Panarin :naughty:

Derek Stepan made the jump from the NHL at 20 after two years at Wisconsin. It take him long to play in every situation. Power play. PK. Matched up against the other team’s top center. Offensive situations. He produced offensively with all of those responsibilities on his plate. No excuses were made about his usage.

Zibanejad was back in NY early this summer. He has been working out with Prentiss. Kreider,Shattenkirk and Smith are also at Prentiss. Dave Maloney called out 3/4 of that group for coming to camp in bad shape. They were the 3 worst players in the conditioning testing.

AV tried Zibanejad in the match up role and he failed. They put Hayes there. They had nobody else. Stepan had no issues with that role and he still was able to produce offensively. No excuses.

Camp opens 2 weeks from tomorrow. NHL regular season starts 5 weeks from today. Can’t wait.

27 is typically the youngest you see UFA's with only occasional exceptions. Dunno how that becomes a 'red flag' in people's evaluations.

Is there anything that isn't a red flag to HFboards? Literally ANY age, ANY injury, how many beers one had last summer, brand of shoes, favorite burger joint, taste of music, that one time someone smoked a joint, what time someone goes to bed.

The list is endless, literally anything is made into a red flag for any player in the league.

At some point we have to stop signing players to contracts full stop and just shut down the league because every single NHL player is going to fall off a cliff within the next 5 minutes, since they cant see where they are going because of all the red flags fluttering in their faces.

Where did Maloney say that? Not questioning u, just wanna read/hear what all he said.

Don't make me say it...
You can get woke me all you want, I just don't see stepan the way you do. I think you have to recognize that not everyone agrees with you or your takes, stat based or observationally based, it's still individual evaluation.

I....don't...evaluate...him...as...a...great.. player.

Just the exact same way I think Anthony DeAngelo has looked very very good and I don't feel like his numbers necessarily match what I'm seeing out there.

I totally get why ppl disagree with me,..i disagree but I get it.

Centers can play winger. What we don't have is a 1C. I don't know why everyone here has decided that since Gorton drafted two centers a year ago who don't project as 1C's that we are fine at center and don't need any improvements there.
That's fine they can get the 1C when Seguin hits the market this summer.

They need the best players they can get.

I have to imagine that Panarin would be a better bang for your buck pick up than Seguin. All things equal though, I'd take Seguin.

Center depth is soooooo overrated. Chicago has won 3 cups with shit depth down the middle.

I... I know that? I can't help the way that you or anyone else read my posts. I'm not out here pretending like I'm the smartest person in the world and everyone else is wrong. Shit, every time I post I'm essentially like: "and I know the way I evaluate players and the way other people evaluate players is different and that's totally cool".

I guess I've made my own bed around here so it's time to lie in it.

But if your beef here is with the semantics of using the word 'great' instead of 'very good', then I mean, fine. I know not everyone thinks Stepan is a 'great' hockey player. That's totally cool. The "don't make me say it" was just a joke after our conversations yesterday, and was not intended to be serious.

There’s your first mistake, arguing with someone who says “get woke”.

Breaking news: Derek Stepan is a great hockey player.

Limited by the fact that he has the physical talents of an average adult male with a dad bod.

But yeah, in terms of hockey IQ he's one of the top in the league.

He looks like H Jon Benjamin.

Na..I don’t see any reason why the rebuild would have to be abandoned but you can’t really expect these kids to just make the roster straight out of camp and have an immediate impact either.

We have a full year to see what they can do and if they start pushing for spots, then you start dumping players..Names, Spooner, maybe Hayes or Zib etc.

If that ends up being the case, dumping those guys will only recoup more assets to go along with the ones we already have in order to continue the rebuild.

That still doesn’t mean you can’t bring in Seguin and Panarin as they won’t prevent anyone from earning roster spots, unless of course, your objective is to tank.
Keep in mind..There’s no guarantees that you’re getting Hughes.

And I haven’t really seen it mentioned here but..Do you really think creating a losing environment is best for these kids?

Seguin and Panarin will cost nothing but money, bridge the gap and make this team immediately competitive.

There is a full year to figure this out.
