Roster Building Thread - Part VIII (2023-24 season)

What about lindgren for Luke Hughes? Devils get better in the short term but both teams split up the bro fests.

I wasn't using that argument so I assume you're not referring to my post. I've been on the trade Lindgren band wagon for 2 years. Let's break up all the BFFs.
No I wasn't, just the reference to Fox last season and the Norris, I was using as a springboard.

Re: BFFs agreed 100%. it's to a point for me where I see a value in jettisoning favorite players in and of itself. Reminiscent of trading Callahan at the deadline. To my mind it's the last message to send this core: we're not here to build a community, we're here to build a winner. Even if you'd love to have both, you can take or leave the former.

In the right deal, I would drive him to the airport. He's a dime a dozen asset.
The right deal? Sure. No one is a sacred cow.
That said as a practical matter
rule not the exception,
I disagree, no
we should keep KK
he will be fine w/heath + correct chemistry/linemates

if guys w/way mo signif injuries can settle into a star NHL career
so is it likely possible for KK

Robertson stinks
Whatev his level -- and I do not agree -- it will not improve until he gets, like Jones, NHL mins and can get thru growing pains

we need to listen to bern
and do that NOW so if he is capable of being a contributor come playoffs, he will be sufficiently futher ready by then

stop w/win now = fail
develop

I would like to see the team make a small move soon, whether that’s calling up Othmann, or acquiring some speed up front, if Chytil and Kakko are out for another 30-60 days. This team needs some life and are relying on the performance of what amounts to essentially 7 4th liners in their forward corps

I’d love Duclair back. But I think Rangers need some energy on this team. Avery type would be good to have. Any pesky pests available. i would not mind Duhaime or Dewar from the Wild someone like that.

The good news for Chytil is that he was photographed at the Garden last week smiling and in good spirits (I saw it on Twitter). So this isn't a situation like with Sauer or Horton where he can't leave the house. The organization with their new approach to injuries is very precautionary and with his history, we probably see him back in February soon after the All Star Break. Just a guess. If he's continuously skating that's a good sign.

Kakko pretty much has a grade 3 sprain or tear of the MCL from the replays. 8-12 weeks. We see him either in March, or maybe not until round 1 if there are cap issues.

The answer to the immediate issues are:

1. Just get Miller back ASAP. Hopefully it's a minor family member situation for either him or his g/f, or even related to his mentor (the baseball player who was the first round pick from the Texas Rangers, I forgot his name) and nothing crazy whether to do like a Shane Pinto, Don Murdoch, or something related to the politics of the current world situation. He's extremely important to this team's success.

2. I'd start auditioning kids with cups of coffee. Edstrom got sick at the worst possible time. Othmann could get a crack. Even Berard. This team needs a jolt and it's very limited with the cap room.

High ankle sprain for Kakko. Maybe. His leg hit the boards. His ankle bent the wrong way.

Unless you're Trevor Lawrence, those are usually 6-8 week injuries. At least.

One of those situations where Lavi should act like Sullivan did in '16-'17 and call up the kids to spark the bottom-six. Bring life, speed, grit, and hunger to a lineup with like seven fourth liners on it. Drury is taking a patient approach, and I understand the need to be patient, but like others have said, I can't see how they survive two more months of 3C Bones.

Who are they calling up to replace Bonino?

We've really failed to achieve any positional diversity in our pipeline. What exciting prospects do we have that aren't wings?

I get the BPA thing but our highest pick has been a wing in like 13 out of 15 drafts (I made that up but I'm actually going to look later).

Ok, I looked. In our last 15 drafts (Kreider seems like a reasonable cutoff point) our top pick has been a winger either 9 or 10 of those drafts. I honestly have no idea what Adam Tambellini was outside of a forward. I'm not counting JT Miller as a center because he never played center here. That also includes the last six in a row.

With that being said, here are the centers:

Lias Andersson
Maybe Adam Tambellini

That's it. Maybe we should draft centers.

Matter of fact, here are all of the guys I'm pretty sure I remember being centers:

Karl Henriksson
Andersson
Filip Chytil
Morgan Barron (?)
Keegan Iverson
Tambellini (I guess)
Boo Nieves
Michael St. Croix
Andrew Yogan

That's 15 years. What a dire list. Maybe we should draft centers.

Miller was drafted as a center if I recall. They just didn't play him at center in NY but he was in Hartford

Unfortunately, it's some of the top six that need to be sparked.

Why take a C in the top rounds when there's a G or a big-bodied D available

100% this. they injected speed into that team and they went from middling to a juggernaut. The more youth enters the line-up, the more alive the line-up becomes. especially when, like said, there are two third lines.
