id much rather see chytil given a chance on the wing with kreider and zib then put back with those two
Chytil has never been good at wing. Also we currently have Nick Bonino in the top 9 at center. That is a very very big problem that you can immediately get rid of with Chytil

I'm a big merit guy. Some people think high draft picks should be given jobs regardless of their play. The reason I mention this is many people including myself would like to see Othman (who has played well) at some point but Jonny Brodzinski earned this most recent call up by leading the AHL in points. To me if he was passed over that would have sent the wrong message.
If they actually went by merit then Brodzinski wouldve been on the team to start the year

There were also perception here & other reported sources that the rise in the cap was going to be more significant once the escrow was paid off. I'm too lazy to look for them, but they were out there. Regardless, having basically a flat cap for 5 years only to increase it 5% after they've been bragging about record revenues seems a bit disingenuous...frankly it's a giant letdown & a slap in the face to fans of large market teams. A $4M increase barely covers the raises some of our players are due. Forget about adding another D man or a front line winger.

The owners are a clown show at this point. They could give a shit about the product on the ice, while Bettman smiles like a troll patting himself on the back for his league wide parity, while we get night after night of Game Managed 3 point affairs.
it was in the fine print that no one ( really just us and media ) realized.. The league bent over the players union duing Covid imo. Players demanded full pay and the league added many stipulations.

There's limits to how much the cap can go up, even after escrow was paid off. It's de-coupled from revenue. I forgot how long it lasts but I think it's 2 seasons. So, in theory the 'major cap jump' comes in 2026-2027

please anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

The biggest question no one’s answered is what happens if at the end of this cba the owners have to make the players whole, and also what happened to the insurance payments. The league likely got money for the covid shutdown from insurances.

Oilers are probably looking for a team to dump Campbell and getting a real goalie from somewhere.
Or to clear space in order to call him up. Plus, they don't have any room for Broberg's next contract. Maybe something based around Jones, who has an additional season under contract, would work. Maybe pay another team to take one of their bad contracts.

This could be as much a message to Kakko and Wheeler as it is a reward for Brod’s play.

Meh, when Kakko was moved off that line Lavy made it pretty clear that it was not just on him. But it was also obvious they didn't want to break up Kreider-Zibs as the first course of action either.

And I don't want to sound like jerk downplaying Brodzinski's play, but it has mostly been that Mika has realized he can play hockey again during the last week or so.

But yeah, obviously you don't mix it up if it's working.

I don't think Brodzinski is a legitimate NHL contributor in anything more than a 13th forward capacity, but sometimes you catch lightning in a bottle where a guy just gets hot or really clicks with talented linemates. I also don't think Brodzinski has been particularly great or anything, but if the whole line is working with him on it, might as well roll with it until it's not working any more.

Opportunity knocking
buy low
if guy is as ruined as we effed up Kravtsov
so be it, it will be a low cost
I have something larger in mind to more fully exploit Oil, but core of this should be around Jones for Bro
we can send Broberg down + straighten him out, hopefully

Kakko for Broberg...??
hell no

Soup is too expensive for too long to dump w/o at least eating half + the add is gonna be way more than a top 10 pick they totally ruined

Clear space makes sense
something around Jones gives them functional 3rd pair guy

High price for a bench warmer. If the Rangers acquire Broberg, I think it means Bern will have to retire.
bern will always be bern
always
fear not

Here you go, Bern. With Nieves as 1C and Broberg as LD1, we will be unstoppable.

too little too late
and I never said Bro as 1LD unless he grew into that
as ya' all know, I have been pushing for Sanderson as our 1LD pair w/Fox

The post is not directed at you. As you are well aware the margins are so thin when it comes to separating bona fide NHLs vs fringe players. I don't think any reasonable (hockey) person would assert that Brodzinski is (or can still realize unlocked potential as) a top-liner or top-6 or even top-9 forward in the NHL. Still I have to take deep breaths when the default and always repeated initial reaction (completely outside of context) is such and such is not a... (e.g.) top-line player. But in the past Brodzinski showed signs of possessing skills that would make him potentially a better fit than other available options. The same argument was (or would be used) if Vesey was promoted to 1RW instead - where instead we would still hear statement that "Vesey is not a top line player"). And to be honest Vesey probably could've been argued to be a better option if not he was so important to what essentially is a 3rd or 3B line iin the way the Rangers operate at the moment. Especially now when both Chytil and Kakko are out - what are other alternatives since Wheeler showed that the only thing in him that gives top line consideration is his name and not much else?
