If Lavs doesn't consider Wheeler a 3C option in case of injury, then we NEED an upgrade there by the trade deadline. Goodrow obviously ain't it. Bonino definitely ain't it.

I keep coming back to Pinto. C/W with upside, probably discounted trade cost, probably discounted one-year deal for this year, can start playing the second half of the season.

We have a 3C. He is injured and recently started skating. Despite the unfounded speculation around here he is not out for his entire career.

Our 3C is playing 2C while our 2C is injured. And Bonino is doing just fine at 3C in a pinch. Better than Goodrow.

I know Chytil ain't dead. LOL We need to have an option in case the injury last a little longer than expected or, Hank forbid, Mika or Vince get hurt. Lavs obviously doesn't want Wheelie or Goodie there, so we need an option that's better than Bonino. We don't have a 20 yo rookie C in the AHL that can cover 3C in a pinch, so it's an organizational hole. If Bones goes down, I'm fine with Jonny B coming up or BG Sliding over. For these playoffs and the future, a C/RW would balance our entire "system."

I disagree with "doing just fine." Bonino was a great signing for basically league minimum, but he has ZERO business playing above the 4th line. Even for 5 games.

"Better than Goodrow," for sure. Barclay was supposed to be "3RW that can cover 3C or fill in on any other line for a small handful of games," but he's been lacking. He's been a "4RW that struggles moving around the lineup." He seems like a genuinely good guy, worked his way up from nothing, has some valuable experience, and sticks up for his boys.

But we signed Wheeler to round out our top 9 due to BG not cementing his spot there. I have to trust Lavs that Blake's not a C for this team, so we're missing a backup for any of our C's this season.

yea not out for his career, but he'll be injured again 5 minutes after whenever it is he comes back. the guy is always injured. he's also not a 3c, i would be absolutely shocked if lavi wants anything to do with using him as a 3c when it really matters. he's borderline useless defensively because he's so soft on coverage and non-competitive on pucks. just as importantly, there is simply no way you can rely on him to stay in the lineup at this point.

I'm sorry what? Do we just get to say things that have no basis in reality now? Chytil is soft on the puck? Chytil last year was one of the best zone exits out of our forwards, Chytil isn't 5'8. He's a solid sized kid, who does play in the hard areas. He's not ROR or someone like that, but he's not "soft". He throws alot of reverse hits, and hes one our best forecheckers.

he is soft as hell on the puck. yea he exits when he gets a pass on his tape in space to skate. but have you actually watched him in his own zone? i don't know how anyone who has could question that. he never picks anyone up in front or does puts himself in position to make any defensive play that might involve making contact. have you not seen him try to defend guys with the puck? he does flyby's waving his stick at them, he refuses to do anything that might force them to separate from the puck. his defensive play involves a bunch of ring turns around the zone waiting for someone else to make a play.

have you not noticed for the last several years his line is ALWAYS one that has a habit of getting pinned in their zone for extended periods getting shelled? that includes this year. the panarin/laf line has created offense with troch and chytil...although that too has jumped up with troch. but whenever the puck got into their defensive zone with chytil they had a much harder time getting out. with troch they have been way more efficient at getting pucks back quickly. that's because trocheck will actually roll up his sleeves and play in the trenches. it's night and day and it's no secret why.

I don’t see any reason to break up the Lafreniere line. Like at all.
Yeah. I don’t want Chytil in the top six if he can’t be counted on to stay healthy. Play with the third line. If he stays healthy and productive, great. If not, we don’t want interruption to the top six. Also puts a bit less pressure on Chytil. Sad to say it but the team can’t count on Chytil - at least not until he shows the ability to stay healthy for a real extended period. Mika went through this too and he figured it out. Hoping that’s what Chytil does too. But for now I’d leave him on the third like. Chytil-Cuylle-Kakko sounds interesting too.

I don’t think it’s as extreme an issue as you paint. But I agree, Chytil is not nearly as reliable as Trocheck. If Trocheck were 24 and homegrown I think he’d get much more appreciation from the fans here.

He has really never been hurt for a huge chunk of a season. He's played 85% of games the last 3 seasons.

Kakko screwed by horrible center play all year. Think Chytil helps him out of the funk

Seems like he misses a week or two once or twice a year and then takes a while to get back on track once healthy.
As opposed to a guy who gets banged up and misses a game here and there. Which isn’t so disruptive.
Maybe I’m wrong but I feel like he has one or two extended absences each year. And that’s not reliable enough for a top six guy on a contender. At least not this year.

I’m beginning to have some hope that someone like Edstrom could find a way to get maybe 3-5 games in the next month or so just to see where he’s at. It would be nice if the team felt they at least had a true 5th center who could play 7-10 minutes a night

He's not a C though. He's playing pretty good in Hartford albeit a lot of empty net goals which is hillarious.

I think of all the prospects, he's probably the most likely who can come up and hang for a few games just to keep up with the pace and make solid defensive plays.

Honestly, there's no reason to rush Chytil. This was probably the heaviest week of the season and will be for a bit. They've gotten a lot of road games out of the way.

If Chytil is progressing, I hold him out and make sure he's 110% until January 4th or 6th.

I haven't watched a lick of Hartford but why wouldn't Riley Nash qualify for that?

I hate to do this but at what point are we going to seriously start looking at what mid 6 centers could be available at the deadline. I hate that chytil is struggling but this team has a chance to make noise this spring and it cannot go in with bonino as the 3c. We all want chytil back and healthy but even if he is back at this point with his general history you almost need to consider it a bonus if he is playing. This is going to make for an interesting deadline.
