Coincidence? Someone on here called out Jonny Lazarus for being silly by asking Alexis Lafrenier “if he was going to go home and watch his S/O goal”.
The next day when Lazarus was on the DFO, Jonny said he felt silly for asking Alexis that question.
If you played any level of high end hockey you likely laughed at Laz's question. Because every junior/college/pro player 100% goes home and watches their own highlights especially if they have a nice goal. Laf was for sure lying by saying he didn't go home and watch it over and over again

My concern is we have a roster that is working and want to change it for funsies. Line 1 with Kakko was analytically a top 10 line in the league. Most here say Kakko has looked better with Cuylle. Now we want to move him? We can have a defensively sound line 3 with offensive potential with Chytil. Why would we break that up before it happens? Can't any of you just enjoy the team winning?
Clearly not.
We have depth, we’re winning in spite of injuries and our younger players aren’t liabilities at the moment, so we should blow it up now.

The same fans wanted to trade Jones for a mid draft pick like 2 weeks ago.

He's had a few good games in a now, but I for one am not sold on Jones being a regular come playoff time.

His awareness and positioning in the defense still leaves a lot to be desired and time will tell of his offense can compensate for that.

I hope there is some cap wiggle room by the deadline to get a veteran bottom pair defenseman as an insurance policy for the playoffs.

We've seen this sitcom before: that insurance vet is going to suck balls and cost us some games and maybe a series. TDL players are broken bargain bin clearance sale items. I'd rather lose with ZJ f***ing it up than some no name vet dumped by a smarter team for a 2d.

Well I also said 'insurance policy' as in a extra defenseman incase Jones cant handle it... long season we will see how he pans out.

Its prolly a moot point anyway because if all of the D are healthy goin in to the playoffs, Jones wont be playing anyway

Jones was good against the Devils. Their forwards are the same size as Jones. The Devils have those small little forwards. He can skate with them.
This is the issue. I expect him to be Jekyll and Hyde. Against the bigger/playoff caliber teams, he will most likely be a weakness... If he could counteract it with some offense that'd be great...

I 100% would prefer a Mikkola type but we're talking about our #7 now... Jones is probably up there when talking about #7Ds in the NHL

The Rangers can win the Cup. The other teams aren’t very good. The Rangers have flaws. The other teams have flaws.

Drury should go all in this spring. The Rangers don't have much cap flexibility. Find a 3rd team to retain. Defense. Another bottom six forward(even with Chytil being healthy). RW? I like Kakko. Put him back with Zibanejad and Kreider. Both of those guys need to be better. Wheeler was good for Winnipeg against Vegas in the playoffs last season.

Will there be package deals this season? The Blues traded Tarasenko and Mikkola to the Rangers and ROR and Acciari to the Leafs.

If Chytil is out and he can't return this season, what does Calgary want for Lindholm and Zadorov? Put Chytil on long-term IR. 1st round pick in 2024 plus other picks. Jones? Does Robertson have a future in the organization? His waiver exemption ends after this season.

Time to win. This season.

Jones has high offensive ceiling that he has still to reach. Obviously while being a shotdown defenseman is not in his future, there’s room to improve there as well with more experience and further maturation. In certain D core structures he could project to be a valuable top-4 D. I see no need to rush moving him this season.

I think he's been pretty good for the most part since Fox went down. He's always gonna have have a tougher time with bigger forwards along the boards but as long as he is making that first pass out of the zone and involved offensively it's something you can deal with.

Jones has been great. if we would've played him instead of Schneider or Mikkola we would've won that playoff series last year in less than 7 games.

I get you’re being hyperbolic. But 1g/1a, and Mika and Ck have both barely scored.
He was robbed of points by both Mika and Ck. And the amount that cuylle and he forcheck, they’ll score easily once bonino is off that line.

I know things appear better and his underlying numbers look good but at some point, and it's not right now, we will have to all come to the realization that the points aren't coming. In that scenario, there may be a team, or teams, that still see him as an eventual 60-70 point 2-way winger. If those teams exist then it may behoove the organization to move on.

Again, that time isn't now, but it may be at the deadline. Or it may be this off-season.

I was going to say this. Jones plays Hughes and the other small forwards really well. His lateral mobility and strength for his size is actually pretty decent. It's the big guys he has trouble with which makes sense.

I'm not in a rush to trade Jones. He's a RFA at years end and makes peanuts against the cap. Most smaller d-men take a bit of time to develop so even if he isn't a regular next year it's worthwhile to try and develop him.

Idk man, dont you think we should be stockpiling assets for the future?

I see no need to trade him and with the Gustafsson probably pricing himself out we are gonna need Zac.

This is the time to strike for sure. Your top players are all 30+. At forward anyway.

Yet Jonny Lazarus did play college hockey.
Jonny Lazarus asked the question.
Jonny Lazarus said the next day that he thought his question was silly.
DFO didn’t bring up his question, Jonny Lazarus did.
The point was not about the question our the answer.
The point was do hockey writers and hockey pundits read hfboards.
There seems to be the circumstantial evidences that the answer might point to yes.

This team is dangerously close to being back in trouble with the draft pick pipeline moving forward. And we've done so without getting a star player here with any term like we did with Rick Nash, Keith Yandle, and to a lesser degree MSL.

How many more rentals are you all willing to risk? The cap is going to do nothing but rise. If we're risking any more of the future it should be for an impact player with salary retention and term like we did with Yandle.

Re-sign Gus and go get a right winger.

I’m sorry what?
Of our top 9 forwards (when healthy) 2 of them are over 31.
1 defenseman is over 31.
We have youth all over our roster, we have vets who aren’t going anywhere but are also still closer to prime than too old.

We have 2 A prospects, we have multiple B prospects.
So long as we manage the nhl cap and raises appropriately we’re in a great spot with our prospects. The only position we’re really weak farm wise is center, but if Chytil gets healthy, we don’t need one for years.

The Rangers got two top nine kids who walked in the door for free in Kevin Hayes and Jimmy Vesey. They will always be a college FA draw, especially if they are thin.

The Rangers should be willing to trade any futures for win now help that aren't Brennan Othmann & Gabriel Perrault. This is the window. My preference is getting a guy with term and retention who can help for a couple years, but I'm open to rentals for sure. The team can't go into the playoffs with any holes, Drury knows this.
