In a tie game or with the Rangers protecting a lead,McDonagh and Shattenkirk will on the ice for D zone face offs? They will be matched up against the opposing team's best line? McDonagh and Shattenkirk will be on the ice against OV and Crosby/Malkin?

Fewer tie games, for starters

Kreider - Zib - Buch
Vesey - Hayes - Nash
Xx - Miller - Zucc
Grabner - DD/Lias - Fast
Puempel

Who is XX?

That is the question

I think Toronto might be a good team for AV to look at. With Hyman, JVR, and Marleau seemingly roster locks on the left wing. Komorov, Leivo and Martin are all competing for the 4th line spot, at the same time prospects are knocking on the door (grundstrom, johnsson). While komorov and Leivo are better players, I believe Martin will get the spot to keep opposing teams honest with our young players.

From an outside perspective i feel that leivo is a better fit on new york now and in the future than komorov. Leivo is a young player who has proven to be NHL ready, but unable to lock down a full time position due to depth on LW. He is physical, speedy, and has a nice shot. He should slot in well on the 3rd line, and has 2nd line PF potential. With our LW depth, I feel that he will be able to be aquired at a discount, and I would not be too upset about seeing him get opportunities elsewhere while salvaging some sort of package of pick(s), preferably 2019 or 2020.

My question to rangers fans: Is there any interest in Leivo, and if so, what would you consider a fair offer for him?

I like this line up and think you are right... that they go with pairs of top 6 guys to spread the depth and get mismatches.

I don't think DD is a guy you win win.. same with Puemps. Lias... I think he makes it... but I still believe the team needs two bottom six forwards.

Maybe they think Gropp or Fontaine is ready... If Vesey takes a step forward... then the Rangers are in a sweet spot.

If this team clicks, and the majority of people are firing on all cylinders (or close to), 50 wins is a very attainable goal.

The keystone to the defense is the continued progress of Skjei - even moreso than Shattenkirk or the emergence of a rookie on the third pairing. To me, Skjei continuing to move forward is critical.

On offense, it requires Kreider and Miller to be even slightly better than they were year, but more importantly it requires Z to be healthy and really grab that opportunity to be a top line center. Ideally, he needs to be at that 25 goal, 60-65 point mark.

Buch also needs to take that next step, if he can get to the 20 goal, 45-50 point zone, it gives the Rangers several good weapons on the wings.

So for me, it's three names that stand out - Skjei, Zibanejad and Buchnevich.

Yeah and I've said it before... and happy I could provide some counter content to the bloggers out there... but the team needs two bottom six forwards that can fill roles. Say Andy is one of those x-factors has BBK has up there... then you need one.

IMO they should aim for a RH C/W for a 3rd line role... and a veteran 4th line center.

Buch-Zib-Zucc
Vesey-Hayes-Nash
Kreider-Miller-C/RW
Grabner-Andy/Vet-Fast

That plugs every role.

Nothing significant, likely because he'd only be a fourth liner. If Andersson's not ready, we have players like Grabner and Fast who can slot in on line 3.

If we are making a significant trade for a Toronto forward, I'd think its Bozak.

And that's worse than McDonagh-Girardi in what way...?

Yes.

A 3rd, or comparable prospect. Toronto protected him and didn't deal him yet though, so unless he is severely outplayed in TC, why do you think Toronto moves him now?

I'm surprised more guys weren't brought in on PTOs, which just lends further support to the idea that the organization either has someone pegged for the role or has something in the works. Or waiting for waivers.

That said, it is possible PTOs were offered and players instead accepted PTOs on teams where they saw better opportunities for a contract.

Yes and that's wonderful. What's your point?

Do you think it is a possibility that after camp is over, Holden is traded for that forward? This of course providing our rookies play well.

If they don't, is it possible someone else is traded and Holden is kept?

I think this has been the plan all along. There's just too many options on defense and not enough forwards

Yeah, Grabner in particular can play third line easily. Him on the fourth is a great luxury, but a luxury. If we're shopping for a fourth line type, I'd move Grabs up first for sure.

Personally, I believe a lot of teams are waiting to see how their rosters look in camp, having lost some pieces to the expansion draft.

I also believe teams are waiting to see what Vegas does with their plethora of defensemen.

In the Rangers case, they're going to see how their battle for bottom pair assignments works out first. For as many possibilities as they have, there's also a major experience vacuum there, which says nothing about guys who are also new to AV's system.

If I were to place a bet today, I'm also going to say that Andersson starts the season with the team. They take a long look at him, take a look at what they have on defense, and then make a move. I don't think the Rangers feel rushed at this point.

This makes quite a bit of sense

Hyman - Matthews - Nylander
JVR - bozak - Marker
Marleau - Kadri - Brown
Martin - Moore - Kapanen

I can't see Babcock removing Martin, but martin can play both wings. He would have to majorly outperform both Komorov and Kapanen, whom are both much more established in the lineup and trusted by babs.

I think Toronto would move him only because he is not needed, despite being a good player. Better to get an asset than let Leivo walk away after his contract expires, whilst damaging his career.

I think Bozaks a good fit, and the leafs can slot Marleau/nylander in centre, and I would be open to miving him. However, I'm not sure if management feels the same way.

For sake of argument, Bozak would command at least a 1st round pick. Would that be something you would be comfortable trading?

It's part of our plan to acquire a controlling interest in the top 60 picks from that draft.

We are, or have been, in on everyone from Tavares to Duchene, Kreider to Moore, Erixon, O'Reilly, Pirri.

We like that draft. =)

I could be wrong but I don't foresee The Rangers trading a 1st round pick for anyone other than a long-term asset. They just traded away Derek Stepan. Why turn around and trade a high end asset for Bozak?

You could use another D, Holden!! Holden and a 5th for Leivo

My thoughts exactly, essentially you are trading down in centre quality to trade up in the draft.

Why wouldn't they be and who do you propose gets the match-up instead? In any case that's an upgrade to Girardi.

McDonagh-Smith to close out games. Put Skjei with Shattenkirk. All of the tough situations go with McDonagh-Smith.

The Swedish junior coach said Andersson will get the 9 game look with the Rangers. It's unknown what happens after that.
