10 lbs. for Otthman puts him at 6'0 198, according to the Rangers roster.

Its probably more like 6'0 192, but either way, thats what you want to hear.

Putting in the work.

10 lbs for Lafreniere puts him at 6'1 205

As if the team isn’t slow enough already now we have Othmann bulking up instead of slimming down to gain some speed

He plays a physical game. If he slimmed down to gain speed, he most likely become injury prone. Cant have a team of figure skaters

I rather the Rangers sign these younger players to NHL contracts as opposed to signing AHL players to NHL contracts that won’t get any NHL games. What a waste. Rather have the younger player as depth.

There is a 50 NHL contracts limit and the Rangers are at 46 according to cap friendly. We usually like to keep at least two openings just for trade purposes. Can't just go out and wing it signing every free agent CHL'er that's around. Also you need some experienced pros at the AHL level to provide stability for your better prospects coming in. 1) it's better for the young guys to be on a team that wins more than it loses and a team full of prospects is going to get their heads handed to him and 2) there's all the shit that happens outside the game and your older vets are going to help the younger kids negotiate life on their own in a new and unfamiliar city/culture. It was a big deal last year for the Pack to finally make the playoffs and that's the kind of thing that grows players like Cuylle, Garand, Emberson etc. That was a very positive experience for them.

If he really put on 10 lbs of muscle, he needs to hook Panarin up with his supplier.

My thought on this is that Panarin eased up on the "supplies" after he got his bag. His conditioning used to be impressive, but that's years ago now (I know he's been injured but that doesn't take away from the point).

I’m not sure he ever used anything.

If he wants to return to form, he should start.

Why not sign those vets to AHL contracts especially if they know they won’t get ice time with the Rangers. They are AHL vets for a reason. Contract spot open.

I would argue that speed is more important to playing an effective physical game in the NHL than size.

Not to belabor that Othmann is slow or to imply that he can't succeed.

He was a malnourished shrimp among shrimps in his junior years. The path from that to a standout physical specimen (at his peak) in terms of relative strength and conditioning in a professional league is a big jump.

There are legitimate issues but the way we talk about Panarin is so ridiculous.

This is not a guy no longer taking PED's.

What are you talking about man? Do you know who the 46 contracts are? They are indeed guys who could conceivably be called up.

If you lift your head up from your stat charts and look how Panarin plays in the playoffs you see a superstar that's been a flop in the post season. The issue is that his style demands that the other players on his line adapts to his game - which in turn causes other issues with other lines i.e. it impacts the entire top three lines. For the Rangers to be a winning team in the post season Panarin is a player that must take the lead and make the entire line and team around him better. The last couple of years he's been far from that.

Yes, Panarin is excellent at making good stats for himself, but this is a team game and that sh*t doesn't fly. He is a superstar who disappeared up his own rear end not long after coming to New York. That's the truth and fancy personal stats doesn't change that fact.

This is a valid argument when we're talking about Panwar or Marchessault in the past. However, signing a kid like Petrovski (Who I am intrigued by) wouldn't affect our 50-contract limit because his contract would be exempt.

This rule also applies to Sýkora and McConnell-Barker.

Players who meet the following three conditions do not count to this limit:

1. The player is 18 or 19 years of age.
2. Is in a junior or European league
3. Who have not played 11 NHL games the current season.

Exactly. Othman’s game relies on strength and physicality. The last thing you want to do is tell him to “slim down” to get faster. Let’s take players and try to make them a totally different thing than what made him successful to this point. 6’ (maybe 6’1” at this point) 200lbs is not exactly a fireplug, it won’t make him slow. In fact if his leg strength is increased he may be quicker/faster. Connor McDavid is 6’1” 195, very similar build and he seems to get around okay. Maybe he should drop 10 pounds to get faster. This fan base is so doom and gloom negative sometimes that it’s amazing.

Othmann literally said, he wanted to bulk up but not get slower.
I think he's aware of how he needs to be both strong and fast.

If you offer those players AHL contracts, they sign NHL contracts with other teams. A team full of young, fringe prospects isn't going to be competitive. We need good AHL players to help provide a good environment for the prospects who actually have a chance to make it.
