Rookies and young players like 33 year old Dom Moore, 29 year old Brian Boyle, and 27 year old Derek Dorsett? What?

Dom Moore was 25 when he was a rookie, Brian Boyle when the Rangers traded for him was 24 years old, Dorsett was 26 when they traded for him. I was talking about when they became Rangers, not the end of their career

Oh that's right.

I hate when the rules are not in the notion of doing what's best for the players. Especially young players. Objectively, those guys would benefit from a rookie NHL camp.
I mean... I agree... but also NCAA teams would be playing pros if they were allowed.

Professionals receive compensation for their work.

The question is always... what is compensation? A plane ticket? A meal? Equipment? Training staff time?

No Will Cuylle, but Henriksson is on this roster.

Maybe the Rangers expect Cuylle to be on the Rangers.

I think that Cuylle, being a player who has played a year and a half of AHL hockey and being 6'3 210+ lbs has more to do with it. He was a top-6 power forward in the AHL last year and he knows how to handle the physical side of things. I think it would be more likely to see some young player try to goad him into something dumb and it wouldn't be worth his time.

What's ironic is Karl Henriksson who is a full year older was invited. About the same amount of AHL time as Cuylle as well.

The guy I am most shocked to see is Trivigno who is 24 and played and entire season in the AHL last year.

Im guessing they expect Cuylle to make the Rangers. I don’t get why else he would not be on the roster. He is at the rookie showcase so I bet that is it.

Slim to none in NCAA hockey

playing on whether the football players are now pros or not.

Lol I figured it was a joke. But some people think the NIL stuff means players are getting paid. When in reality it's just basketball and some football players.

The only way a kid can get a bag in NA before pros is being really good and signing in London

Yeah, I get it. I've always been of the idea that colleges should stay the f*** out of players pockets. It's none of their business if a player makes money on his down time with his own skills/likeness. Never understood the other side of the arguement as to me it seems to be motivated by pure greed.

Didn’t they sign Panwar to an AHL contract?

The Wolf Pack did. He's not contracted to the Rangers, so he's still an invitee.

Like Marchessault in the past, Panwar is not in the Rangers organisation. Not on the depth chart, not part of their 50 contracts etc.

This is also the same camp the Rangers told Kravtsov to skip in 2021. There are no clear requirements. It's up to the team's discretion who to invite.

I rather the Rangers sign these younger players to NHL contracts as opposed to signing AHL players to NHL contracts that won’t get any NHL games. What a waste. Rather have the younger player as depth.

Yes yes! Give us the unproven younger player with zero Pro experience to eat up an NHL contract as opposed to signing guys who have some Pro experience, including NHL games, that you hopefully only need to fill in for a handful of games on the 4th line but again they aren’t first timers with the NHL roster competing for prime points during the regular season jockeying for playoff position.

This narrative forever drives me crazy. As if calling a player a 2C over a 3C will cost a guy EA Sports experience points. He plays plenty at even strength. His issue is he doesn’t play special teams. Guy needs to work on PK.
I always assumed it was more about the defensive responsibilities. Like how a defenseman prefers one side or the other. On offense the guys are always cross-crossing so I can’t see how that part is a concern.

That, and the notion that a player will automatically develop faster if he plays more.

I don't see how that is incorrect in most cases. If you put up 2 exactly equal prospects in terms of skill and everything, one gets 8 minutes on the 4th line, the other is getting 18 minutes on the 1st line, over an entire season, the guy getting the 18 minutes is likely to develop quicker.

But if you are talking a few minute difference, then yea it likely doesn't make much of difference.

Would've liked to see some other guys invited too. I know Hudson Thornton was at Seattle's development camp earlier in the summer but haven't seen anything new there. Hasn't signed anywhere, no longer draft eligible. He'll be back in Prince George this year. With our prospect depth at D, definitely a guy I would've taken a gamble on an ELC for. I like that you could send him straight back to juniors too.

Really surprised that the 2 standout QMJHL UDFAs didn't garner any interest all summer, Théo Rochette and Josh Lawrence. Both are headed to Switzerland, Rochette's 1st game starts today. Kinda strange to me, majority of the guys that didn't get ELCs at least got minor league deals. Maybe teams are shying away from the Q? I could maybe see more so with Rochette because he's more of a skill guy with less facets to his game... but Lawrence? Odd. He's in that Yanni Gourde mold.. undersized, good mix of skill and grit. Plays any position. Penalty kills and plays on the PP. Lawrence is phenomenal on faceoffs. Destroyed the Q that past 2 years. He's one of those guys though where if the skill doesn't translate to higher levels, the skating, work ethic and faceoff ability could still project him as a solid bottom 6 guy.

After the Q, Gourde spent 2 years alternating between the ECHL and AHL and spent a total of 5 years in the minors before getting an NHL shot, Marchessault spent 4 years down there... so I wouldn't close the door on either of the 2 above yet but they'll have to standout in Europe. Another Q guy, maybe Barré-Boulet will be the next one. On paper Tampa looks like they have some holes in their top 9, maybe finally the year where the kid gets his chance.
