I do think us fans need to lose this narrative that players can only develop on the top line getting force fed PP time. If Cullye is ready then he’s ready. Play him in the roll he’s ready for. If he’s not ready or you don’t have a roll for him yet then leave him in the AHL. Fans here have gone from developing players properly. Each prospect is different to we need to rush rookies and force them into roles even if they aren’t ready “for their development.”
That's actually how it works but everyone chants the opposite

No, no. Repeating the errors of the turn of the century into the early 2000s would be signing Kane to a 5 x $5 million deal as they often did then. We are talking about signing him to a 1 year deal at $3 million or less. Likely $2 million imo. That is a bargain no matter how many times you want to dismiss that he scored 92 points 2 years ago, or how you move the goal posts that it was because he was on a crappy team even though he has scores at that consistency his whole career. Keep moving those goal posts.
I never said anything about the quality of his team. Just that he’s another teams star of the past so let’s not be the leagues retirement home. So no goal posts moving here.

Based on Larry sending out cope tweets for the organization yesterday, I honestly think Motte doesn’t actually want to play in NY

He’s only cool playing here when it’s for 6 weeks at the end of the year, or if we’re gonna pay him more than everyone else (which they didn’t)

Taxes aside, you can’t tell me if Motte comes to Drury this week and says I’ll sign for a million that deal isn’t done in an hour

"Drury doesn't have 800k?" is the wrong approach here.

It's "Drury doesn't have 2M as we're into September now, and Motte had his chance early in the summer and it didn't fly with Drury then. Now that the summer is almost over, and Drury has used up his cap space on players who are roughly in the same ballpark, and he's at 48/50 on contract slots. Ooops, too bad Motte....team's full. Guess you could have been more attractive sooner in the summer."

No sense in complaining on missing out on Motte, since he clearly wasn't available when the time was right. He bluffed his hand and everyone was laughing at it the whole summer until he played the actual hand he was dealt.

Nah, it's the same old story - thought he was worth more, waited, waited, waited, and then "oh shit, I better sign with someone".

Drury probably heard his initial ask and said screw that and signed a bunch of 800K players. The horses were out of the barn by then.

What gets me is that in the same rant he asks Drury to improve D. Where do you find such D for the same $800.

Pitlick is potential sacrificial lamb as is if Cuylle outplays him and especially if Othmann earns a spot too. Motte would be a higher obstacle which could be a consideration but also just purely financially Motte is better off making his $800 in FL (which seems his priority as he was unsuccessfully holding off for large contract)

I know this is an unpopular thing to say but New York isn't this dream destination where everyone wants to play. Sure, it's a nice destination for some, but it's not the be all, end all especially in hockey.

Motte not wanting to play in NY isn't that outrageous. He was traded here twice. He didn't have a say. And twice he signed elsewhere.

But the story about his agent asking for too much, resulting in his agent being fired by Motte, does fit the explanation by Larry.

All things considered, Motte is lucky to get a contract before training camp. If it wasn't for Archibald stepping away from hockey, he'd be relegated to a PTO invite at most, because all teams are pretty much set this far into the off-season.

One thing about this year i like is that all the talking heads are writing us off as a mediocre team with no chance at a cup. I like us being the underdog, it usually works out better for us when we are.
