Roster Building Thread: Part VII (2023-24)

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Maybe with some young enthusiastic blood it might change a bit in the next 10 years.....I would not hold my breath though as most Ranger teams down through the years would sooner watch a teammate do the grunt work for them and take a beating . That stuff can be changed quickly with the right people swapped out....like as an example moving a Kreider and adding an Adam Graves type . Who might be an Adam Graves type in this day and age ???? We could certainly use a guy like him ! Guys like Tochett and Gary Roberts....those guys were team leaders . I also know they will never trade Kreider .....but it should be considered if we had that chance to find the next Adam Graves !

Yeah, would be nice to have a burner on that line, especially to compliment Lav's lock system we are hearing about.

But at least Pitlick is a RHS, has a decent shot and goes to the net

If McDavid had become Vincent Trocheck, then you’d be disappointed. If your 60th OA became Trocheck, then you hit a grand slam.

If Cuylle becomes a great 3rd line player, then that’s be phenomenal. If Laf is just the same then he’ll be a gigantic disappointment and most likely gone in 2 years.

You are reinforcing the point:
if McDavid had become Trocheck he would be a massive disappointment but still A VERY GOOD NHLER.
We all agree expectations exist. We all agree Laf has not met them: he has been a disappointment for his draft pedigree. And yet, LAF IS STILL A GOOD NHLER ALREADY. I’m not sure how people don’t understand expectations of better play do not negate how well he HAS performed. A player does not have to live up to draft expectations to be a valuable NHLer. They are two DIFFERENT things. IF Cuylle and Laf played equally well, they’d be equal players regardless of where they were drafted. This is just simple acceptance of REALITY. If we were building a team and could add a former first round pick, or a guy same age drafted in the fourth round who offers a bit less, are you telling me we should pick the fourth rounder who isn’t quite as good simply because he was a better draft value? That’s f***ing insane. Haha.

And we were still paying him 5 years after he left the team and he was a much better player than Lindgren (My opinion).
 
As un-exciting as this summer has been, can anyone say that we don't have a better lineup this October to start the season than last?

I mean, Reaves, Carpenter, Hajek, Hunt, Blais, Halak vs.

Wheeler, Bonino, Pitlick, Gustafsson, Nash, Quick

Wheeler the best player there by a mile, Bonino > Carpenter, Gustafsson > Hajek, Blais (NYR Version, not STL version) < Pitlick, Hunt was a 3 game cameo and cya, and Halak > Quick. You have the Reaves "locker room" factor but he wasn't a factor on the ice.

And then there's the Cuylle/Othmann possibilities and everyone else is the same. Maybe Kane joins the team in December/January.

I see that you have yet to apply all the -50% skill and -50% speed attributes that players automatically get when they put on a Rangers jersey.
