With our lack of center depth... and our abundance of wingers and puck moving d-men... it would be interesting to see this group in a torpedo system.

Everyone develops at their own pace. Kakko moved continents as an 18 year old.

Lafreniere is a in a completely different situation than any other first round pick. You cannot just pretend that no hockey in 10 months, a two week camp and no exhibition games has not had any effect on a 19 year old rookie. That is a material reason for ANYONE to struggle. And it is not like he is struggling. He is not on the scoresheet. If some of the vets pulled their heads out of their tukhuses, he would have had some points. And Kakko wuld have more.
If had of played with Team Canada I think...although it was never a guarantee ...I would say he would have had a MUCH better start in NY . Guys like him are thoroughbreds and they NEED to be playing a lot to have it all going . Remember...he likely played 25 minutes a night on average in Junior for the last two years and who knows what before that....they are racehorses and they LOVE to RUN ....or in his case...skate .

I really would like it if NYR would look into the cost for barrett hayton. kid is getting buried on the 4th like playing low minutes. This is a guy with top 6 center upside and he is playing 4th line wing. Wonder if there would be a way to pry him out of there...
I wonder what Bobbop thinks on him ? The kid has only played about one seasons worth of games in the last 2+ years....progressed well in junior I assume until hurt? ....numbers were increasing .

The Rangers haven’t let Drury interview for these positions right? Can’t imagine they’d want him to go in division

although at some point if they keep denying his requests to interview he may get pissed

He has a very movable deal in 3-4 years. That’s considering what/ if there are cap increases, any emergence of our younger guys like Chytil, Bernard, etc maybe someone coming out of no where with a 2nd, 3rd, 4th rd pick?? With the foundation this team has on the wings, in net, and on D I think the front office really doesn’t want to commit to zibby long term. He can be streaky at times, is not a proven leader( put DJing before training in Ottawa until he matured a little), and he has a concussion history that would make them wary of a long term deal to say the least. JD and Gorts are watching the Eichel and Barkov situations very closely. The plan is to obtain 1 through trade or FA over resigning Zibby. You can take that to the bank. Eichel would cost a lot for sure, but if rangers keep stacking the cupboard it won’t hurt as bad as many think. Especially if he Demands out and the dressing room turns into a circus with an unhappy captain.

Moveable in 3-4 years? I really hope so but if he continues to play the way we know he plays, this will end up being an attached 2nd round pick just to move his ugly contract. He is into his houdini ways of appearing for a few games then disappearing for 10 games. If people dont think that his play will continue to be the same or get worse in a year or two then they are dreaming. His contract will be difficult to move.

What does the rest have to do with Krieders contract?

Yes we will have alot of dead cap space coming off the books, but the cap IS going to stay the same for the next 3 years. Also we will NEED that cap in order to resign players like Chytl, Buch, Fox, Lindgren, Laf, Kakko.

Losing Zibs would suck but if we got a guy like Eichel or Barkov, they will be making around 10m a year which is a big increase on Zibs contract numbers. So again we need to find the cap space. Keeping Krieder is and will continue to hinder this team long term. Horrible signing when it happened and it will be the signing that everyone is going to regret bc we will HAVE to buy him out or add an asset to him to move that contract.

Wasted cap space is buyouts, Jack Johnson, and bad players. It's not 5M for the 4th leading 5v5 scoring among dmen last year. Having two guys similar on PP1 is a good thing. It gives you insurance. If Tony scores 40 pts/year because he's playing PP2 as opposed to 55 if he was playing PP1 that doesn't make him any less valuable. The sum of him and Fox will remain roughly equivalent.
It’s both. If you are paying a guy whose primary value is PP1 QB, and he isn’t in that role, he is overpaid.

That may be the case. However, I do not think that the Rangers were willing to take any chances on him getting hurt.

The circumstances that I described in him starting this season are unlike any 19 year old draft pick has had to deal with. People need to take that into consideration instead of ignoring it.

His primary value is not PP1 QB. It's 5v5 offense. He also is good on the PP. So is Fox. Fox/DeAngelo can be relatively interchangeable on the PP so having both is good. DeAngelo and whatever RD would replace him are not going to be remotely interchangeable.

And how has his 5v5 offense been this season?

That does not explain how he has gotten better each year

Under Quinn I suppose you mean.

Hell, some player with thrive under some coaches others don't. You answered that to a wrongly generalized statement: "DQ had no success with Canadien or Euro players". Some of Buch's development can be attributed to Quinn, other parts to him becoming a core guy and some other part to a player developing himself.

We can probably come to the conclusion that DQ had a positive effect on Buchy ... but that's that, and it's not saying much more. Buchy witnessed one year of AV.

I'm a big believer in transition, as a dynamic, and dynamic is what keeps the world going. Some said it earlier here on the board, I saw it at work, that they like to see regular head coaching changes. I absolutely agree. Things grow stale and the dynamic is lost. Idk if the comparison is acceptable but look at Germany with Jogi Löv f. ex. waaay too long the coach.

that is true, with Couts, Hayes, and Patrick down the middle where does Frost fit? Also I know they have Ghostbear but he seems out of favor and Provorov is not a real PPQB. Seems like a good match unfortunately these 2 teams are rivals so a trade like that is highly unlikely.

I believe they denied Buffalo and Minnesota.

He was allowed to speak to Florida, but withdraw from consideration. Friedman mentioned he was their first choice. He's clearly someone the rest of the league thinks highly of.

But how is his 5v5 offense this season? Could it be that he is being demoted due to lack of production rather than spreading the wealth?

I don't understand. Demoted where? 5v5 offense and 5v4 offense are not that correlated. There are a lot of good 5v4 players who are not good players at 5v5. His offense has not been there in four games. It is also irrelevant because it is four games.
