Howden played with Kreider and Buch during camp and looked decent right?

I know it doesnt mean much because who knows wtf we were doing during camp but...

LemieuxBlackwell-Rooney/Gauthier.

The bolded is a really interesting and potentially good idea, depending on PDG's comfort on the right. Seems like he could be a pretty good balance for his linemates.

I think Howden would help the top6 tbh.

He is willing to grind it out and he's looked much quicker. Ironically, Quinn uses him less when he looks good.

Thats why he looks good though.

Limited use Howden= Good Howden.

Overused Howden= Bad Howden. It's similar to the way Brian Boyle was used here. When he was used as a top 9 forward who got PP time, he was over matched and got flamed on here.

4th line Center with just PK duties? He was beloved.

Howden is going to get thrown to the wolves out of necessity. I hope that he can just meerly exist on a top line with out dragging it down. I'll call that a win.

What coaches are available? I can see Gallant going to another expansion team. Montgomery is getting back on his feet in St Louis.

We should try ADA at Center.....doesnt matter if he can win a faceoff (none of our centers can anyways),,,,let him freewheel like Hughes....and he could use his skills to set up his wingers. Maybe even playing a chippy game all over the ice without him getting exposed in his defensive deficiencies.

Babcock would be a horrendous hire.

boudreau would be worse. Hitchcock is retired now I think.

I’d rather just give the job to Martin than hire any of those three.

I wouldn't mind Babcock

He was replying to me where I anticipated Gallant going to another expansion team

Babcock seems like a natural choice, but he's still suck in the old days of the NHL. He shouldn't be a HC in the year 2021. He's a major pain in the ass.

BTW, I'm only listing guys who are not currently head coaches or assistant coaches:

Other ones: Guy Boucher, Randy Carlyle, Darryl Sutter

Hitchcock has come out of retirement a few times, no? He wouldn't be terrible, but I agree about Babcock and Boudreau.

Really Gallant only interests me as a guy who can step in this season and take over for Quinn. MAYBE Sutter.

Think eventually we will scrap the idea of having a top 6 and aim for a top 9 instead.

Svechnikov plays on the “3rd” for Carolina.

I also think Howden could help.

Is there any world where a retained Ryan Johansen makes sense for the Rangers? First off, I know he had a bad year last year...but the dude definitely has the talent of a 2C an he's 28. Could probably be attained for minimal assets from the Preds. The cap retention would get tricky as he has several years left, but if the Rangers AAV came to around 6MM, maybe it's a decent option? Or is this guy just too far gone? I know he's had a fair amount of injuries.

No, wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.

Hey Boys and Girls. Nice place you have here. From what I can see the Rangers don't need a new coach. They need a captain. Somebody needs to strap 'em on and get it done. It should be Quinn's job to press one of the guys into action. He knows who to select better than I do. It's time.

Since our in-the-know people have been hinting that NYR are worried about going long term for Zibanejad- I think if the team makes a blockbuster move for a center they'll likely be 25 or under in age.

The current NYR regime has been super moneyball lately regarding moving older players out for assets rather than signing them long term (Kreider being the biggest notable exception). I think they are taking age a lot more seriously now and trying to keep the roster consistently young.

Welcome to the madhouse!

I disagree with this premise entirely though. If they can't collectively strap em on and get it done, then does anyone really deserve the distinction of being captain? Slapping a C on someones chest isn't going to get people to follow them.

Strome + lottery protected 1 in 2022 ( becomes unprotected in 2023). May need a small add or replace 1st with ADA ? for RyJo. He’s signed thru 25 so we may need compensation for that. Hopefully he and Bread got along well
