I don’t understand why they scratched Kreider. Has he been good? Absolutely not. But he also hasn’t been one of the big problems.

The three main issues are:

1. Horrible group of defensemen
2. A system with absolutely no structure
3. Our 1C is a giant Whoopi cushion

Scratching or trading Kreider won’t fix any of these issues.

So keeping him makes sense?

He deflects pucks and occasionally scores on breakaways. In all my years as a ranger fan i've never seen a key player, do so little to affect the outcome of a game for his team.

Mika is at least missing open nets and passing the puck from behind the net to players that aren't there...

I started watching this club around 1984, and I've all but stopped watching this trainwreck. It starts from the top: Dolan is literal garbage and only hires people whom he assumes will do whatever he says. We've not managed to get an elite coach in ages, and I'd wager it's because no one wants to work for this franchise. I honestly though we had a real chance when they brought J.D. in, but they managed to f*** that up royally.

You then have the "core" of guys like Panarin, Kreider, Mika, etc that I have just come to loathe. They all play like petulant children. The second the game stops going their way, they roll over and die and then whine about it in the pressers.

I'll be glad when not one of this old group remains. Trade the f***ing lot of them. Shit, if the right price gets named for Fox, ship his ass out too. This club needs a totally fresh rebuild. Build from the back on up.

tldr: Trade Kreider while he still has some kind of value.

Dude has been money in the playoffs for a decade or so.

But considering where the team is, I think they could fetch a hefty return from a contender because of his playoff impact.

At the end of the day, Kreider is a finisher without a play driver to help him if he stays.

Whether he stays or gets traded, he's not even going to play another playoff game as a NY Ranger. That's the reality. So, even as a huge Kreider fan, I do think it's time to cash out on him.

They waited too long on him for a trade of value . MAYBE next year if he has a good stretch before the trade deadline we might get a good prospect or a first rounder.....but that is a HUGE risk for a trading club . We shall see....

As much as I do love Chris Kreider, we’re not 5 years removed from Hank being bought out. If we’re ignoring sentimentality to win a championship then Kreider should not be immune.

As someone that was okay with trading him in 2019, I’m thankful they signed him to a really good contract and got the best years of his career out of it.

They're too close to the wild card race. I guess a week can change that, but they hold the lead with regulation wins should they end up in a tied position for that spot. I think Kreider is staying for the season.

I think we would trade CK fast if we could get a good return. I think the lack of return is the issue not the playoff race. I say that for multiple reasons.

1. CK playing hurt has not really impacted the team in a positive way often in the last 2 months.

2. I believe we have had CK available for months and probably only got really poor offers so Drury has said no.

His value will probably be higher at the draft table, but agree they need to move on.

Best thing for the Rangers if he isnt moved at the deadline is he comes back and actually looks decent, scores a few EVGs & PPGs and the season ends.

If that deal isn't there right now and his back is at all still an issue I'd think about shutting him down for the rest of the year. Let him come back in the fall as healthy as possible and see if he can get his play back up. He scored 39 last year with 70 points on a $6.5 mil contract and that's really good. He's only got 17 this year but he's going at a 25 goal pace anyway and that's a not a killer for that contract either if we're hanging on to him until next season or whatever.

I'm not against moving him but when people say a 2nd or a 3rd and maybe a B level prospect f*** that. I'd rather take the chance he rebounds next year. He might end up rebounding for his new team while we're stuck with some half assed shit. Chris has had really good playoff numbers---24 goals in the last 43 games. There can't be more than 2/3 players in the entire NHL who can match that the last 3 years. I'd want a good for real young player or a really good draft pick as a return anyway....not just something throwaway.

And with a bad back and all he is still one of our best skaters if not the best. At some point sooner or later I can see him ending his career elsewhere but when all is said and done he will rank among the all time great Rangers. I get discussing trading him what I don't get is the complete disdain and hatred some show. When the day comes down the road and they honor him in some fashion, all you so called fans that reek of hatred should take the night off and not participate.

Shut Fox down, he’s been playing banged up and not had adequate rest and therefore is not the star we need him to be. Ask Panarin to waive for contenders - see who is interested, retain half and get a decently nice package back. Let Otthman, Berard finish the year with the big club. Move Lindgren and Smith and Vesey at the deadline if you can. Give cups of coffee to other kids in the org, even if they’re not likely to be up full time in the future. Don’t worry about the playoffs. Draft 8th OA or something, and come back next year with whatever you got for Panarin plus a HEALTHY Kreider and Fox.

You can still choose to move Kreider next year if nothing really changes, but Panarin and Lindgren out (after Trouba, Goodrow, Chytil and Kakko) is going to at least instigate some culture change. If Kreider still has to go, let him recover his value by playing healthy and showing teams he’s healed and a valuable veteran goal front presence for a Cup run. Heck, let him go get a Cup. We’re stuck with Mika unless something presents itself in the off-season. I’d entertain any deals involving Laf or KAM, but realistically NOT moving Kreider this year when teams will be wary of paying for a broken player isn’t the worst thing IF (and this is the crux) you shut him down for the year. Shut Kreider and Fox down. Just f***ing call it. It’s a lost year. Play for pride, let kids get some minutes, move what expiring contracts you can. Panarin is the only one who has another year left that’s worth exploring a trade for - 2 years at 5.8M has to be attractive. Let Fox and Kreider recover. Shit, I don’t even care if they don’t end up moving Lindgren and Vesey because the returns are so paltry, just don’t re-sign them. But just pull the plug on the hurt guys and face the music for this year. Come back ready next year. Work on a deal to move Bread. That’s it.

But i have never been a huge fan of his, and think some people completely overrate him bc this org cant actually develop a star forward.

He is a 2nd line forward who had a few great seasons and some great playoff moments. However, he also is a player that either has a great game or is completely and utterly invisible otherwise. Im just not a fan of feast or famine players like him. And i think that his non captaincy also shows a lack of leadership.

Just not the type of guy i would honor or a jersey i would want retired. He is nowhere close as good as those whose numbers are already retired.

The point in moving Panarin is, if he’ll waive for contending teams, he has 2 full playoff runs left on his contract and 100 point players for 5.8M simply don’t exist for most contending teams. He ought to be able to return a significant package. By contrast, Kreider is older, having a bad year and publicly acknowledged he is injured. His value is lower than ever so why not put him on the shelf for what’s left of this season (since Fox is now out too, so really… are we going anywhere? We’re not even in a WC spot) and let him get healthy. He either rebounds and is better for us next year or recovers his value for us to get something in a trade next year.
