Shesterkin is going to be 26. I don't think it's at all unreasonable to draft a blue chip 18 year old goalie prospect, especially in what's looking to be a pretty weak draft.
I would have no problem with a Wallstedt pick but they would need to stop picking goalies for at least five years afterwards.
Favorite player in the draft is still Beniers though.

We need Centers and lots of 'em. It's by far our weakest position in the farm.
A center drafted this year isn't going to make a difference for another 3 to 5 years best case scenario. The team needs help now.

Center help is going to come via trade in dealing from a position of strength (defense or wing).

Hypothetically speaking, if we were to flip Zibanejad in a Brassard-like deal, who are some C that fit the mold of Senators' Zibanejad?
Pierre Luc Dubois :sarcasm:

Seriously, Cody Glass, Morgan Frost, Kotkaniemi, and Barrett Hayton are names that come to mind for me.

a lot of chirping before and at the deadline for the reasons above. Lot of spirited debate. The rebuild, the cap, etc. He and others should be playing better regardless.

yeah i remember.

It was the right call not to trade him, bc it would have been an awful message to the team who was on fire.

however, giving him that contract with that term was an awful idea. They would have been better to let him hit UFA. Letting him go for nothing is better than this brick of a contract

I'd have to go and watch those 10 games and the quality of what was being thrown at him. The Rangers, this year, have actually been defending pretty well. Two of those goals last night didn't look great and, honestly, he doesn't look sure of himself.

I'd agree with your sentiment, however, that it's far to early to plan on drafting another goalie or bailing on Igor in any way, shape, or form.

Shots don't tell the full story but quite a few of those games they didn't allow many shots. He had one game where he made 16 saves on 22 shots. I remember the winning goal coming late that was on a fluky bounce, but I don't think anyone would be happy giving up 6 goals on 22 shots for Igor regardless. That's the equivalent of him being 0 for 3 on the 3 more shots.

Not necessarily. A C like Beniers or Kent Johnson potentially could contribute right away.

The farm system has no C to speak of. Henriksson? Vierling? We need at least one blue chipper.

Taking a G in the first round is questionable as it is. Couple that with the desperate need for a C and the fact that we don't have a second round pick and IDK, I just wouldn't do it.

Where is Beniers projected to go in the draft? I feel like we'll like be in the 8-10 range this year.

lol, yup and those proposing to stick with the rebuild were and still are accused of being “haters”. Kredier’s style doesn’t include a rocket shot so i was concerned. He’s like a big version of Hagelin with better hands yet he doesn’t have the big shot like Panarin.

Either way, it was debatable. The lottery really changed things for the cap future. Thankfully, the contract isn’t as damaging as Staal’s b/c he can be moved. Would be nice for better productivity today though. That and why the recently resigned Veteran, who has playoff experience hasn’t broken down the door and demanded the Captain C is beyond me.

kreider is the most polarizing player on this team for actual hockey reasons. I get why some love him, but i cant stand him. He just takes too many games off for me.

he always has been the player that either dominates or is completely invisible. There is no middle ground with him.

And i wanted to keep the rebuild going, however, u cant do that to a team who fought so hard to get into playoff contention. Thats just sends a bad message to the players. It was the right call to keep him last year.

it was the worst call to give a player like him that deal. And no i do not think he is tradeable and his contract is every bit bad as Staal, callahan, girardi, shattenkirk etc.

Hagelin skates hard every shift, if Kreider did that there'd be no problem.

so often that 3rd or contract entering the 30’s in the worst. I wanted to stick with the rebuild. Cap isn’t the real problem this year. We will see down the road.

Especially for players who rely on speed and physical attributes rather than finesse or smarts. Its why i think panarin will age well, whereas kreider is gonna fall off a mt everest.

which brings up the next debate. What will happen to Zibby. It think he might age better than Kreider, especially since speed is not his game. His shot is his game.

but his injury history is a big red flag.

I figured one or neither would be resigned after signing Panarin and Trouba.

The Kredier signing was before winning the lottery so i’m thinking Zibby is gone b/c both Laf and Kappo will likely command a lot. Fox looks good and obviously Miller. What to do with Buch?

Meanwhile, I can see multiple young players being moved out for a center come next season followed by Zibby walking. The roster is what it us for this year which, honestly, should play better than they’ve demonstrated this year.

The problem with flipping Zibanejad similar to how they did it with Brassard is they would need to do it like now

Brassard had three years left on his deal when he got moved, Zibanejad has 1.5 left.

Who’s trading their stud center for 1 year of Mika who would absolutely go UFA cause he’s going to get paid? Probably no one.

Best case would be the Avs or Knights willing to move Newhook / Krebs / Glass for Mika as a rental.
