Love the idea of Miller with Trouba.

BUT — from day 1?? Oooooooh playing that role takes something completely else than “just” being a regular NHLer. A lot of wear and tear. Heavy duty. Have to play really banged up for long stretches (most likely).

Just saying, that is one big challenge. I am not against it really, just saying that I don’t think many NHL coaches even would have considered putting a rookie in a role like that. Even for a really really good young D it usually take several years in the NHL before you are ready for bigger harder minutes. Often up towards 26-27 y ears of age.. Many can do great getting sheltered and easier minutes. But that role is the opposite of that.

This isn't really true anymore.

But yeah, giving him top 4 minutes off the bat is a giant leap off faith.

Pumped that Miller made the team. I had been a little nervous the few times I've seen him but it sounds like he made some big advances this offseason. Trouba seems like an ideal partner who can take some pressure off him too.

I don't think Miller will be getting quite the heavy minutes you'd normally expect out of that pairing...in that I dont' think he's going to PK and Fox and Lindgren will be handling some of those heavy minutes as well

That Kreider goal is a set play. Beautiful little snippet there. In basketball, in a half-court offense, those same routes are run to generate a clean easy shot. The Rangers have the point personnel to run high-screen and rolls. Good to see the boys pull that off.

You confused him with all of the other Swedish Ryans?

People think Barkov is Russian, Khodorenko is Belorussian/Ukrainian, Lambert is Canadian, Virtanen is Finnish and Wahlstrom is Swedish.

Then you have Burakovsky who has a Russian dad, was born in Austria but represents Sweden. Hockey kids really are children of the earth, and not really bound to the country of their heritage

Virtanen is a funny one because his actual name is Jacob Virtanen, which just adds to the confusion. Doesn't sound Canadian at all

At least Barkov has both a Russian first and last name.

and Georgiev...born in Bulgaria, raised in Russia, played most of his grown up hockey in Finland and the NHL...

I actually hope we pick up Filip Chlapik on waivers. He has some skill but also is pretty sound defensively and plays with a bit of an edge now. Plays wing and center. He’s 23 and could be a late bloomer but can also be an effective bottom-six player, unlike a lot of guys who are either going to succeed in a scoring role or not really fit. I’d definitely throw him on a line with Lemieux and Howden or let him see what he can do with Chytil and Laf if Gauthier isn’t cutting the mustard. It’s a free young guy who has upside, versatility and makes a minimal salary and can be buried or waived if it doesn’t work out.

Hasn’t broken through at the NHL level yet but has 11 points 91 hits and 29 blocks in 56 NHL games. Decent size, and as much as there is “ample” opportunity in Ottawa, they have basically had a rotating door of auditions without letting many guys stick and the team is pretty terrible. Playing 8 minutes a night on a really bad team’s really bad 4th line isn’t exactly going to give you a chance to blow the doors off. I wouldn’t give anything up for him, but we kind of have a hole in the bottom six and he could find a fit.
