Doubt it. Historically he’s been a great locker room guy.

i agree. def due to age and contract. he seems like a good team guy from his Rangers days. I wish they kept him. he was always underrated in my opinion. good top 4 dman.

Just wondering why Smith wouldn’t get waived if he’s starting as the 7th D? He will clear easy and saves cap space

Me too edge

Miller-Trouba
Lindgren-Fox
Robertson-ADA

completely changes the dynamic of this team. Miller and Robertson add size and mobility and help maximize their partners qualities. That could be a fantastic young D that grows together moving forward with shesty between the pipes
Need to make room for Schnieder. Seriously, I know I sound like a broken record, but I do not see Gorton and JD building a team that has two smallish puck movers on one side. Substitute Schneider for DeAngelo, and that comes closer to what I think will happen.

Now again, if DeAngelo goes out and paces 70+ this year AND can improve his defense to simply mediocre, then the equation may need to be revisited.

Kylington is better depth from a personnel standpoint than is JJ or Smith.
Every defenseman in the league is better than them, the team clearly values whatever Johnson and Smith brings to the team though so it’s not even worth talking about :dunno:

I agree. If everything worked out internally, my ideal long term defense would actually be:

Miller - Trouba
Lindgren - Fox
Reunnanen - Schneider

Reunnanen plays a pretty even keel, rounded game and can move the puck. Unfortunately it’s looking less like he’s going to make an impact at the NHL level. Schneider has more edge and the physical element. Fox and Lindgren is proven to work well together and compliment each other’s games well. Miller feels like a logical fit to compliment Trouba long term and that’s an imposing line with physical gifts and combined offensive potential.

Florida trying to trade Yandle, wonder if there's some locker room issues with the guy.

The average NHL team will lose at least about 30m USD this season. Given that some teams still should be very profitable, I can only imagine what the bottom line will be for a team like Florida. They have all the costs to run the organization and the salary costs for the team. How much income will they have? Were is that money coming from? The TV deal won't pay them much at all. Their local TV deal must be a joke, what do they have, like 15k viewers. Commercials on the boards? I have no clue, 15-20m in revenues? 75million in costs? Its a lot of money.

I am fairly certain that many teams would like to unload plenty of solid players right now, but that there just is no market for it. How many teams have (a) cap space and (b) are willing to assume additional financial commitments right now? Its not 5. Maybe 3? LAK maybe?

If a better team gets like an opening under LTIR if a well paid player goes down for the season -- I wouldn't at all be surprised if they could fill that position just taking a contract of a good player from one of several teams looking to cut costs.

My point is just -- evaluating things this year should be made in the context of many many organizations bleeding a ton of money.

If true then DeAngelo needs to be under consideration to be moved as soon as this deadline if it could bring back a young-ish 1C type or the assets to otherwise acquire one. Maybe not Zegras as he seems to be untouchable but someone more of the Newhook-level of stock. Someone like Lundell perhaps.

Since the hypothesis is that current-value/current-skillset ADA simply does not fit the long term design of the team (needs more size and grit at RD despite Trouba's presence), his subtraction from the third pair should and addition of high-end future assets in return should not be held up by a misplaced desire to squeeze every last win out of a surely short-lived playoff run this season.
