Kylington would be an interesting claim. Thought he might be a name that popped up when Hayes to Calgary was rumored. Not sure where he fits in though.
At this point he’s not a fit. He’s better than Smith/Johnson but frankly who isn’t.

I like Kylington but he needs a defensive minded partner and really none of our RD are that

I am going to choose to believe K’Andre forced the issue and that is a positive.

It tells you how much faith they have in ADA defensively when a kid who hasn't played a game in the NHL steals his spot after one scrimmage.

As I said, I am focusing on the positives. Miller. Trouba gets too play with a natural LHD too in this scenario. No changing positions to accommodate people. No changing roles. This is by far a better outcome for the Rangers if this works out.

Roles wise, I see Rooney making the team for PK purposes. JJ and Smith are redundant in that aspect.

We lost a rock of a player like Fast and did not replace his strengths

Maybe it's just me but seeing this reminds me of the Browns - Steelers game yesterday

So weird, they made a huge deal about him shifting to LD to pair with Trouba. That lasted like.... 1 day? Wtf

i lean toward that switch has more to do with miller emerging as an option this soon, then anything against ADA on the left since they never really liked option in the first place.

Another surprising name on the waiver wire is Evgeny Svechnikov... 24-year-old right wing making <900k. He's had some solid seasons in the AHL, but he was called up to the absolute disaster that was the Red Wings the last two seasons. Injury issues crushed his momentum, including one in a crucial preseason for him, and there were just a lot of little things that compounded into a very difficult situation to produce in. I think he might be better than PDG. Might be worth taking a flyer on the kid.

He could be our next Marcel Hossa or FedFed. :sarcasm:

I think Kylington is one of those lefties that prefers the right side of the ice.

i think he still fits as a good cheap depth option that can play either side on the 3rd pair and also provides another potential option for exposure requirements...

I think it's more of a product of him playing his off side. With the speed of the game nowadays in the NHL it is very hard to do especially if you're gonna be on the first pairing with the oppositions best forwards coming at you. And it seems like between that and K'Andre showing some good stuff made the decision a little easier for the coaches.

Can he play a 4th line style? I'm just worried if he couldn't make the roster of probably one of the worst teams in hockey then would he contribute positively here?

Yep and we already witnessed ADA can perform overall pretty well dragging around a bad LHD. Didn't ADA put up pretty good 5 vs 5 numbers as well. He was a plus 12 last year on pretty much a non playoff team.

Yeah I mean if the team dealt ADA and was looking for someone to rotate with Smith on that freed up spot it might make some sense. Right now though I think the team is more interested in seeing what guys like Miller, Robertson, and Reunanen can do.

Though the exposure requirement angle isn't something I thought of. Could be a way of not having to rely on Bitetto.

Why are we waiving Bitetto? Don't we need to keep him (throughout the season and into the offseason--as well as have him ~5 games IIRC) for expansion purposes?

I thought so too. I'm sure the Rangers feel he won't get claimed.

Derrick Pouliot is the most intriguing option on waivers. Was a top-4 D in Vancouver in 17-18 and 18-19 (with very good results) before signing with the Blues and being banished to the AHL where he scored 39 in 58. Only a $700k cap hit. Low risk pickup that has a high likelihood of being a better option at 3LD than Smith or Johnson.
We should claim either him or Holden. Holden would take some cap maneuvering but he's a huge upgrade over Johnson and Smith.

most waived guys don't get claimed, and vets need be waived to be assigned to taxi squad
they should waive all of Rooney, PDG, Smith, Johnson tomorrow (just my opinion)

yes NYR will need to get Bitetto, or Hajek, enough games to be the "exposed-to-Seattle D with enough games played"

there has been speculation of the thresholds being pro-rated
- from 70 over 2 seasons to ~54 [ 70*(70+56)/164=53.78] ] or
- From 40 for this season to ~27 [ 40*56/82=27.31]
BUT that is not yet formally announced,
so Bitetto may need 19 more games (51 last season) or Hajek will need 40
