Keenan thought Gartner was soft, along with the other guys they traded away that year, that you don't win in the playoffs with that type of player. I didn't love the Anderson addition; I liked Noonan and Matteau. As a long time Ranger, was disappointed to see Patrick go. Long term, losing Amonte stung. In retrospect, those trades worked out as they won the Cup that year, and that what we all wanted to see.
The Lamar trade was a big win and a necessity. The other trades may have made the Stanley cup run more difficult than it needed to be and destroyed the system. I hope Gorton understands this.

Retaining half on the upper limit of what Strome could receive in arbitration is more than what we offered to Fast and more than we are rumored to have offered to Granlund.

I don’t think FO is comfortable with the prospect of a $5 million Strome even for just one season, and I know they aren’t comfortable carrying $2.5 in dead space when it can easily be avoided. As much as they may be willing to walk from a $5 million Strome, I think they'd prefer that to a $4 million Strome that they can't walk from.

Strome is not the asset you think he is.

Where did i explain what kind of asset he is? Also rumors are rumors, even if we did offer Granlund that, where is he? He isn’t here because he must have rejected it if the rumor was true.

The point is, if they're only willing to allocate around 2.5 million for Granlund or Fast, and are comfortable not getting either if it would cost more, then no I don't think that carrying 2.5 *additional* dead space from signing Strome and flipping him at 50% is an acceptable course of action for FO.

That's a tactic youre only going to see HF Boards Roster Building Thread GMs take.

Is NHL 21 worth it this year? I stopped buying NHL games since I think NHL 14 or 15. I feel like maybe it's been long enough that it would feel "new".

Depends on what you want from a game. If you want a realistic simulation, temper expectations. It's the same game it was in 2015. If you like the arcade stuff like CHEL etc, then you will have fun playing this game

Not true...i think they tried to bargain bin a replacement for Strome and couldn't. The problem now is that if you let him walk for nothing after us getting a taste of playoffs, and Chytil doesnt bring out the best of Panarin then we are in a serious jam and taking a step back for a mill or 2 in a crucial season could be a serious issue. Generally the arbitration deals are for a year or two and since this is player selected the Rangers have the option of 1 or 2, so there's no issue of dead cap space if they make it a 1 year deal.

The problem with the Granlund stuff is that everyone thinks hes gonna sign for pennies, if that were the case he'd be signed by now.

Lafrenière is not playing on the third line in 2 years he probably won’t this year and Buchnevich is not going to be resigned. Just can’t do it. Can’t pay him

Exactly what I think, too. Buchnevich and Strome. Didn't want to go in and remove parts in Rangersland (Kreider). It should go and assign him to RW. Focus should be on finding players for the third line that are as good and as cheap as possible in 21-22 and 22-23. LD will solidify with time and only lack a real ace there (for a contender).

Granlund, Haula and Soderberg aren't bargain bin replacements, they are clear improvements over someone who had a fluke year riding along with a Hart candidate. They are the best available FAs, and probably are holding multiple open offers, deferring a decision until closer to start of the season.

Yes they are and will be compensated as such which is why they won't sign for 3 mill a year, with the exception of Soderberg who isnt on my list of players id take over Strome.

Which is why he should traded. Yesterday.

Doesn’t make a lick of sense to keep him for this season, unless you actually would get more for him at the deadline than now.

He is giving Kakko and Kravtsov time to get ready so having him around is a good stop gap. I dont think Buch is here when we are a finished product.

Signing Strome for 1 year for say 4 mil is not the end of the world. Some of you guys are so over the top with this. He works well with Panarin so it is what it is until they find somebody better in a trade.

Chytil as a good 2c is probable, the issue is that if Zibanejad gets another concussion or two before his next deal, and even if he doesn't, do the Rangers wanna commit 6 or 7 years to him? Having another center in the system would possibly make that decision easier to take. I know we stole Zib but these types of deals dont come around too often, imo centers are like dmen, they are expensive and hard to trade for so drafting your own makes sense.

Bingo and if its 5 who cares its a short term solution. My issue is that we haven't drafted the center to take over for him, i mean Chytil looks alrighr but after that its pretty bleak.

If the plan is to move Kreider to the right side, then yeah I'm much more on board with moving Buchnevich for a C or LD
