Jumbo is not a 2nd line center anymore. He slows the game down and controls the play. I'm not sure how that mixes with high speed Kreider. I'd love if we could get us a center who can PK as well. Stat wise in PPGA/60, Strome was actually our best forward. Scary.
I don't care about line numbering. My fault.

Really bummed Nieto signed for so little with San Jose.

It's like dude they waived you and you're from SoCal not NoCal and after agent fees and cost of living some AHLers will actually make comparable salaries. San Jose is like White Plains but fuel and taxes are no joke in NoCal.

I keep thinking the Rangers could have done better but then as like Edge said, it could have been a preference.

Yeah I enjoyed it more than I expected to without being into all that. Good food around, cool quirky small businesses once you get out of the downtown, lots of interesting folks. I don’t think it’s a terrible city or anything like that, but if you have a choice of anywhere it’s a surprising choice imo - so much of the downtown is consumed with the tourist and casino stuff, a lot moreso than other cities imo

It took me three trips to actually enjoy being in that city over 17 years.

The first time was a family trip in the 90s and it stunk. Other than the Star Trek exhibit I was bored to tears.

I went again for a college trip in the early 2000s. That was when the Ducks and Devils were playing in the finals. In hindsight it was a terrible decision to go because it was with a lot of g/fs and my more player friends. I was in bad shape then and definitely behind that group in terms of game so other than a visit to a pawn shop where I picked up some used CDs and a few meals, I hated it.

I was at a bachelor party in 2013 during that short NHL season. That was a good time because I had a little more life experience, was in better shape, and had some game. Enjoyed my time then.

Idk, I'm not really high on Libor anymore. I feel like Lindgren is what Hajek was supposed to be, just maybe not as much bite. A modern day defensive-defenseman, reliable in his own zone, physical, skates well and can make some decent passes. Truthfully, I don't think any of those things have translated well for him at all. He's still young, next season is a fresh year but he's gonna have to bring it cuz so far it's been pretty ugly.

Lindgren vs Hajek debate got fairly intense here when they were both shiny new toys. Lots of posters bantering back and forth about who would be the better prospect. So far team Lindgren has a healthy lead. Lots of time left.

A lot of people were wrong about that one, and were so sure that Hajek would make the team sooner. I wouldn't be quick to count out Hajek or Rykov. They are young, they are developing.

So in summation this thread

Hajek's game from the CHL has not translated all that well to the pros. He has very good puck and skating skills but the offensive component of his game has disappeared. The Rangers I don't think were looking at him being solely a defensive defenseman. IMO he still has things to figure out.

On Schneider he's three years at most out and I think he could make it in half that time. His game is like a bigger, faster, meaner version of a younger Dan Girardi. Like Ryan Lindgren it's not a complicated kind of game. It's predicated on good defensive end zone play and moving the puck to forwards. He's already figured most of what his game is about out and he's consistent at it as a metronome.

As far as Lundkvist--I think if it weren't for the pandemic he was going to sign and come over and compete for a job right away this season. I don't know what's going to happen with all these RD's. I don't think Trouba or Fox are going anywhere. I do think DeAngelo's days are numbered though he might last another year +. I don't see the Rangers going with him for more than a two year term on his upcoming deal.

Hajek had an offensive game in the CHL? Somebody should tell Saskatoon and Regina. It's rare that defensemen with 0.5 PPG in the CHL are expected to produce any more than that at the NHL level. The Rangers didn't trade for Hajek expecting offense, they were hoping he'd be a shutdown defender. We're yet to see that at the NHL level but he's still young.

His last season in the WHL Libor put up 39 points in 58 games. He also scored 8 points for the Czech team at the WJC in 7 games.

In his two seasons of pro between Hartford and New York he has 14 points in 114 games. He was never going to really be an offensive D but he has good puck moving and passing skills. They have not computed to any kind of offense even at the AHL level. He should be doing better.

38 points in 58 games in the WHL is an NHLe of 17 points in 82 NHL games. He should be better at the AHL level agreed, but his points production has been roughly what was expected at the NHL level. Which leads me to believe that the Rangers wanted him for his defense, not his offense. I'd say his defense has been lacking behind expectations at the NHL level, while his offense has been more or less what was expected.

This next season is going to be a bit anxiety inducing. There are now so many young players on the roster and they all need to develop. That's A LOT of plates to keep in the air for the coaching staff. To me, simplifying the system and having the team play a bit more conservatively would be smart. I get that we have tons of offensive talent and we could get away with playing run and gun. But our D is in a real transition. And both in NY and HFD, how our young D progress is the most crucial building block to this season. We cannot let them all turn into Brady Skjei. If we do, it will be a real challenge to turn the corner. If Shesty plays calmly in net and the D learn and grow and play within a system and get the support they need from the forwards, then that's a foundation you can build on. I know a lot goes into that. I'm totally oversimplifying this. But I think the foundation and focus ought to be on developing our young defense. That's working with Foxy and ADA on their d coverage. It's simplifying the game for Hajek, Robertson, Reunanen and Miller. And having the Fs support them so they're not running around, lost in their own zone. And making sure our Fs are giving the D 5ft pass options as opposed to flying the zone. I really hope Jacques Martin can help Quinn tweak his system. It's been too loose.

Secondary to that, I'd like to see our young forwards continue to grow. I don't care if their offensive output collectively isn't huge. I don't care if 21 year old Filip Chytil doesn't turn into an offensive juggernaut yet. I want to see him become an all situations center. Someone they can put on the PK. I want Kakko to be a more effective all around player on the ice that can start having a positive impact in all zones. I want Howden to get stronger on his skates, win more battles on the boards and get better at draws. And I want Laf to feel confident that he can play his game in the NHL.

And by season's end, if just a few of those young D above have become reliable in their own zone and their first pass and Chytil, Kakko and Howden play more complete games - it'll set the team up really well going forward.

A guy like Colin Wilsson for a bargain bin contract under 900 k per would not be a bad idea. He would be a bit of a gamble considering his recent injury history. But... he also plays both C and wing and is still not that old (31 in 6 days). Is a certified NHLer though - with some character - that might offset losing Quickie a bit. 632 games, 286 points, decent size, PKer...outta the NYR preferred Northeast USA hockey schools and a BU alumni guy (seems to fit The Mighty Quinn’s preference in every which way). Could be an upgrade providing depth over our signed tweeners that does not break the camels cap back. I have heard that name thrown around a bit. He will likely go late, dirt cheap as the UFA situation looks now. Colorado looks like they have moved on when glancing at their current fwd roster...

Sorry guys but I was in Florida yesterday and gambled away (black instead of white-blue-red) Buchie, Howden, Gauthier, Kravtsov and defenders DeAngelo and Rykov and a few draft picks. Stamkos (the guy who betted against) looked five years younger coming out of the bubble.

ALL I got in return was Panarins drinking buddy (Kucherov) and Tampa Bay heavy headache Sergachev. MAN, were Tampa Bay GM relieved! And Cirelli and Cernak jumped from joy. Contracts! Contracts! Also let them (The GM there spoke only french and he didn't say his name and if he did I didn't understand what he said) do what they want with our non top 2 goalies (we might get Curtis McElhinney and his wife shopping for a few weekends) and unload Coburn or Schenn on our sorry asses if they wanted to.

[Clever Steve Urkel-style] - Does NOTHING with our cup run in 2021-22 which look like this:

Kreider - Chytil - UFA guy
Panarin - Zibanejad - Kucherov (the bear)
Lafreniere - Strome - Kakko
Lemieux - TBD - TBD

Sergachev - Trouba
Lindgren - Fox
Hajek - (Hot Shot via trade)

Shesterkin
Georgiev

And 18 month to prepare the playoffs roster

Now I have a problem. Tampa Bay mobsters want MORE for Kucherov and Serge! (In sleazy russian: "That's a very nice teddybear you're having there"). Those bastards don't know what cap space is with all the money flowing upwards I was thinking. And I'm not going out now, hidding with a view so to speak. I'm thinking YOU could take the heat and maybe make them happy. We take on a lot of salary and they complain. I say, Go out and buy a Bogosian or Kevorkian or two!

Bern?

Boring version

All the RFAs get one year deals.

Done

Exciting version

The Rangers potentially have like 10-12 players who are age 19-24 and depending on their improvement or not the team will end up in the playoffs or not, and many of them have a ton of potential.

oooh oooh oooh, now do the disaster scenario!
