Koivu to Columbus 1.5 1 year. How do we not make that move? And nobody tell me he chose Columbus over us because that isn’t happening. Ever.

But that’s exactly what happened.

I really am running out ways to tell some of you that these guys haven’t been linked the Rangers based on their preferences, not the Rangers.

Is Gorton paralyzed until he trades Strome or can he not sign a cheap C to prepare for moving or walking Strome? We know Strome was the last to get QOd and the first to be moved. I still think management believes a $2-$3 C can do what strome does with Bread. Hopefully Hall signing moves the market along

Yeah I don’t think he’s going to sign for that much or for that long but saying he dosen’t deserve over 2 million per is wrong
He might deserve more, but he doesn't have the leverage for it and there is other precedent to cite to that puts him close to 1.75. Non-starters are going to be taking the biggest cuts this year with all the looming financial and roster markers (covid, revenue from tickets and shorter season, expansion draft, etc.)

Yup. Losing a key forward (Fast) for peanuts. Signing Jack Johnson. Not addressing the LD or C positions at all. Strome is still here and they're going to lose him for nothing if the ruling goes the way it probably will. 13M in dead cap space (roughly 16+% of the cap). Train wreck. Their shitty buyouts have caught up with them and this year we're paying the piper.
Yep. Let it be a development year. Maybe the kids will blossom and we can make a run at a playoff spot. It should be fun, anyhow. No more buyouts. No more bad contracts. #HunkerDown2-0-2-1

Wouldn't surprise me if we walked away from Strome if he gets over 4.53 or whatever the number is.
If Strome got 4.75 we would walk away? And replace him with who ? Granlund? Not a Strome fan but would like to keep Chytil at 3c duties for next year. It's not gonna be easy trading ADA for a really good 2C

The UFA market wasnt one to dive too deep into this year anyway. Also, if they’re capable of giving JJ a contract who knows what other bs they could get into on the market. Improvements should be made through trade right now if possible.

I wonder how much of this has to do with COVID and NYC...

There are quite few guys who supposedly let it be known that they were not going to bigger cities this year - NY, Chicago, Boston, Philly, LA, etc.

Others wanted to be within striking distance of their offseason home, or family, or other connections.

It really is a weird ass climate right now.

Koivu was someone who adamant about not going to the East. Behind the scenes Chicago was also shot down because of its size.

Honestly him choosing Columbus really isn’t they surprising. He just spent how many years in Minnesota?

Yep. If there were any time ever to want to avoid NY, it’s now.

I don’t want to sign someone at this point just to sign them.

Some of these names are pretty much deciding between which broken or worn out toys want.

Yup, exactly.

We got worse defensively, worse PK'ing, and lost our best defensive forward. Not sure who is filling those shoes, but the answer isn't Jack Johnson.

And, I think we all take for granted how hard Fast works along the boards. Panarin & Co. are going to miss him.

Barring a decent Strome or ADA trade, this weekend has been a loss.

Maybe the trade returns a center and not a left d. Hence the JJ signing. Maybe both, like the speculated Calgary deal. They didn't make too much noise in free agency either.

It's salary arbitration, Jarry has 2.5M for next year in salary. I would guess something around that for Geo on a one year yet less given Jarry has slightly better stats and would be called a starter.
