Regardless of our current limitations, the Rangers I think have a really good plan. They know the types of players they want, they know the type of team they want, and I think they're working to execute that plan and are succeeding thus far. We have a very good prospect pool that can afford a couple of losses if we use them to get a player that's currently ready, and we currently have some incredible high end talent, like Panarin and Mika, and that only gets better with the addition of Lafreniere. Add on the potential rise of players already on the team like Kakko and Chytil and we have a very good foundation for a team. But how a team on paper looks very rarely translates to actual play. This is the key area right here. How we fill the holes in our team is crucial. You can sacrifice the cupboard for a big name player or give a lengthy, expensive contract to a FA, but that might not be the right move. You can try and trade one of your current players for pieces or keep him. It's incredibly frustrating as a fan, but as Bettman said, their goal is to start at the beginning of next year, so there's a lot of time to stew on what'll happen.
This is a really good time to be a Rangers fan. We didn't try and be too cute with the #1 pick and we drafted the best player in the draft and a player who projects to have the impact to change a franchise. Unlike most teams who pick 1st overall, we aren't an abysmal team. We really lucked the f*** out the last two seasons. While Kakko was not good last season, he started looking better and we saw glimpses of what he's capable of. Hopefully Laf can take the pressure off of him. I really like where we're at. I'm just incredibly impatient.
