LD more than 2C, IMO. If we keep Strome, he can fill the 2C spot. If not, Chytil gets bumped up. Not ideal maybe, but doable. Our left defense is sorely lacking. I don't see any way we go into the season with Smith, Lindgren, Hajek, Miller and Reunanen as our only LD options.

Yes. Agreed. I'm with both of you, but the argument that was made against bringing in a player of Laine's caliber is because we don't want to tie up cap space, which assumes some combination of Shesterkin, Fox, Lafreniere, Chytil, etc. will be taking up all of our cap space later. The point is, we don't know who will be worth the big money yet. Laine is only 22. He's young and worth the money now. We can get him now and pivot down the road when or if required. There would be no shortage of teams wanting to trade for him if he becomes the odd man out.

We are having a lot of discussion on this board about Monahan recently, and for me it's just not particularly close if I'm choosing between having cap tied up in Monahan or Laine. I'd rather stop gap 2C with Strome and see what Chytil does this year.

Agreed, we were fifth in the league in goals and we're adding Lafreniere. Kakko should also improve his output dramatically in the coming years. Offense is one of the aspects of this team that I'm least worried about.

It's hilarious people are okay trading for Laine and then having to give him a fat contract in a year but balk at trading for eichel bc he has a locked in contract already even though he fills a glaring hole on this team

They have to trade some sort of assets, either futures or something off their roster, which would then just create another hole. That team is trying to win it all.

They're a win-now team dead in the middle of their window, who's come close twice now. 2-3 years from now they're going to need to rebuild. I can totally see them dealing more prospects/picks.
