Dougie Hamilton was considered pretty disappointing for a while. That doesn't mean that Hanifin will figure it out, but sometimes it takes a while, particularly for defensemen. I haven't watched him enough to really know, but if management thinks he can be a good compliment to Trouba on a shutdown pair, I'll take their word for it.

Dougie was considered disappointing, while putting up 40+ points and playing average D. Hanifin putting up fewer points playing below average D. Hanifin is in no way a shut down D. As it is, Trouba has shown himself to be less than a shut down D.
As a Canes season ticket holder, I watched Noah every game and the kid is just underwhelming. He hasn't done anything in Calgary to distinguish himself I might take a shot at him if the price was low, but otherwise, there are better options.

Honestly, the biggest issue with Hanifin for me is simply the fact that Carolina moved on from him. They are a defenseman factory. If he couldn’t succeed there, that speaks volumes to me.

Staal's contract terms were debated for years. Brooks tried to get a handle on it by asking the agent and management. Even capfriendly had changes to the terms.

I saw one report that quoted Yzerman as saying Staal didn't waive for Detroit. Can't find it now but the article in the Post today has:

It's how you define NMC and NTC. In legal documents, such as a contract, if you have two terms that are going to be defined--> then they typically stand for two mututally exclusive components of said agreement.

What got confounded, is that the NTC was always considered to be under the NMC. Meaning, No-Move = No movement at all. What it really should say, is a No-Move, is a No-Waivers/No-Demotion clause. That allows you to keep the trade lever (Full, Partial) and the waivers, and demotion levers the same.

If I was a GM, I would make a "No-Move" conditional. You come into camp overweight... voided.... you don't come close to your production level.... voided. Players still get paid, but if they are going to be a vegetable, then they don't get in the way of a team competing. Just a financial mistake, and not a long-term hockey one.

Is cirelli really good... Or does he just play for a really good team.

Like namestnikov before him.

I feel like a lot of the cirelli hype is based on his teammates. Could be wrong tho, wouldn't be the first time.

I'm lukewarm on cirelli.

Cirelli does not play with Stamkos/Kucherov like Namestnikov did. His linemates are nothing special.

Jokes aside, Hanifin has been pretty disappointing.

It's a case of a kid being an NHL ready player at 17. Just physically mature at that age and could skate. CAR brought him in too early, and paid him too early. I look at him as the same player he was drafted as. A good 4-5 guy on a solid core.

I have zero interest in him. Milktoast mediocrity.

Ottawa inquired about Strome, and the Rangers are listening. Putting everything together, if the Rangers can complete a deal for a 2C, (which can be inferred through the continued discussions with Calgary about Lindholm), then they would move Strome, probably for a couple of picks.
Could also be part of the reason for the Staal trade.

Not quite. He plays #2C and gets all the tough assignments. Very important to Tampa.

Courtesy of @Edge. The Rangers and Flames have had a lot of discussions for a while now, and reportedly, both Lindholm and Hanifan have been asks from the Ranger side. (And they haven’t been rebuffed.). The Flames have expressed interest in Buchnevich, Hajek and Andersson.

Lindholm's contract is so good. Why would Calgary want to trade him? (Especially for Buch, Lias and Hajek)
