OK, here’s a little nugget I picked up today. If Tampa runs the table and wins the Cup, the solution to some of their cap woes may be looking to move Stamkos. Wow. I couldn’t make that up if I tried.

Sounds reasonable as they would have done that with out him.

I could see the rationale behind the thinking.

Makes sense

I agree with @TheBloodyNine it makes sense and I am really not at all surprised. Its something that crossed my mind a few games ago in this series when it was 2-0 Lightning. They are showing they can win without him. They can move him and be able to keep multiple players with that savings.

Now the question is, in a flat cap world the next 3 years and with his medical history who is taking him at his full salary?

Second question, would the Rangers be interested if TBL retained $2-$3 million? They have always liked him. But he is no spring chicken anymore. Would fans here want him with money retained?

Pass. Hasn't he been primarily a winger lately?

A great player, but pass.

No thank you for Stamkos at this point. We already have tons of weapons for the PP, and that is where Stamkos makes his money.

In fact, looking at Tampa's PP this series, they really could have used his shot. Dallas is going to be doing the same types of things the Islanders were.

I don't think he's getting moved. He's still a big part of the team in spite of them making the SCF without him. I think Killorn is the obvious player getting traded. They'll need another move on top of that, but Stamkos I don't think will be available, nor will he want to leave

Man... I know it would be expensive but and not a need but getting Matt Dumba would be a hell of an acquisition.

can he play the LD, unless

Strome and Buchnevich for Dumba and Greenway
DeAngelo for a center Max Domi ++ or Roslovic ++ from Jets or someone still young?

I dont think Martin is much of a concern to them.

But the rest of your post about them as merit. And more than just being in cap hell, they are an older group. A majority of their players are between 28-33 years old. A few are just outside of that at 25-26 such as Pulock and Toews. You absolutely want to keep them because they are in their prime and to try and keep the proverbial “window” open but they have just had two enduring playoff runs with this older group. So they’ll extend Pulock, Toews, and hopefully Barzal for their sake, but the window might shut quickly during the prime years of the contracts for those 3 because they will have to navigate turning over much of the older players.

Very challenging and something I think a lot Islanders fans turn a deaf ear too when you try to explain to them this was the year to do it because it is likely downhill from here. Sure they could make the playoffs next year or even the one after that, but there are teams getting better around them that are younger, up and coming.

I don’t want to count out the Islanders all together, but that was the feeling I got last night. I feel like the Rangers, Canucks, Hurricanes, and Avalanche are destined to dominate the league for the next few years too.

Add in teams with deep prospect pools and it just becomes difficult. The Islanders are closer to another retool or blowup then their fans realize.

If we don't win the lottery and get Kakko then I think Kravstov starts for us last season. There was no way Kakko was getting sent down with all of the hype and there was no reason to give VK 4th line minutes.
Kravstov showed next to nothing. I cannot see how he would have made the top-9

If Stamkos felt like pulling a St. Louis to force his way to us, you dont turn down a player thats still > PPG and is only making 8.5 million. Not to mention, fills our biggest hole. His 30 years are artificially long, but acquiring him would push our window to now. TB won't retain money on him, so it'd come down to how much salary we could move first and whether or not TB would treat the deal like a cap dump.

Honestly I’m in sell mode still. I’m scared to spend anymore money with what we have coming We have Alot of talent here already and coming. Mika Panarin Chytil Lafreniere Kakko Kravtsov Kreider Barron and yes Howden. We’ve got to be careful with future cap space.

Strome Buchnevich Fast Should go for futures and maybe even DeAngelo if you get me a LD back should go to at this point although we can wait On that for a perfect option as I’ve said, if of course we refuse to play him on the left side.

I think Chytil and Howden take big steps this year. Paying anyone big money to slot behind mika will bite us. We’re similar to Tampa in that regard with point and cirelli taking those steps. We are stacked at wing and with Kravtsov showing he’s taking a major leap we need roster spots. I would trade Buchy now maybe you get a first for him like J.T. Miller got . Strome for a 2nd rounder. Maybe you can bundle some picks to move up for a center you like. I just don’t want to spend money on a veteran center at this time.

Me coming in here to see where the Eichel speculations has gone and finding everyone ready to pull the trigger on Stamkos

Having a pure shooter and goal scorer would have won us a cup in the mid 2010s but that time has past and Stamkos has past too.

I'm all in on Greenway. I think he would provide the team another big bodied winger who can develop and add a different dynamic to the team. Also, I truly believe Kreider slides over to the right in the near future leaving that 3LW spot open.

If you start to build your team around guys like Kreider, Greenway, Kaako, Gauthier, Chytil, Zibanejad, Kravtsov, on top of guys like Panarin and Lafreniere, you have a forward group that not only is super skilled but also BIG and more difficult for the new age puck moving defensemen to handle.

I'd consider Andersson for Greenway if Minnesota wanted to add a young center to their prospect pool. They had GREAT luck with Mikko Koivu for years who was never swift of foot, perhaps they see Andersson ebing able to develop into a similar type player for them.

I'm assuming Buch or Strome are traded this off-season.

Panarin-Strome-Kaako
Lafreniere-Zib-Kreider
Greenway-Chytil-Gauthier
Lemieux-Howden-_______

I'd be down to watch a Martin-Howden/Barron-Lemieux line chip pucks in and work the defensemen like a baby back rib along the boards. Really need to establish a fourth line with identity that sets the tone on the forecheck and keeps zone time. Tampa has guys like Goodrow, Coleman, Maroon, Paquette, etc. What do we have in the bottom six? Lemieux? Brad Richardson is older but has experience and is a solid 4C.

I think I'd probably go for Kyle Clifford in lieu of Matt Martin
