I cannot emphasize how much better a player Brodin is than Dunn. If you can bring him in at 22OA+ a prospect outside the top 5, you do it and don’t look back. $6.5m x 5 years seems doable. He’s exactly what we need.
Yeah, I'm on the Brodin train too. UFA after next season and the Rangers can do a "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" kind of handshake agreement to extend him between the expansion draft and July 1st. He'll be cheaper to acquire too given contract term and age compared to Dunn.

Dunn is too much like what we have already. I hate to say the defense needs a Marc Staal like player, just not actually Marc Staal.

Obviously I don't know for sure but based on my experience in similar situations, this is probably a case of choosing their battles.

The team probably doesn't want Tony having a podcast, but he has one, and they don't want the blow back that comes from shutting him down completely. So they may just be dealing with it for now, and instead policing what he can and cannot talk about to an extent.

If anything his agent should be doing more policing, considering at the end of the day GMs in the league are old school and probably hate this shit
If the Rangers believed his social media presence or podcast had any tangibly negative impact on his value around the league, then they would have fought the battle. Sometimes, you're so good at what you do that you are granted a degree of latitude that others aren't.

I mean they probably don't wanna pick sides. Also, addressing it publicly affects his value.

Minnesota could get their top 6 ELC center with using #8 and #22. Plus We add Hajek. Just give us Brodin. ADA for Lindholm. Strome for J Andersson plus. see If theres a market for Lias and Georgiev. Dirt cheap UFAs Will be plentiful at the bargain bin auction
Strome for Anderson+ sounds like speculation but I would be down for that. 22 + Hajek for Brodin seems fair I guess. ADA for Lindholm would make me very happy. Recoup some picks with Georgie and Lias.

I mean i'm no fan of Pk's but you asked for an example and I gave you one...in the same sport, division, position...The fact you think he "picks fights with fans" is an absolute punchline. Have you ever seen the replies to his tweets? Guy could tweet about a meatball parm and have 15 unhinged lunatics with tweet notifications in his replies telling him to kill himself. BTW the org couldn't give less of a shit about his tweets or podcast, but they care a lot about the fact he just put up 53 in 68.

he did actually tell a fan to fight him in front of the Garden parking lot. I didn’t make that up. Imagine doing that in front of your office.

Potential slightly unpopular opinion incoming:

The styles in play are no where near as similar, but Chytil is a player that is most like Alexei Kovalev since he's been on the team. Again, there is no comparison stylistically, but in terms of seeing flashes of absolute brilliance, but always coming away wanting more.

Chytil is going to have to produce a lot more consistency to become a bonafide top 6 player instead of a tweener.

he literally just turned 21

We need to remain patient even if he goes out and puts up 30 points this year. Dude’s still raw as f***. I think 3 years is about right for Chytil to realize his potential.
Definitely, we're always saying how it takes longer for these bigger guys to hit their stride in the NHL, then we lose patience with the ones we have, and Chytil's a good example of that, maybe even too good because he started in the NHL so young, but he did take some pretty decent steps in his defensive game last year so things are starting to click a little more for him. I also think it should be noted that he had garbage to play with on his wings last season too (Kakko will definitely be a good player, but he wasn't an NHL lever player last year), if he gets to play with Laf for a bit early on that should go a decent way to helping him and our bottom six scoring issues out

I think for a young nhl center that isn’t like a franchise player like point or Matthews you gotta look at their 21 22 23 seasons and look for that consistency to develop or not. To say he’s not consistent as if it’s an issue I mean he’s a baby. If he were consistently dominating like he did on that rush at 20 we’d have a franchise superstar on our hands.

I’d say a big part of me still feels that we would regret blocking Chytil with a veteran 2C Even if it were a Danault or Lindholm.

we may be better off looking for a bargain 3C For now like bringing Brassard back.

even blocking Howden makes me nervous to a degree. These two kids are entering the next phase of their development

Speaking of Brassard, he too was our #3C and he ended up flourishing.

Nothing wrong with having three top-6 centers. Also as much as I like Chytil, w/r/t him being block, it feels...not particularly urgent at the moment. He still has a lot to prove.

I admittedly don't know a lot about Vince Dunn. The consensus on the STL board is that he hasn't gotten any better and he's terrible at defense. Does someone on here who has more knowledge of him have thoughts on the matter?
@Trxjw @Vladys Gumption

It's hard to say exactly what the Rangers would be getting out of Dunn, because a) he is actually quite sheltered in terms of matchups, zone starts, and ice-time, and b) he's played his whole career on an elite team (Trouba's stats took a hit here, Shattenkirk's stats skyrocketed when he left, etc.). His fancy stats seem similar to Fox's though.

Lol yes you did make it up. He was making a joke about the fact the fan is a nobody on the internet who would never say this to an NHL players face, the dude gets slandered incessantly by politically motivated losers on the internet 24/7 and him making a joke in response makes him the bad guy now

Stop spreading this BS on here, this is a hockey forum not a political forum or a players personal life gossip forum

I asked this earlier, but do we really think Chytil is a C long-term? I think he has winger written all over him. I don't think he's that noticeable defensively.
