Hey ya'll,

I wanted to get a better idea of where NYR is at atm.

What are their needs atm and are there any deals that the consensus seems to agree upon?
They need a 2C and some better LHD and they definitely need more forward depth, at the moment this board seems to be decently into the idea of a trade involving E. Lindholm for ADA/Buchnevich, and Dunn for the #22OA and an extra piece, or maybe something around Strome for Brodin

1 LD, top 6 power forward, 2C, Bottom six grinders.

The order of importance will vary depending on who you ask.

Thanks for the info.

Are there any big cap concerns? Any players that people expect to be traded, any that expect to stay, etc.

They seem to have a ton of promising young kids. Do you not think they will get a majority of the bottom 6 roles that are there. I was pretty curious how the fans feel about Strome and who in the bottom 6 is a core piece and who is likely not set to be a long term NYR.

Thanks for the feed back

What good does it do the NYR to talk about what an ass he is publicly? How does that help trade such a valuable asset? Brooks is convinced they want him moved. If that’s the case it has VERY little to do with Lundkvist.

Who trades a 60 pt 24 year old right shot dman?
If the Rangers trade him it's because they idiotically believe he's their 3rd best RD, and they won't move either he, Fox or Trouba to LD not because of his f***ing podcast or twitter spats.

The Rangers had bigger problems against Carolina. No one showed up. I’ll take my chances on the Hart finalist next season, especially if there isn’t another Corona break. What you don’t want is your Top Paid defender to have to play with trash all year again. We have seen this happen over and over again. It needs to stop.
It seemed pretty clear to me that our biggest problem was the flimsy and easily-overcome makeup of our forward lines.

Big concerns? No, but their not exactly swimming in space right now. They have a ton of space opening up after 20-21 so its not a long term issue.

The problem with having kids in the bottom six is their game isn't necessarily well rounded or mature or consistent enough to be able to count on them playing a specified role well. Strome has done well with what he's been asked to do, but I think he's too one dimensional and he really benefited from playing with Panarin. I guess you could say Kakko is the only one who was in the bottom six last year who you can expect to be a core piece, with Chytil closest behind him in that regard. I think they'd like to keep Lemieux and Gauthier for a while if they can up their games a bit, ditto with Howden but Howden's further behind Lemieux, and then McKegg and DiGuiseppe are pretty much NHL tweeners, DiGuiseppe is more of a star AHLer who got called up because the Rangers didn't really have any other options (they had Brendan Smith playing wing on the 4th line for a decent amount of the season)

If any non Rangers player who was currently in the NHL was publicly talking about the Rangers, and said anything that could be taken disparagingly, rightly or wrongly, the Rangers desire to have that player on their team would or would not change?

Of course it would change

it’s just completely inappropriate for a current player to be doing this. Whether I ignore it or not and clearly I have up till today when I listened for the first time. Doesn’t mean it’s not happening just because I didn’t listen to it. This kind of stuff hurts your value around the league PERIOD

I admittedly don't know a lot about Vince Dunn. The consensus on the STL board is that he hasn't gotten any better and he's terrible at defense. Does someone on here who has more knowledge of him have thoughts on the matter?

no one said they would public say something but they could privately tell him to cool it and he'd listen.
Obviously I don't know for sure but based on my experience in similar situations, this is probably a case of choosing their battles.

The team probably doesn't want Tony having a podcast, but he has one, and they don't want the blow back that comes from shutting him down completely. So they may just be dealing with it for now, and instead policing what he can and cannot talk about to an extent.

If anything his agent should be doing more policing, considering at the end of the day GMs in the league are old school and probably hate this shit

Where is the proof of this?

BTW, I just listened to the last episode, he didn't mention any specifics about any team and what they should be doing. Most of the nhl stuff he did was basically gushing over Barzal and talking about the advantage a team like Tampa has over a team like Toronto because of how they can get players signed for less because of no state tax and how he feels they'll probably add more muscle after watching the Bolts do it over the last year and have success with it. None of this is inflammatory, sensitive information or even remotely suggestive.

He didn't bring up the topic either, it was a question asked to him by another one of the hosts. Now he didn't have to answer, but he said nothing wrong.

It’s completely inappropriate. Is there another pro athlete doing commentary on the players and teams in the league he competes in?? Talking about who’s getting older who got fired who’s going to get dealt???

Yes. A lot of football players who are on as analysts. Brandon Marshall did it amongst others. This isn't rare.

PK Subban who keeps getting dealt because of his personality? Yes I’ve heard of him and he doesn’t do what tony does on this podcast

and if you think it’s JUST the podcast you’re wrong. It’s the twitter it’s the picking fights with fans it’s constant. I actually have written countless times I don’t want him dealt he’s too talented but he’s making it easy for the org to say enough with this kid and blow him out. He is a complete moron and this is just another log on the fire.
I mean i'm no fan of Pk's but you asked for an example and I gave you one...in the same sport, division, position...The fact you think he "picks fights with fans" is an absolute punchline. Have you ever seen the replies to his tweets? Guy could tweet about a meatball parm and have 15 unhinged lunatics with tweet notifications in his replies telling him to kill himself. BTW the org couldn't give less of a shit about his tweets or podcast, but they care a lot about the fact he just put up 53 in 68.

Do you think he's the only professional athlete that deals with this?

I cannot emphasize how much better a player Brodin is than Dunn. If you can bring him in at 22OA+ a prospect outside the top 5, you do it and don’t look back. $6.5m x 5 years seems doable. He’s exactly what we need.

Who would be more knowledgeable than the very fans that are entrenched in his entire career?

No grains of salt needed..

Potential slightly unpopular opinion incoming:

The styles in play are no where near as similar, but Chytil is a player that is most like Alexei Kovalev since he's been on the team. Again, there is no comparison stylistically, but in terms of seeing flashes of absolute brilliance, but always coming away wanting more.

Chytil is going to have to produce a lot more consistency to become a bonafide top 6 player instead of a tweener.

Who are we talking about?
