The reason you are not hearing about it is because LA and Ottawa have zero interest in trading a prospect like Byfield for a player like ADA. They, like literally everyone, would prefer Byfield or Stutzle, and there is not even a point in asking.

So are Byfield and Stutzle.

Same as with Byfield and Stutzle. They are Kakko-level and Hughes-level prospects.

Well, we also know - to a very close degree of certainty - that Byfield and Stutzle are also gonna be better than ADA.

Just like I know Kakko is worth way more than ADA as well.

Man, you are taking some huge leaps of faith and making some really grandoise assumptions here while seriously undervaluing what value ADA has.

Who was the last NYR D to score 53 points in a season (pro-rated to 64 over 82 games)?

Some of you forget the days where Girardi or Roszival lead our team's D in scoring lol.

He finished 4th in the league in D scoring. Other names in that group? Hedman, Hughes, Krug, Pietrangelo . And you don't think some teams out there wouldn't jump at the chance of him for a high draft pick?

How comfortable would a team like that be that they can keep ADA long-term? He got what 3 years to UFA, but the head aches starts a lot sooner with everyone knowing that the UFA deadline isn’t far off. Winnipeg has been through this with Trouba recently.

I am definitely concerned that only about 10 teams would feel comfortable that they could keep ADA more than a few years if they trade for him.

Aren't Laine and ADA in the same spot contract wise? Can't Laine walk himself to UFA as well after his current contract is up with 1 year deals?

If you could get Arizona to accept Smith’s contract in return, I could see it.

Dream scenario would be swapping Gogligoski for Staal with either the Rangers paying half Staal’s salary, and maybe adding a sweetener, such as Andersson.

I wouldn't even add Andersson if the Rangers agree to withhold some on Staal's salary. Cash and cap savings should be sufficient. Maybe a 6th or 7th rounder but nothing more valuable.

Goligoski has one year left @ 5. 4.

Could he be a target as a 1 year stop gap to improve the left side?
He had a relatively good season this year (his best since being in AZ) but he’s never been one of my favorites. Much more of an offensive than defensive player. If the Rangers wanted a one year defensive stopgap Nick Hjalmarsson would be the guy to get. Still a terrific defensive player.

Chytil has always had a better showing at center than wing. ALWAYS. Unless that doesn't fit one's agenda.
Yeah, I think he's made some big strides over the offseason and then even from the beginning of the season to the end of it. The points weren't consistent but they were there when he got to play with Buchnevich and Kreider instead of Kakko/Gauthier/Howden/Lemieux/DiGiuseppe

I seem to recall Pitt wanting to move Bjugstad last off season, and he had if fair share of injuries would a Smith/Bjugstad swap work out for both teams w/nyr retaining to equal out the cap hits?

The difference isn't much. I wouldn't retain anything. Pittsburgh would be saving a lot of real money. Bjugstad is owed 5.25 mil and Smith is owed 2.35 mil.

Smith's cap hit is 4.35 mil. Bjugstad's is 4.1 mil, but if we buy him out, it drops to 600k (1.75 mil the following year), saving us a total of 3.75 mil.

DeAngelo had 53 in a shortened season this year.

Last year only one Ranger had more than 52 points, period. The year prior 53 points led the team. The year prior 59 points led the team, with 4 players over 50. The year prior 61 led the team with 3 players over 50.

Forget defenseman... DeAngelo was on pace to have more points in a season than all but one Ranger has had the past four seasons.

I disagree
Chytil has played best at RW(He's never looked comfortable at LW)
When he played RW with kreider and howden it allowed him to do what he does best, be the puck carrier and line driver
He scored 5 goals and 5 games
He isnt a C
He can't win FOs or play sound defense
I love chytil as our future RW more than Buch or Krav
We have a great prospect Center that i think would be a great fit for Chytil
And that's Henrikson
He's good defensively and is more a complimentary player
I'd love for our third line in the future be Kreid Hen Chy
(Hen being an upgrade from How)

Sure, but does anyone have a memory of the last time a (Known) top 5 pick was dealt for a roster player?

Maybe I'm dumb but I can't even recall. Stepan for a 7th was big. Schneider for a 9th made big waves when it went down.

I dont think its happened in the salary cap era.

I’m really not interested in trading roster players for futures. Roster players, at this stage of things, should be traded to adjust the roster mixture. I mean, isn’t this what the mantra of everyone who clamors first BPA in every draft is? If you end up with extra players at one position, you trade them for players at a position you’re not as strong in. Granted, the RD issue didn’t come from drafts, but from trades. It’s the same thing though. RD is the position of strength for them to trade from.

I don’t have any problem holding onto DeAngelo for one more season, but if, as we suspect, the Rangers see Trouba and Fox as the top two, then they should be exploring trades now to do what I mentioned above. If they do keep him for another season, I’d like to see long-term experiments with him on the left.

Yeah, so again, I think irrespective of ADA's value and contribution, a flat out trade with Ottawa for a pick seems unlikely.

I'd say you're right.

Salary cap era I can only remember 3 trades into the top 10 -

Carter to CBJ (Philly aced this trade so hard)
J.Staal to CAR
Stepan, Raanta to ARZ

The draft pick involved in 2 of those 3 trades completely busted and it was the secondary pieces which ended up shifting those trades in the favor of the team offloading the more established player.

I think we'll see this happen this year (Buffalo) but it won't involve us.

Which brings me to another point - Philly should really be a cautionary tale for the Rangers. It took them a while for their young guys to start performing at a high(er?) level... And now their older core guys aren't what they once were. They should have either stripped it down even further, or pushed harder to add more to that team.

We're in a quasi similar situation where Panarin, Zibanejad and Kreider are in their late 20's and we're waiting on the younger guys to step up into more prominent roles. It doesn't have to happen right now, but they really shouldn't be gun shy about adding players at this point, even if they come at the expense of prospects that we would rather keep.

This means nothing.

They can still sign him when free agency starts. Very likely that they didn't want to commit anything to him right now before knowing whats going to happen with other players.

He may walk, but at the end of the day we're probably looking at a mid-late 2nd if he were moved. I'd like to have one in this draft, but its hardly the end of the world.

I think you're looking at something closer to like a 5th/6th rounder for his rights
