Still hoping the team kicks the tires on Jankowski. I think there's potential for him to be a really good bottom-six player. Shades of Brian Boyle in his game but I think he's more naturally gifted offensively and is a much, much better skater.

I like Jankowski. I’d love Bennett too but I believe Calgary wants overpayment for him, so I’d pass. Jankowski I’m sure can be had reasonably cheap and that’s the kind of depth worth taking a flyer on. Change of scenery couldn’t hurt.

Yeah I think Bennett is probably a guy who played his way into more time with Calgary. Jankowski is coming off a year where he didn't score until January and was a healthy scratch a few times in the playoffs. I think he could be had on the cheap.

He's one of those players that if he can find the consistency in his game, he's pretty versatile. Kills penalties, can play center or wing, can be a body in front of the net on the PP, and has a nice combination of size and speed. Having players that give coaches options is important as well.

If the Rangers are able to move Smith and/or buyout Staal (really both would need to go in any scenario) and they could not come away with top 4 LD via trade this offseason OR sign a guy like Dillon...thoughts on signing Chara to a short term 1 year deal? Stopgap move with a presence on the backend while we transition to our young LD in our system. Especially now with Jacques Martin in the fold. Again this is a “Option C or D” choice

I can't imagine why Chara would do that. At this point, I think he's either back with the Bruins or he retires.

Jankowski was legit trending towards 2nd line status before this season happened.

Which is another reason I'm interested. I think he's a good fit for this team in need of bottom six depth but there's also the potential that you get a little bit of a late bloomer on your hands. The odds aren't great but he has an intriguing set of tools. He's the sort of player a coach could throw out between Strome and Panarin on a night where they're struggling just to create some space on the ice for them, then out of nowhere you've got a "Huh, this sort of works" moment on your hands.

I agree. I think he’s a guy who could catch lightning in a bottle with a new opportunity, finding himself playing a game or two in that type of situation, while on the flip side, at worst really, he’s a lot like Howden but with more size.

What is the obsession with replacing Quinn? The organization likes him a lot of there is very little reason not to.

Frankly, I don't even understand half the reasoning. Captain baby blanket said he wants Frank Underwood running the team. Good analogy. Jesus christ.

Good analogy? I would say at least great. What do you say now?

I’ve not seen that series Modern Family before but I am watching it right now with the family. I bet 5 bucks on that the creator is a Ranger fan and have based those interview segments with Phil on DQs pressers.

The analogy is also very deep. I posed a question. Maybe we don’t want Frank Underwood running the team. Maybe an innocent Phil Dunphy is a good option to run this NHL team?

I'd much rather have Bennett than Jankowski. I was urging the Rangers to get him for 2 years. Now with his playoffs his value is probably up.

Saw an Eklund rumor saying Buffalo was going to go hard after Taylor Hall and had a 25% chance to get him, to which I say: LOL

Not really funny when yku consider a flat cap and Buffalo has a ton of cap space.

Top line minutes. Check

Play with an elite player. Check

Can get 70+ over 7 years. Check

Makes the team better. Check

Unless Hall is ready to sign for 7 per, his preferred locations are almost nill

Buffalo can afford him, for sure.

"… if anyone goes off the board to put themselves in a winning situation, it’ll be Taylor Hall. He’s been in a lot of losing situations & he’s tried of it, he’s made a lot of money in his career, winning is his #1 priority now."

That's not Buffalo.

(Edit) Sorry, quote is from Friedman

Exactly. If Hall goes to Buffalo then it is clearly about the money and not winning. Because how could you look at the team and think man that looks like a team on the cusp. They aren’t. Not even close. And when you lose and fail for so long it becomes part of your identity.

Hall has played 5 playoff games in a 10 year career not counting this year's "play in" games. That's miserable for a guy as talented as he is and it has to drive him crazy constantly playing for loser teams. I can't see him flushing his last big contract down the tubes in a place that's rebuilding. He's got to be sick of it.

Good point but I wouldnt even say they're rebuilding. Buffalo I mean. They just suck and are a holding place for Eichel until this years deadline. So Halls not going there at all.

I firmly believe if they are likely not making the playoffs by the deadline it wont be rumors, I think he will flat out say trade me now.
That'll be 10 years in a row with no playoffs. Not even 10 years of not winning a round. He was already frustrated the end of the season. One more year and ges out

Too bad we cant afford him with all the raises we have to give soon

I'm happy Sather isn't running the show here and I'm happy we aren't desperate for wingers as i don't exactly like Hall as a player for the money he would command, personally find him to be a selfish player(on ice not off), great speed, great shot, has a great tool kit but most times once he has the puck he's not looking for anyone until he has to. If I'm Hall, I do whatever it takes to get to Colorado, that's the place that will take the stink of loser off him.

Reuananen not loaned overseas right ? May get a legit shot to battle Hajek and vets for LD time ?

That's my guess. It won't be easy but I consider both Reunanen and Hajek as long-shots to be any more than a 3rd pairing D-man. Neither are a solution for the gap we have on the left. I hope one of them can prove me wrong

He's obviously not getting replaced right now. He also got embarrassed in the play in round. The Rangers were the least prepared team and a solid chunk of that is his responsibility. Hopefully it was a learning experience for Quinn. But I could certainly see a scenario where quinn ends up being the guy that can only get us to a certain point, and someone else is brought in to get them over the top. But that scenario is probably 2-3 years away if it happens.

Why shouldn’t he be?
Players took steps forward in their careers. Young players took steps forward in their development. Team completely overachieved, while being the youngest in the league and with a starting defense that was less than ideal.

While the clock has started to tick, the seat is not even warm. Unless the wheels come off the bus completely, he is safe.
