Wahlstrom will start the year in Sweden. It’s good that Kravy is playing. What is Barron and co going to do until January? Laf? It’s good that Laf gets to train a lot. Not super worried about him. Kakko neither.

Gorton, this summer:

"I think it’s reasonable to assume that we’ll be out there looking to see how we can better our team," he said. "We have a number of picks, a couple first-rounders, obviously, and ways to better our team. Last year was very similar. We used some draft picks to acquire (defenseman Adam) Fox. We used another draft pick to acquire (defenseman Jacob) Trouba. Those are the kinds of things we'll look into and go through. It’s no different this year."

Which is why I don't think he's looking for picks for ADA - unless he's flipping them for a young top six forward.

In most cases, I would agree.

There comes a point where what you're getting just becomes too good to say no to. Pick 3 or 5 pretty much gets you a player who will be NHL ready as soon as this year (or at the latest, a year from now) and ready to contribute on an ELC.

Would you turn down DeAngelo for Stutzle if he's available? Or Rossi/Perfetti at 5? I wouldn't.

But Ottawa won't move those picks either. I expect that the Car 1st will be moved to acquire a player as well.

Smith for Goligoski. Both players have 1 year remaining. Goligoski has a 5.475 mil cap hit and is owed 4 mil in real money. Smith has a 4.35 mil cap hit and is owed 2.35 mil in real money.

We get the better player, they save 1.125 mil in cap space and 1.65 mil in real money.

Wade Redden, Vinny Prospal, or Radek Bonk from his Sens wonder years.

Another decent option could be looking into acquiring Sidney Crosby for 2C. 5 years left at a big cap hit, but he has leadership experience, and could be a good mentor for Lafreniere as a prospect that did well in the Q. Idk if Pitt is interested in trading him though. :sarcasm:

I was thinking we could get Gonchar to be our 1LD

I was thinking Conor Sheary to fortify the bottom six but Crosby would work too.

Well...

No, I don't think I would. ADA is an improving commodity and defenseman that score 50+ points are pretty rare in this league. Call it Zubovitis, but, no, I don't move him for a draft pick. I trade him for another proven commodity that addresses a need or I sign him. But, I get your perspective on it.

I know 3-way deals rarely happen, but it may be possible that Gorton may prefer a boat-load of futures to move them elsewhere to a team in need of cap space. Maybe a team like Toronto or Arizona would prefer the picks/prospects while a team like Ottawa may prefer the proven young player to help propel their team forward sooner rather than later.
this is creative...probably not something that is realistic, but it would open up options.

I'm not "calling out" anyone. All I'm saying is that it takes two to make a trade that makes sense for both organizations. Hypothetically putting out all kinds of stuff that one organization probably isn't looking for doesn't make a whole lot of sense. You have a real problem with people expressing their opinion(s) when they don't line up with yours and then create false narratives about the intent of the person posting.

I'm certainly entitled to post that I don't think it makes a lot of sense for the Rangers in a New York Rangers forum. You can like that or not.

if Ottawa gave up the 5th for ADA the Rangers would take it. Hence, the conversation you can’t grasp is from an Ottawa perspective and their rebuild position.

It takes two GMs to make a trade, so who cares what Ottawa is willing to do in a vacuum?

school tomorrow!!!! Might have to follow along more closely than you have in this thread and the latest response.

I remember when Sutter was traded in the Jordan Staal deal that people were saying he was going to be this star.
he is a solid good 3rd line center. upgrade for NYR adds depth just fragile lol but getting rid of Staal addition by subtraction. he was always known as a checking center even during his draft years?? basically he is what Brett Howden will be like eventually

.

of course you don’t turn it down if you’re the Rangers. Ottawa wouldn’t make that deal.

Hence, the earlier post was them parting with their 3rd #1 pick or some of the 2nd Rounders (that is until the blank chimed in)

Im relatively certain that if Ottawa dangled the 3 or the 5, DeAngelo would be a Senator next year.

Ottawa won't, so this is really a non discussion.

I love when people say things like “we won’t trade so and so for draft picks because those are just futures and we are past that point of the rebuild.”

Oh? What if LA offered you the #2 overall for Buchnevich? Still not moving roster players for “futures”? You turning down Stutzle/Byfield?

It’s all about analyzing the spot in the draft you are offered and the players in that draft.

And in some drafts you can still get a certain stud at 7 or 8.
