If it's Tampa, Gorton will need to move some money around to fit in Callahan's $5.8M. Callahan will be out for the first month coming off shoulder surgery so the Rangers have some time. Tampa would need to move money to fit in Karlsson.

If its Dallas I'm curious to see if Heiskanen is included in the trade.

Why would the Rangers trade for someone who is on their last legs?

Okay I am kind of just being a jerk there but all in all I think they probably have a roster they expect to make the NHL, have a roster they expect to play in most of the games, and have at least given some thought to who will play in what roles.

Good conversation, I don't think we are going to sway each other.

I don't think I ever said the Rangers traded for someone on their legs, or did so knowingly. What I said was that for all we know, McQ could be on his last legs. But, like everything else in this conversation, we won't know until we actually see these guys in action. The comment was made in response to the assumption that McQ will definitely be a lock to play, which I don't take as a given at this point.

I think the key difference in our perspectives is that you view these moves as being more declarative in nature, whereas I don't think anything has been decided and that there are many, many unknowns at this point.

To that end, I believe Rangers probably have some doubts as we head into the season and wanted to be a little more prepared --- or at least try, within reason.

True enough, I do think the moves they make concerning acquiring veteran players are declarative in nature, I do not think camp competition/preseason mean much in terms of them changing their opening roster plans. Short of a Duclair like performance I am going to assume the roster is pretty much already set partially by waivers and other circumstances.

Going to throw out a wild prediction for where Karlsson gets dealt:

The Florida Panthers.

They have the prospect capital to get a deal for him done. I would imagine that Tallon's seat is starting to get hot with the past two seasons of no playoffs when expectations were that they would make it. My final guess is Florida or Dallas for Karlsson. He doesn't sign an extension wherever he goes though.

Good call on Florida, they have the pieces to make a deal.

Can Dallas realistically re-sign Seguin and sign EK long term? Looks like they do have a bunch of space free next season, but this year it'd be hard to fit EK without any moves.

Cause Dreger was speculating Seguin was close this morning.

Howden will center Zucc's line on team C. That's interesting, now show us you can finish, and you'll make the team!

I'm not really sure they aren't giving prospects that time. They do want the prospects to force their hand a little more.

If we're talking specifically about ADA, we also have to account for the fact that he's going to be 23 and has played 71 NHL games and 122 AHL games.

If he's no closer to being an NHL defenseman in 2018, than he was in 2015, and he can't raise enough eyebrows with a new coach to make him an obvious choice for icetime, than I think the problem is bigger than the opportunity afforded to him by the team.

I think that's a key difference between someone like ADA and someone like Hajek, or Lindgren. The latter two are younger rookies who are going to need more time. At this point, ADA should be at a point where the pieces are either coming together enough to earn a spot, or they aren't.

Right, wrong, or otherwise --- Over the last 10-13 years, how many prospects have the Rangers given up on too soon, that went on to find become stars elsewhere?
Nigel Dawes in the khl? J.a.m? Stempniak wasn't a kid but we sold hella low on him. Almost effed up with zucc.

There is no cap space to be the 3rd team in a Karlsson deal anymore

That notion died weeks ago

We won't be involved
f***ing I got one Cup in 80 years and we're supposed to hinder our cap situation to help somebody else win it. f***ing kick rocks, I'll take my second rounder.

Holy our G is blah .
2 vets , 1 backs up hank w Georgiev in AHL then G gets call ups to play games here and there in NHL. Gonna be a revolving door

People complained about Biron, Talbot, Raanta and Pavelec all before they played a single game backing up Hank. They were all fine. I have confidence we’ll be fine between Tokarski, Georgiev and Mazanec. We’ve got a good staff for these decisions.

I’m going to go with a 0% chance with Hoffman being there now. I like the creativity though
