There is no cap space to be the 3rd team in a Karlsson deal anymore

That notion died weeks ago

We won't be involved
There’s room if they make a corresponding move. Here’s one idea...Spooner to Tampa for Callahan and sweetners. Tampa also may need to firm up first/second for next year. Spooner is an Ottawa kid and could be part of the return for EK. Yes, a lot of moving parts but plausible. I can’t imagine Tampa isn’t part of the conversation.

I think Vegas is out with the MaxPac deal. To me that means Dallas or Tampa

I think it’s Vegas. They have the most cap space of all the rumored teams involved. With the Max Pac deal they showed they are still trying to win, might as well go all in and get what could be the missing piece.

So your answer is one, and he played for 2 other organizations before breaking out. (JAM)

JAM wasn't a case of the Rangers giving up on him too soon. We tried to sign him to an ELC and he chose to go to Columbus.

Edit: I can't find an article to back this up, but that's how I remember it happening. Either way, you are right, it took several years and multiple teams before he made it.

Edit2:

A look at former Rangers draft picks

He chose to leave the Rangers organization because he felt that he had a more direct path to the NHL elsewhere.

And that’s what really happened, so the correct answer to the question is: none

Nigel Dawes in the khl? J.a.m? Stempniak wasn't a kid but we sold hella low on him. Almost effed up with zucc.

Eh, I think I'd try to keep it to the NHL, so I'll pass on Dawes. He also played for four other franchises before heading to Russia.

JAM signed elsewhere. We wanted to sign him, but he felt the road to the NHL would be less crowded elsewhere. (That road took him 4 years and through several other organizations as well).

Stempniak was 32 when we moved him and somewhat re-found his productive journeyman hat again after being traded.

If Smith made this team, who could he even play with? Not Skjei on top pairing. Not McQuaid on third pairing. Not Staal on second or third pairing. Maybe LD to Pionk or ADA, and all three of them are competing for 4-6 RD. MAYbe with Shattenkirk, if Shattenkirk drops to second pairing. Options are most limited for Smith this season. I think his best chance is third pair LD, and that’s only if he can knock off Gilmour, Hajek, OGara, and make McQuaid redundant because they sure won’t get paired together. That’s a narrow rope for the wedding singer to walk.

I kind of think Smith is on very thin ice. I had assumed he was a safe bet to bounce back. But they may really be prepared to give the guy the redden treatment. I’m surprised but there’s gonna be a ton of competition and very little room for error for him. Could be exactly what he needs. But geez. Bad signing.

Holy our G is blah .
2 vets , 1 backs up hank w Georgiev in AHL then G gets call ups to play games here and there in NHL. Gonna be a revolving door

Bearing any injuries, major slumps or any other out-of-the-norm event, don't see that Hank gets less than 55-60 starts. I'd rather have Tokarski or Mazanec warm the bench during these 55-60 games than Georgiev. For the remaining 20-27 games, Georgiev getts recalled because why not.

Also looks like our new ECHL affiliate in Maine will be getting the leftovers (Nell, Halverson) this year... I bet they are thrilled. Not.

I would go with this as well.

Maybe flip Pionk and ADA but idea is the same. They both need to play. We need to use this opportunity to see them in a large sample.

I also think Smith needs to play. Maybe he can boost his trade value and be dealt with $ retained. He's still one of the best 3 dmen on this roster anyway. If there were enough kids ready, I'be ok with him in the A. But I dont think that's the case.

What I'd like the D to be:
Skjei-DeAngelo
Smith-Shattenkirk
Claesson-Pionk

Staal-McQuaid

What I think the D will be:
Skjei-Shattenkirk
Staal-Pionk
Claesson-McQuaid

Smith-DeAngelo

Hey man...I'm trying here! Lol

Here is what I think we see for Game 1:

Smith-Shattenkirk
Skjei-McQuaid
Staal-ADA
O'Gara-Claesson

Pionk to AHL

While I think it's a low probability of being the case,

If they are sending Pionk to the AHL, I am guessing it's may partially be because they think Bigas may be plucked off waivers and they do not want to expose him to them.

If they are sending Pionk down, and they are keeping most, if not all their other waiver exempt players down in order to have the best AHL roster they can, including Georgiev and Pionk, at least then I could see more logic in them adding in McQuaid and Tokarski.
