Trevor Lewis is someone I'd take a flyer on if the Kings are dealing. He'd can rotate in and out with Edstrom/Rempe for the stretch run and playoffs.

Bellemare from Seattle is another solid bottom six option. Shouldn't cost much.

I'm not in favor of any big solution at 3C. I don't know how much Mittlestadt will get on his next contract, but it will be a significant amount. If Chytil does come back, then having both him and Mittlestadt is a problem. Brodzinski is a good enough replacement for Chytil for the regular season. Maybe we add a cheap rental for the playoffs, or a cheap upgrade on Brodzinski for the next couple years, someone won't cost a lot cap-wise and can slide down or over if Chytil comes back.

I hate to break JV's heart, but if we can do a Yankees: Chapman-Torres parallel that gets us useful assets and have the option to bring Jimmy back after his current deal is up, YOU DO IT.

Unlike others who arguably were a waste of space, Vesey is a good and useful cog. But he is not an essential, irreplaceable player. If the Martians kidnapped him, we would be rolling Oth or Ber, who deserve a look see +.

And as I alluded, return could include a useful RD.
We are wafer thin there.

Rangers have a first this year, second this year, a first in 2025, and a first in 2026.

In an ideal "going for it" world, is to keep one top two round pick in each draft. This will help to keep the prospect pipeline filled and not repeat what they did in the mid-2010s.

I'm fine parting with a second this year and keeping the first, and parting with the first next year with the goal of getting a second rounder from a team with numerous second rounders like a Chicago or Arizona (get that Nemeth pick back!!!!).

Gourde/Eberle would be a dream package.

You get Gourde for 1 more year and is a perfect 3C. Eberle as a rental and jumps into the top 6.

Nervous about that cost, but that does give you the best forward group in the east imo.

There are some PITAs you can probably get at a cheap price for the 12th forward spot if you wanted to bump Edstrom and Brodzinski to the extras.

Seattle would have to retain a lot but if Perrault and Othmann are the untouchables I’m fine with putting together a package with the other pieces. We’ve essentially debuted 4 rookie wingers this year, Berard and Sykora have developed well but they are certainly tradeable in an impact move that can help beyond this year

Would hate, hate, hate to deal Berard or Sykora, but not all of them can make the team with only 12 spots IF Edstrom and Rempe continue on this path. Small sample size but I have Edstrom in that bottom 6 next year. You already have Cuylle on a wing. Vesey will be back and could continue to be a cheap depth forward as I believe they will extend him again. So you are running out of spots. If Chytil comes back then he is on a wing spot too with Gourde there. There just is no room for Berard/Sykora. Maybe one pushes Rempe to a 13th forward role, but you dont want to hold onto those guys too long otherwise their value will start to go the other way. Their stock is high right now. I prefer Berard to Sykora personally, although I like both. Even Brodzinski is a threat to them. Might as well deal one while their NHL capabilities are still unknown and bring in Gourde/Eberle.

I think Gourde is a perfect fit between Cuylle and Kakko.

Edit: If Chytil is back there isn’t even a path where Berard/Sykora make Rempe the 13th. Rempe becomes the 14th and they are the “13th” but in reality they are in Hartford.

Due to $$$ I think Wennberg & eberle is more realistic. However friedman thinks eberle could be in talks of an extension in seattle so isnt sure he’ll be moved

I’d take Gourde & Wennberg. He’s a useful if unexciting player but Gourde is the prize imo as a plug in PITA 3C who gives you insurance on Chytil for next year. Drury I’m sure is working the phones as we speak. 4 games to the TDL and after these 2 against the BJs it’s measuring stick games against Toronto & Florida.

Actually he wasn’t. Having both Tarasenko and Kane was more of the issue. Guy still produced and would you look at that producing and carrying the Wings on a cheap salary.

Its one thing to say you dont like the player but making crap up is another story. And nah not going to let it go as everyone here is crazy concerned about trade deadline market costs now that we have fast forwarded to late February. I called it at the start of the season and in November when Kane was signing. He was the smart move because he would prevent us from needing to trade assets to plug what would have been one less hole. But hey dont let the statistical facts get in the way of your narrative.

Just to piggyback on this point, I don’t think for one second, and I’m sure I could speak for others, that if Kane was crashing and burning, we wouldn’t be hearing shit from all the rest of you guys that are anti-Kane every minute of every day. Once again, our front office made a terrible asset decision.

Seattle should be looking to get younger. They were a good story last year and great for their fanbase, but they should be dealing the 30 year olds. They have no chance with their current core against the contenders in the west.

Vancouver traded a 1st and 2nd to Detroit for Hronek who has fit in seamlessly next to Hughes

Florida traded a 1st and Levi to Buffalo for Reinhart who has scored a 103 goals and counting in his three seasons in Florida

Well get ready to be upset then because I think it's happening. I'm not sure there are many available players with term and cap numbers we can handle that makes sense in the areas of need. It's always easy for the armchair GM's like myself to say no but It's a tough decision for a real GM when your team is near the top of the league and there is no clear cup favorite. Vancouver traded a haul for rental Lindholm and Winnipeg a 1st+ for rental Monahan. There will be more as the deadline approaches.
