I think that what we are seeing with Rempe is it gives Drury and Laviolette the confidence to know that Rempe could step in and help swing momentum. I’m still not sure we see him in this years playoffs barring an injury. And that’s not a negative, I think he’s showing that if he continues to develop he’s a 4th liner next year to start the season.

I think they add a forward at the deadline that, assuming everyone who is healthy now is healthy when the playoffs start, makes Rempe the 13th forward.

That’s what my gut is telling me even though I am freaking loving what I’m seeing from him up to this point.

I think his play in a small sample has warranted a spot in the lineup.

I’m happy we are hearing rumors that Drury is talking to Seattle. I like Gourde and Wennberg is fine, but Eberle might be the best fit. We need a guy who can create on Mika’s line because those 2 can finish. He has a history of playoff success as well. Another strong vet for a team that’s gotten much younger the past 6 months. The cost can’t be prohibitive while in the Prez trophy lead. Perrault and Othmann are obviously off limits as per Kaplan.

I wonder if he cleaned up his alcohol stuff. Who knows if that played a part in him flaming out. He's an incredibly talented player, I have no doubt in the right scenario he could play in the NHL. He had a decent first year without playing a big role. It's not really relevant to this year now but there's a handful of KHL players I'd take a cheap flyer on that you could bury in the minors if need be

Most of those guys are making too much money to come play in the AHL though. Had a buddy of mine offered a 2 year 2 way deal with Calgary one time after spending 150 games in the nhl, he was up and down a bit. He took a spot in Germany, they paid him well, gave him a house, car, food, all expenses and every cent he made went into his account. He said he couldn't justify going with Calgary when there was no guarantee he wasn't gonna be in the nhl.

I don't doubt that instance at all. But with this I'm not sure, I've seen varying numbers for the KHL. You'd be surprised, if correct the top players are making less than 2 Mil USD a year now. The low salary cap has really limited KHL salaries. The salary cap there is something like ~15 Mil a year

I would still be pissed if it cost a Berard or Sykora. Isn't a 1st enough to get an Eberle?

Garth Joy scouted Kings/Preds on Thursday, and then Kings/Ducks tonight.

Seattle and Ducks scouts were at Rangers game vs Philly.

Brooks says Rangers still interested in Vatrano.

That ends the nightly where are the scouts?

That's it??

They really don't score much in that league.

Of course the Rangers are interested in Vatrano. They don’t seem to understand the type of player they need to play with Kreider and Zibanejad.

I wonder if Anthony Mantha would be a good fit. Big, can play a heavy physical game. I rather go after a big body for that line. It will be needed in the playoffs.

Mantha is a poor man’s PLD. Very enigmatic dudes from Quebec. People get on Kreider for disappearing acts, they should see PLD and Mantha.

I saw those games last night. Seattle should sell Wennberg. They aren't making the playoffs. 5 points out of the last WC. They have 19 regulation wins. Seattle is the Islanders of the east. So many loses in OT.

Kailiyev had his best game in months last night. Maybe Hiller will give him some run because the previous coach didn't have much use for Kaliyev.

Elliotte Friedman reported the Ducks have interest in Henrique and Carrick.

I was always wonder why teams scout the opposing NHL team when the NHL team isn't moving a player from the NHL roster in the trade. The Rangers aren't subtracting from their roster.

Predicted Drury deadline; one significant investment, one value flyer

Plenty of options to pick from

Spooner came in the Nash trade too. Played well for a while then got moved for Strome.
Spooner was a cap dump. Nash was at $7.8M. The Rangers retained 50% and took on Spooner to make the money work. The Rangers took on Beleskey at 50% too. Boston traded Vatrano to Florida for a pick a few days before the Nash trade and people speculated the Bruins were planning to add.

Drury would be crazy to trade a 1st pick for a rental. Again.

1st round pick for a player who will be here for a while. Fine.

Vancouver traded a 1st and 2nd to Detroit for Hronek who has fit in seamlessly next to Hughes

Florida traded a 1st and Levi to Buffalo for Reinhart who has scored a 103 goals and counting in his three seasons in Florida

Do it. Not for a rental.

The Rangers had two scouts at the Buffalo-Columbus game on Friday night

Casey Mittelstadt? Would trading a first round pick "be worth It" as Emily noted for Casey?

Is Chytil coming back? He suffered two concussions this season and is up to 4 or 5 or 6 documented concussions in his career.

I'm not in favor of any big solution at 3C. I don't know how much Mittlestadt will get on his next contract, but it will be a significant amount. If Chytil does come back, then having both him and Mittlestadt is a problem. Brodzinski is a good enough replacement for Chytil for the regular season. Maybe we add a cheap rental for the playoffs, or a cheap upgrade on Brodzinski for the next couple years, someone won't cost a lot cap-wise and can slide down or over if Chytil comes back.

If Vesey + 4th gets a mid 2nd
or
a quality rd
you do it

Vesey is too important to this team to swap him and a 4th for a 2nd (dart board) pick in a weak draft. You don't do it.

This is part of that "track record" that you talk about and I reference as craziness.

Chytil and/or Middlestadt are very tradeable - that wouldn't be a problem necessarily.

Maybe, maybe not. Teams won't be lining up to trade for Chytil coming off a serious concussion. Depending on how Mittlestadt plays and how much he gets in his next contract, his value could go down, but even if it doesn't, you have to consider the timing. If Chytil comes back, we won't know it until camp next year at the earliest. If we get into a situation where we have to trade one of them to clear cap space, teams will bend us over.

Meh. Either one brings back assets. Maybe not exactly what you want but at this point I think you have to move forward assuming Chytil isn't going to be a fixture at center for the next three years. It's a gamble for sure but depth at center has historically always been the Rangers' biggest problem.

Yes, PPG forwards are totally not a fit in the Top 6 of any forward group… this is banana land stuff.

Cant wait to trade more assets in draft capital plus more to address the holes we have when we couldve just signed Kane (probably for $2 million or less because he wanted to be here) instead of just having to trade for a 3C right now…
Kane was a disaster. Let it go.

Actually he wasn’t. Having both Tarasenko and Kane was more of the issue. Guy still produced and would you look at that producing and carrying the Wings on a cheap salary.

Its one thing to say you dont like the player but making crap up is another story. And nah not going to let it go as everyone here is crazy concerned about trade deadline market costs now that we have fast forwarded to late February. I called it at the start of the season and in November when Kane was signing. He was the smart move because he would prevent us from needing to trade assets to plug what would have been one less hole. But hey dont let the statistical facts get in the way of your narrative.
