Would Miller start the convo?

Would for me.

As far as Kane, I‘m glad for him he’s rebounding from his surgery. He’s under 3mil AAV, so it’s a good value contract too. However, he’s not what this team needs. I’m happy with the decision not to sign him, not because he sucks or he’s done, but because he’s not a fit here. We score. Even at 5v5 lately. What we needed most was more edge, speed, and youthful exuberance. We got that from within. Our real need is not a scoring winger, it’s a C and a depth D man. Sure if Kane had fit great with Mka and CK, he might have been a good fit for the team, an asset, but he didn’t so he isn’t. It’s not about hate or being a fan, it’s about pragmatism. A bargain isn’t a bargain if it’s not what you really need.

Brooks reiterating the interest in Vatrano, which is still a whatever move overall to me. The guy obviously loved being here and scores goals, but he’s still a sieve defensively. Adding more speed and a rush threat is a need, but I’m a bit iffy on the potential cost. Verbeek has shown to be a pain in the ass to deal with.

If he takes enough of a discount to stay here, then I'd go for a 5-year deal that would expire the same year as Fox. Before the Girardi comparisons come in, that would be like if we got Danny on a 2-year deal instead of the 6 that happened. I'm okay with that.

At a hypothetical $3.5m, we can still afford a Gus replacement or if we're lucky, a 2-yr sort of cheap deal for actually Gus. If we strike out on Hanifin, both of those guys are a decent Plan B.

That said, signing Hinafan (jk) for free (well, only money) is still my Plan A. If that happens, then Lindy should agree to an even cheaper sweetheart deal for a 3rd pair role to stay with this group.

If the Rangers come up short in the playoffs this year (for the record I think we have an excellent chance at the Cup), I see Lindgren and Goodrow as clear spots to upgrade. Goody is probably on his way out regardless but Lindy can stay if he takes a cheap deal to play 3rd pair minutes.

I don't see Goodrow as an area to "upgrade," per se. Just replace him with Brodz and save $2.8m to spend elsewhere. Minor distinction. If Edstrom is strong enough on the dots, then Brodz can be a 12/13 C/W since we know he can take spot duty on the 3rd line as needed. Even better.

Goodrow's already been replaced in-house. We just need to find a taker. He's well-liked in the room and he's not that bad if it were a cheapo deal, but it's probably an off-season deal. I'm willing to retain $1m if we don't need to add a 1st-3rd, but I'm also fine with a buyout.

LHD still needs an upgrade. Gus has fallen off from his really great start.

I don't care if its Gus or Lindgren tbh but I just dont see the team moving Lindgren.

I really do not want Hanifin. Maybe a guy like Middleton? There's limited options. I'm still on the Chychrun train I just dont see how it works out

I like Gourde I just don't see any reason to make that move. Yanni plays over 17 minutes a game. He's on track for 30 points this season. Brodzinski plays less than 12 minutes a game and is on track for 30 points as well. Gourde has 55 games played, Brodz is already at ~40. It's a decent enough sample size. At this point in Gourde's career I don't think it's enough of an upgrade to justify a trade unless it's for pennies
Except Guorde makes that line like a top 6 line, he's twice the player Brodz is and if we aquire him, Brodz could move to the 4th line.

I think we just need another bottom pair d, someone who is of a different style than Gus, stay at home physical guy we can swap in for different matchups

I don't disagree with what anyone is saying about Gourde. But you look at what we gave up to bring in Copp. Conditional 1st, conditional 2nd.. he was younger than what Gourde is now but similar sort of players. I would not be interested in giving up something like a first for a marginal upgrade

I'm not saying that's what i want to do because i feel the price is too high but we need an upgrade to 3c. Leafs have Taveres in the 3c, Carolina has Staal, Panthers Lundell, etc. That just leads us to overplaying the top 6. Brodz would be nice on the 4th line.

I'm only thinking about this because we're playing CBJ today. I wonder what Sillinger would cost in assets.

Gourde is better than Copp was, or at least he's got the reputation of being better.

I don't think the down year will diminish his value much as he's got a ton of street cred and an extra year of value so this wouldn't be an instance of buying low. I understand the reservations but I also think that the details of his downfall are heavily exaggerated. He's still setting up chances at a pretty high rate, his teammates are just not putting them in and nothing he's shooting is going in (though this was the case last year too, so this is something that may be trending downwards.)

Massive asset on the PK and he's got that dog in him. He can play the chip and chase game which is probably what the 3rd line should be doing anyway. Cuylle and Kakko can grind, give them someone else who can grind and play some defense and there is your matchup line. None of this fantasy Brooks checking line that has Goodrow on it. You can even double shift someone like Kreider on this line (or perhaps even move him there all together) if you want some more offensive pop.

He and Eberle would be my preference of players if they can grab 2. None of this Vatrano bull shit.

Eberle is a good player. Strong impacts on both ends of the ice. Don't think he's the answer to K-Z but he's got a better chance at being the answer than Vesey does.

You should care if it's Lindgren or Gus.

Gus hasn't been good in February. Lindgren hasn't been good all year.

A guy like Edmundson is most likely imo. Even with his bad reputation among the fanbase.
