Zibanejad put this team on his back and toook them to the ECF 2 years ago, which is why it’s frustrating he hasn’t been playing up to that level recently

Zib is at his best when he plays like "a horse" to go back to his junior scouting reviews. He doesn't do that much anymore because he's getting older. Come playoff time that has to be his game again instead of the "finesse" game.

Ottawa wants Kaliyev. He played for the Hamilton in the OHL. The new Sens owner also owns Hamilton. The Sens new hockey boss Steve Staios ran Hamilton. They know him. The Rangers find a way to acquire Kaliyev and send him to Ottawa. Kakko and Kaliyev to Ottawa for Batherson and Greg. Batherson is signed for three more years. $4.975M AAV.

What could the Rangers get for Gustafsson? Would any team offer up #1 pick? I liked Connor Mackey's game in the Sens game. Sell high on Gustafsson.
Ottawa trade is getting like 250 cents on the dollar for Kakko/Kaliyev lol. Sure why not.

Gus would get a 2nd I think. Mackey is worthless. Crazy talk.

Yeah this is true but he is kind of capable of playing one way and we don’t really have the pieces to support that. That’s not letting him off the hook as he needs to be better regardless, but there needs to be some work there to turn that into a workable situation. Same with Kreider who has just become rife with bad habits but take him away from Zibanejad and he goes back to being the good version of himself.

Im laughing at a lot of these “heart and soul” posts calling out Zib and Fox though. The one lengthy run we’ve had recently happened largely because of those guys.

Heart and Soul Trouba literally opened up the door for Tampa to get back into the ECF. They were dead in the water. Don’t get me started on how he’s played this year.

Heart and Soul Goodrow and Lindgren are 2 of our biggest sore spots right now.

Heart and Soul players who offer nothing else are bad players who try hard. They’re worse than good players who don’t appear to be trying hard.

McLellan is gone.
Kaliev should be in favor in LA again.
Team who wants to trade for him will need to play real price

Saw somewhere that Granlund had a very messy breakup last year. That plus playing on a bad team isn't very motivational. He played a few games under Lavi for the Preds, if he gets back on track he is a good player. But... I haven't seen him play lately so if he's done it's pointless of course.
Granlund is a decent player, but he's not an NHL center, period. It has been tried many times, it doesn't work. Granted, maybe in the 3rd, it could be worth another shot when he's not expected to perform like a top-6 center.

The idea was Dowd for 3C along with Granlund as vet RW who might be able to play with Zib.

Yeah that wouldn't fit.

Zib needs someone who can create off the rush and handle alot of the entry work. Thats not Granlund.

If we're looking at the Sharks, It's almost Duclair. However I don't know if I really want to deal with the rest of the hang ups in his game.

I realize that there isn't going to be a perfect option for this, but I just want the option who is going to suck the least. At this point, if were talking just strictly rentals who we know will be available, that may very well be Duclair. Zibanejad is going to be here for a while whether we like it or not so this is one of the few spots where I'm cool with looking for a longer term solution.

I wish that the org would try to solve some of this shit in house before reaching out but they don't have the balls to do it. I'm convinced that the FO/Coaching staff doesn't want to do it because they don't want to bother with the head ache of what happens when the younger guy outplays the trusty vet that they have way too much respect for.

Granlund is hurt right now, but he also makes $5M into next season and is absolutely terrible. Pittsburgh couldn’t wait to get rid of him and dumped him in the Karlsson deal.

I agree completely. That's why I lose respect for the coaches very quickly.

He was excellent in the 21-22 season, but yeah after that the wheels came off for whatever reason(s).

Gauthier I'm not a huge fan of but he's got legs, something we need, and is better than a lot of our bottom six depth. A free player that might add some speed imo is worth it.
He’s not a center. Is he then better than Kakko, Cuylle, Vesey or Pitlick?

Sign him short term and sell as a rental at next deadline if things keep trending downward for them.
Those are the type of machinations that come back to bite in the ass.
We should have sold higher earlier, when there was mo term.
He's gonna get a bit more than the 3 per he gets now, don't add any risk, just sell him now.
NOW

That's not the logic they use or even a fear that they have. They aren't afraid, they're the boss.

They want the kid overperforming in his spot for surplus value, to show loyalty to guys which has value, and when the vet breaks out of the slump they have the best of all worlds.

I don't think coaches manage personalities like that except in very niche situations. Mika may qualify hypothetically but there's never been rumors of him having a sad and hurting his game as far as I know.

That is logical but not the correct ?.
Which is,
if we sell high on somebody is his value as a stopgap worth it b'c it facilitates our going there.

We are keeping KK and Cuy.
I would argue Gauth as a freebie bottom 6, even if limited to checking 4th line W, is worth us getting
a 4th for Pitlick + a 5th
and/or
a 3rd for Vesey + a 4th

something like that

Template time without Kakko

Cuylle Mika xxxxxx
Panarin Tro Laffy
Krieds xxxxx xxxxxx
Vesey Goodrow Wheeler/ Pitlick

That’s 3 spots to fill for Kakko, the minimal picks we have and prospects not named Othmann or Perrault.

I think the D stays the same although I’d shop several guys.

What are the 2-3 moves we make?

No

With the emergence of Perreault.. ( even though he's a year+ away) Othmann or Kakko or moveable for an upgrade piece.

I really, really wanted Kakko to turn into a Finnish monster.... he just doesn't have the temperament. We've seen this already from our core.... For that reason, he has to go. I'm sure he will find success as soon as we move him but it is what it is.
NO to quick surrender of KK.
Peeps forget this guy looked good on kid line w/lesser version of LaF + Chytil.
He has looked good w/Cuylle.
Now, just b'c we have a temporary situation w/a hole at 3C we're gonna ditch this guy?
NO.

Agree dep. on who, Othmann + even Gabe P can go if we can extract adequate profit.
Othman ++ for Zegras + incl J. Per.

J. Per + G. Per to canadian team:
Habs/Sens etc.
for a killing?

why do you trade Laffy for scraps but cling to Kakko?
I 'cling' b'c it is justified as above.
I am not looking at LaF for scraps
I have been trying for something that can land us Sanderson.
That is NOT scraps

"find{ing} a way" won't be affordable, let alone cheap

Bath + Greig are interesting targets.
Price and currency are considerations.

Selling high on Gust is smart in these circumstances
Willing to just stopgap w/Mackey and am optimistic about Scanlin pressing his case the next camp.
Howev, they continue to make a HUGE mistake by not playing Robertson

ForeverBlueShirts speculating it would take Kakko, 1st and a prospect for Henrique and Vatrano. That is just ridiculous..

That's just insane to me. Rental market is out of control but we're stuck because we don't even have an NHL level center for the 3rd line

He’s obviously not on par with Chytil, but you have to admit it’s a MAJOR concern with him
A concern, not a major concern. Would you be worried about Sid in that regard if the Rangers were to acquire him?
