I would never do this in a million years.
Turcotte’s concussion problems are a major risk and Kaliyev needs significant PP time to be successful. He isn’t getting that here as we all know.
I probably would trade Kakko for Byram since he’s proven to be a good player in the NHL, but still the concussions scare me.

Bryam's concussion problems are horrible. He's probably on par with Chytil, wouldn't go anywhere near him.
Pick him up and trade him for Motte. Send Motte to the IR proactively.
If the team is serious get Granlund (SJ) and Dowd (Wash).

Yeah you’re probably right. We can’t trade a 23 year old middle-sixer, with top-six potential, who is cheap, and has 10 years of runway ahead of him for someone who is one or two hits away from having to hang them.
As a rangers fan, we especially know how much concern to have for head injuries: Lindros, Sauer, Chytil, Nash, Staal. Many of those players weren’t the same after their first few concussions. Nash was a totally different player after Lucic smashed his head into the boards.

I’d snag Kaliyev if the cost isn’t high. He’d add an actual NHL top-9 scoring threat. People want Vatrano back, Kaliyev can score similarly. Put him with Kreider and Zibanejad

Dowd is an upgrade on Brodzinski, but people might want to temper their expectations for a guy that shot 21% last year and is still shooting 19.4% this year. Depending on the cost, it’s a good fit, but I can also see him costing an insane amount closer to the deadline

With the emergence of Perreault.. ( even though he's a year+ away) Othmann or Kakko or moveable for an upgrade piece.
I really, really wanted Kakko to turn into a Finnish monster.... he just doesn't have the temperament. We've seen this already from our core.... For that reason, he has to go. I'm sure he will find success as soon as we move him but it is what it is.

why do you trade Laffy for scraps but cling to Kakko?
Ottawa wants Kaliyev. He played for the Hamilton in the OHL. The new Sens owner also owns Hamilton. The Sens new hockey boss Steve Staios ran Hamilton. They know him. The Rangers find a way to acquire Kaliyev and send him to Ottawa. Kakko and Kaliyev to Ottawa for Batherson and Greg. Batherson is signed for three more years. $4.975M AAV.

Mind you, he played almost all of his minutes with Fox (who broke even for the game which means he was practically God out there when he wasn't playing with Mackey.)
No one was worse than Mackey in the lone game he played. But he got his ass kicked and hit someone so he must have had a great game!
We need less players like him, not more. If you want a guy who is big and tough and is actually good, Jacob Middleton is your guy. See if you can entice Minnesota with hometown hero Lindgren.

I like Edmundson as a rents on d. He can play either side and is a big guy who plays a tough game. He’d be someone I’d also re-sign.
Middleton is a fantastic option but I’m not paying the price for a middle pairing defenseice d-man when guys like Demelo, Schultz, Edmundson and Dillon are available for free as UFA’s this offseason. He’s better but not that much better

Vatrano isn't a rental but I wouldn't put too much stock into what that guy is saying. He doesn't know any more than the rest of us do.

Gauthier I'm not a huge fan of but he's got legs, something we need, and is better than a lot of our bottom six depth. A free player that might add some speed imo is worth it.

Saw somewhere that Granlund had a very messy breakup last year. That plus playing on a bad team isn't very motivational. He played a few games under Lavi for the Preds, if he gets back on track he is a good player. But... I haven't seen him play lately so if he's done it's pointless of course.

Turcotte's projection was middle six forward who always makes the right play. That was before his brains got scrambled.
No one would give a shit about him if he was a 3rd round pick instead of 5th overall.
Zibanejad put this team on his back and toook them to the ECF 2 years ago, which is why it’s frustrating he hasn’t been playing up to that level recently
