Provorov at 50% retention is an idea. Wouldn't even necessarily forego keeping Lindgren for the 3rd pairing if NYR chose to go that direction. I think he would work well with Fox and Panarin.

Rangers start their west coast trip tomorrow night, and a pretty brutal schedule..

Thursday - 1/18 - 10pm @ Vegas
Saturday - 1/20 - 10:30 (yes 10:30) @ LA
Sunday - 1/21 - 8:30 @ Anaheim
Tuesday 1/23 - 10:30 @ San Jose

Hate those 10:30 starts.

That takes Gustafsson out which is not something I'm willing to do. He's really effective, and this move, despite Provorov being pretty good, probably makes the team a bit worse after it's all added up.

One of the reasons I'm married to moving Lindgren is not because I hate Lindgren, but because upgrading that side without doing so takes Gustafsson out.

Chychrun/Chabot has been the worst pair in the lig this year. Why do people covet guys without doing a libero? Butt tilting.

At least it's two non-work nights and Anaheim had some mercy on us.

That Tuesday is San Jose is gonna be a no from me most likely.

EDIT: I forgot most of you plebs don't work a 4 x 10 like I do. I will be active for the Vegas game with the few masochists that show up.

Maybe PL wouldn't do this, but I would make Lindgren-Gus the bottom pairing and scratch Braden. Those two worked actually okay from my eye test when Fox was out.

I don't hate that. I would feel bad for Schneider who has improved a lot, but I don't hate it.

I came to the same conclusion as you regarding Gus and Lindgren, for this year anyway at least. Moving Lindgren doesn't do squat. If you want to make a significant move that helps us improve in multiple areas, you consider trading Miller. If you read my posts from early in the season, you know that I love Miller's physical skills. Always thought it was possible that he could be a star, a 2 way stud. But we are really getting to the point of having to ask if it's ever going to happen. I know, I know, but Trouba. Do you really think changing his partner is going to fix him? He's going backwards, not forward.

If anything the Rangers are catching these teams (read LAK) at a right time

How would money work? LTIR clause for Chytil seems off the table. What money are coming out even with 50% retention?

Think Gostisbehere for Lindgren weirdly makes sense for both teams. Then in the offseason you resign either Gostisbehere or Gus based on who they think is sustainable and then you trade assets in offseason for like Provorov/Provorov type (found a couple guys that might fit short term/low-ish salary a couple pages ago). Think that’s kind of the best route.

You send Lindgren the other way

To me, it's about the risk/benefit equation. We need to do SOMETHING to shake up the D pairs. Lindgren/Fox and Miller/Trouba are too comfortable. Lindgren (who I really like) is not a top-pair guy. Anyone available with the talent to step into our top four would surely cost guys we don't want to give up (Perrault, Othmann, Cuylle). Chychrun has a history of playing well. His play this year MAY be due to playing on the right side (where we would need him on the left). He's dissatisfied in Ottawa and reportedly wants out. His cap hit is manageable as long as either Lindgren or Goodrow go the other way. If Lindgren goes the other way, it makes us less likely to give him a "Girardi contract." And if it ends up not working, Chychrun is gone after next season.

There are better odds that this could go well, particularly relative to the cost and the. risk.

I don't particularly covet Chychrun. I just think he's the most realistic player that we could acquire to make a real change in our d-corps.

I like the Provorov idea but I dont see it happening. I dont see the fit if they are keeping Lindgren for at least the remainder of the year. That would mean one of Gus/Schneider sits. I think the coach likes Gus due to familiarity and that he is probably are 2nd best puck moving DMan. Schneider i think has been improving; he is young and they seem invested in him. I mean maybe they bring in a Provorov and they rotate Gus/Schneider the rest of the way
