Of course Laviolette is gonna talk up Leshitshow. He's a retread coach who says retread coach things and protects his guys in the media.

I think Lindgren is waiting for his artificial legs to match his artificial shoulder. I'm not in the "We needed to sell high on Lindgren", camp. Because we obviously needed him when we initially signed that 3 year deal, but now that the contract is ending, it's time to move on. You don't need to get high value for players leaving your team. Trade off his rights for whatever. I'm glad the long term rumor didn't take place. I don't care that now you get meh for him. He was needed and now he's needed away from that top pair.

I don't want to sign Shesterkin for a long term, either. It's not that I don't think he can get his play back to being a very good goalie, I just don't believe in long term, high cap hits for goalies. I wouldn't be against a small term deal, but I don't see that happening.

The bottom 6 is an absolute mess. And Jimmy Vesey probably deserves more than 800k, especially dealing with that mess. Goodrow has to go. The buyout goes on a bit long, but outside of 1 year, it's manageable against the cap, and even helps us save money next year. Sending him down brings it to around 1.8 per the next 3 years. I'm not saying it's the right move to make, as I'd still prefer retaining less than 50% and trading him to clear the cap faster, but one way or another, he really has to go.

Kreider and Zibanejad have chemistry when it comes to making that 1 great play/pas that leads to the puck in the back of the net. Outside of that, controlling the play in the O-zone, wearing out the defense, and creating chances for their line-mates doesn't seem to happen with them together.

Not disagreeing, but every other team in the league needs a guy like that. These guys are unicorns. Just once I'd love to see us draft & develop this type of player.
Othmann, Cuylle, Sykora, Berard, Edstrom and even Laf are all that basic type. players with (varying levels of) skill and an edge. I’d say we are trying.
Though I’m elated we didn’t skip over Gabe to take a guy with more of an edge.

What? The Flyers would have signed the player last summer and started the contract for this season. Players do sign ATO's to play in the AHL and begin the ELC the following season. The bonuses would have started in October.

His buy in? He is 18 years old. He was born in 2004 when the NHL locked out the players to get the salary cap. He doesn’t have a clue how this stuff works. Gauthier has a reputation now. PLD has a reputation. A few days ago against TB, the Kings dropped him to the 4th line and everyone went wild because he requested trades twice in his career. His third team is really happy with him.

The Flyers were in the process of firing their GM and changing their organizational structure.

Gauthier refused to meet with the Flyers during international tournaments. Go out for a Starbucks. He didn't attend their prospect camp last summer. He can't articulate his reasons to the Flyers in person. That's a baby.

Starting the contract early isn't as a big a benefit as it seems. The player needs 7 seasons accrued or 27 to become a free agent. An accrued season is 40 NHL games on the roster. Gauthier isn't becoming a free agent sooner by beginning the contract a few months earlier.
The flyers wanted him to hit UFA a full off season later.
The college kids who sign ATO's are the mid to late round picks like berard or jones.
You dont offer a top 5 draft pick an ATO.

The point of him leaving college early is to start his free agent clock. He would've gotten his 9 games in the NHL last year, which would've meant he'd hit UFA earlier.
Im sorry the flyers arent innocent in this.
You dont treat a top 5 pick like a mid round pick and expect him to not have any reaction.

PLD has a reputation because he did it multiple times for no reason other than "he didnt like the city"
Fox refused to sign with multiple teams but its fine because he's a ranger now?
Gauthier had the exact same leverage, and used it. He didnt have to tell the flyers anything. He could've walked right to UFA stringing them along.

Zibanejad+4th for Danault+Matt Roy (cap purposes, expiring contract)+3rd
Lindgren (50% retained)+Goodrow+1st+Jones/Robertson/Berard/other non-Sykora, Othmann, Perreault prospect for Hanifin

Kreider-Danault-Vesey
Cuylle-Brodz-Wheeler
Blidh-Edstrom-Belzile

Hanifin-Fox
Miller-Roy
Schneider-Trouba

Cuylle-Danault-Vesey
Edstrom-Wheeler-Belzile/Brodz

Hanifin-Fox

Schneider-Trouba

Move Trouba w/ some retention for 1st or 2nd in off-season
EDIT: If LA doesn't want to include Roy in that trade to us, or wants to send him elsewhere for assets, Gustafson comes back in

If the Jackets would move Boone Jenner, I would overpay to add him to this roster. Secondary scoring, can play up and down the lineup and give us center depth. This team is sorely lacking some speed and some tenacity in the lineup. 3.75m this year and next.

Then, if Minnesota falls out of it, I’d try to get Duhaime.

Not sure the cost of either but this lineup would be infinitely deeper, better at cycling the puck, and defensively responsible. I know our defense has been shaky lately but it starts with the forwards. Getting them engaged on forecheck and back check makes a world of difference for zone coverage. I’d also scramble the pairs to see if you can roll something else out.

Kreider Zibanejad Kakko
Panarin Trocheck Lafreniere
Cuylle Jenner Duhaime
Vesey Goodrow/Bonino Wheeler/Pitlick

Miller Fox
Lindgren Schneider
Gustafson Trouba
spare rental

Making trades for fowards only solves a small part of the problem-sending the same 6 defensemen out there every game is the bigger problem

I know I am harping on the guy but Trouba is truly a huge problem. He looks like he is heading toward a Girardi type decline. Thankfully there are only two years left on his contract, but the Rangers should be looking to move him in the offseason. Zibanejad we are stuck with unfortunatel.

Trouba is clearly worried about his wife's upcoming birth. Well he get better after? Who knows.

Trouba has been this bad for a while but yes he should be moved yesterday.
