Well a lot of cap space will be needed
If they shelf Chytil for the remainder of the season, doesn't his salary come off the cap? Also assume that a rostered body likely gets traded as part of the deal, is a lot of cap space actually needed to acquire Zegras?

I do not think Zegras is the type of player we need.
I'm genuinely curious what makes you think he is the type of player we DO NOT need?

If its his defensive abilities, i firmly believe you can coach a young kid to get better at that. I mean for christ sake, the kid is 22 years old and will likely be a 75+ point player for the next 10 years..... If he wants out of a crappy Anaheim team, you do what you can to get him. Especially if Chytil's career is a question mark at this point.

Zegras has taken almost 1300 faceoffs in the NHL and he has a 40.8% win percentage. He's also hurt for at least several weeks. Not sure if folks discussing making a move for him as being an offseason move?
I think given we went from one of the worst faceoff teams to one of the best this year gives me reason to not worry about that, I think the staff can correct his faceoff issues. I'd wanna see the package going back before any trade anyway though

I'd want to grab Dickenson and a stay at home 6+ foot dman.

He's perimeter playmaker. suspect size and defense. Is he getting PP1 time here? Not typically the type you win with imo. We have enough of that. We also have Gabe coming soon

What team has won with a plethora of these types of players?

We need a competent 2way Center. Zegras is not making us a better cup contender imo and that doesn’t even take into account the cost in assets to obtain him.

I’d rather go after Pinto to help the middle of the lineup and upgrade our top4 LHD

Can Pinto play center?

I'd still love to try and build a package around Goodrow, a high round pick, and Berard to try and bring back Tarasenko (shooter we desperately need) and a young C like Ridley Greig...but would also gladly take Pinto in lieu of Greig provided he can slot into Chytil's spot.

Pretty sure he played Center all of last season

I really do not want to dole out assets for more rentals.

Panarin Zibs Laffy
Kreider Trocheck Kakko
Cuylle Pinto Chytil

I'll say this, I really like Zegras. I'd take him if it wasn't a crazy ask or if he was a UFA, but in terms of the Rangers, they don't have THAT many assets. This is because they keep trading away picks for the last few years. I'm not overly interested in trading away a bunch of futures for him specifically just because of what is available to trade.

I really like the Pinto idea if he could be had...

We need a young center with scoring ability.

The defensive acumen can be taught. I'm not really concerned about that, we turn every young player into a hyper-focused defender over time.

I'm not paying through the nose but if you could get him for Lindgren or something you do it all day.

why is Goodrow waiving his NTC for Ottawa

Can you explain to me why Pinto? I keep seeing his name and maybe he has better advanced stats than counting stats but he's less than .5ppg while getting power play time last year. I'm sure he'll be a good player but a) Why are the senators trading him when he's prob going to sign for league minimum after being suspend, and b) to me at least he screams a player that fans will jump on once he hits a scoring slump. I wouldn't be opposed to a deal for him but I remember early on people wanted Laf/KK for Pinto and to me that seemed like an overpayment at least at the time.

you do realize that his 20 goal 35 point season was his first full NHL season,
the season when he was just 21 in training camp?
(he got the icetime, situations usage that Laf and Kakko have not)
tall kid, local kid, NoDak kid, does play center

I think he has great upside and would be a good add
but doubt he is available

if Ott offered Pinto+Grieg+Halliday for Laf, I'd consider that tempting ...

He young, has size, can defend, shoot and solid defensively. Slots in nicely as our 3C.

I'm open to suggestions for 3C. Anyone at this point over Bonino is a massive upgrade.

The problem is he wanted 2.5M from Ottawa. Maybe its a way to force his way out? That was pre-suspension. I don't know what he'd want here

we need to upgrade Trouba which isnt going to happen

unless you pair him with Lindgren and make that the 3rd pair lol

apart from that i think the forward corps would be fine when healthy if we could scratch just one of Goodrow or Bonino. i would prefer both but i'm not getting my hopes up.

Bonino is there because we’re not healthy.
We’re down two top 6 forwards so our bottom 6 is gonna struggle.
