Heres why i think its quite possible we see kakko traded for vatrano and henrique.

1) kakko is an rfa after this season. If we sign him to a 2 year deal he hits ufa at the end of those 2 years and we lose him for nothing. If we sign him to a long term deal hes going to want $$$ and do we want to commit a chunk of money to our 3rd line RW?

2) Gabe Perrault and Laff are our top 6 RW’s of the future. Gabe will likely be here in 25-26 which allows vatrano to be the stop gap for the 24-25 season as gabe does one more year in college.

3) If Kakko is indeed a defensive minded 3rd line RW we have cheaper options in the system that can fill that role, one of which being adam edstrom or a guy with a little more pop/speed/offense albeit smaller in brett berard.

4) the ducks likely would be willing to take that chance to receive the former #2 overall pick who is just 22 years old and last season posted 18G/22A most of which were at even strength.

My hope is they would take goodrow with kakko too but we’ll see

Oh, I don't know. There were some doozies in the late 90's/early 2000's.

Yeah, some of the various Rangers podcasts have been mentioning him. Not crazy about it unless he's willing to sign right away. This team needs hockey trades, not rentals.
Those teams werent nearly as boring though. They mightve sucked but at least they kept you on your toes with the fact a line brawl could break out at any moment

20 points for a guy whose NHL role will be limited minutes on L4, without PP, who has shown zero ability to accrue assists at any level is extraordinarily optimistic.

PIMs are also generally a bad thing/irrelevant without knowing the penalty differential he creates.

The way he creates offense isn’t pretty and those same goals and points are available at the NHL level. Guys don’t compete like they used to on a nightly basis in front of their own net.

I’ll agree to disagree on penalties. Some are aggressive penalties and some aren’t. He’s more the former. I’ll take a player who is the aggressor even if it means some penalties.

I think Middlestedt is a RFA at years end

Gabe is 2 years away and he may not be ready for a top 6 spot on day 1. He may not even be ready for the NHL at that point. We don't really know. It's silly to move someone because you think a prospect can take his place 2 years from now.

There's no reason to trade Kakko. No good reason, anyway. He's not going to get a significant raise. Saving a little bit of money by replacing him with a worse player isn't going to help. Buy out or trade Goodrow if you want to save money.

Kakko has yet to be better than vatrano yet. Objectively speaking for this season and next vatrano would be an upgrade at RW.

Gabe will be a top 6 player from day 1. And that day 1 will be the 25-26 season. You dont see 1st round picks produce at the college level like he is and just stay in college 3+ years.

If the NYRs only move is to acquire one of Henrique, Vatrano, Tarasenko, for the obligatory 1st plus prospect, then, throw in some polyana 5th/6th dman for 2nd, Well, I get it

but....

Color me underwhelmed.

We will see what practice lines look like, but if we are assuming it's due to Panarin's potential paternity leave, I wonder if they line up like this:

Kreider - Zibanejad - Wheeler
Cuylle - Trocheck - Lafreniere
Edstrom - Brodzinski - Kakko
Vesey - Goodrow - Pitlick/Rempe

Would love to see the big boys in there against the Isles outdoors. Would love to see a Rempe turn Cluster**** into a puddle.

I could argue that Kakko is the more efficient player to Vatrano. And he fits the Rangers better.

This would piss me off…

Waste of assets that will surely disappear at years end

Hockeyfights.com doesn't list any for him, but he is a physical player. See the hit he made last night.

If you want to see some fights, look at Rempe:

Rempe is very skilled for a player his age at fighting. If we compare him to when he was 18 years old, his development has been exponential in general but especially in his fighting. His improvement in his balance and core strength and it shows in his overall game too

Kakko must stay. He will be cheap, offers fantastic defensive value, and is 22. I really do not want to move him. We've made these mistakes a million times already. They stash the young guys behind the vets, stunt their development, do not maximize their talents during crucial development stages, don't win Cup, and then that player goes elsewhere and becomes a good player. Who are we getting back for him?

Would anyone be surprised if the Rangers added Kakko included in a Goodrow deal, like the Hurricanes added Teravainen to Bickell trade with Hawks?
Pls God no, in the name of all that is holy, stop w/this mindless stuff.
If we deal Good, retain down to 2.0 per.
Costs nothing then, arguably has value.
STOP SQUANDERING ASSETS WE DON'T HAVE IN SURPLUS
Stop pushing KK out the door

Rempe centered a line last night with Edstom on his left and Trivigno on his right. Matt has been spotted as a Center throughout this season and mostly plays RW.
A dream line would be Edstrom centering Cuylle and Rempe. Put fear into the opposing team.
Edstrom’s first game back from a prolonged injury:

thumbs up on all this, except want to keep Cuylle + KK w/appropriate pivot, prob Zegras + for Othmann + Berard ++.

If we get a legit righty RD
and a sufficient pivot elsewhere, for betw bookend Ws Kreider + Zib
the dream 4th checking line =
Ed - Rem - Trouba !!!!!!!!!!!!

see earlier complaint
stop
stop
stop

understand that bern is correct about this and eventually, if we are ever going to right this situation of depleted youth, causing problems, mgmt will have to yield and do it bern's way

ponder that
AND STOP

I’d prefer if they insist on moving a 1st then get a guy with 1 yr left Atleast .

Vatrano is that but I also rather not go back to the same guys let’s get creative with a new body

Pretty surprised if he goes in general as it would have to be for a similar player that has team control

With that said i think he wants out to get a fresh start

I have an ahltv sub, i watch the pack whenever the rangers arent on. I like edstrom alot. I also think people view rempe as a total plug but the guy can actually play a little. Is he mcdavid? No. Is he a better hockey player than ryan reaves? Yes.

Trading an important piece while being in first is not unprecedented for this organization. I know it was 30 years ago and Keenan hated him but the Rangers dealt Gartner to the Leafs at the TDL the year they won the cup.

Whether they should have done that is another question.

Gartner- even at his age, is probably a faster skater than 75% of our current roster. Think he'd take a PTO? :sarcasm:

I’m going on record to say that if Kaako would accept a 6 year deal at around $3m I’d sign him to that right now. That his value right now and it’s well worth it even if he doesn’t improve. See if he wants security
Completely unrealistic number. Something much closer to the contract and the term that Chytil got would be a lot closer to where both the team and the player could agree on. I’m not a proponent but I think at this point Kakko would be looking for a change of scenery to restart his career and it would be on Drury to find a good deal. Your idea for him to be the principle in getting Hanifin with an extension is an example of that. But the Rangers are already thin at RW this season so I don’t know if Calgary can accommodate us for this playoff run.
