Roster Building thread - Part IX - (2024 edition)

They need energy. I said in the roster building thread; imagine a fourth line of Vesey-Dowd-Edstrom for the playoffs.

That could be a monster shutdown or energy line.
What suggests that Edstrom is capable of being an NHLer aside from the 1 game he’s played thus far? Let alone in the playoffs

Come on now lol

The same offense that scores 22 points in 95 games in the AHL scores 22 points in 95 games in the NHL.

This is not someone with dipsy doodle ice dancing that doesn't translate. It translates just fine.

The AHL does not post the numbers but he is almost certainly getting significantly more TOI in the AHL than he would be in the NHL which would drive that down before you even consider the stronger competition.

Assuming nobody is hurt, he's not going to play now anyway. Not so sure Edstrom will either though he might since he did have one good game earlier in the year. Hartford doesn't play again until Friday. They most likely just called him (them) up to get some practices in and an NHL paycheck before they go back on Thursday. Despite Laviolette's comments after last night, coaches very rarely make changes during a 4 game winning streak when they aren't forced to.

He's a big dude who skates well and gets the puck in the offensive zone.

Why be such a Debbie Downer/Contrarian? And the lol is passive aggressive.

When he was drafted the comparison was to Dwight King but a better skater.

Let’s hear what you’re thinking. As someone who watches Overdrive every day I can’t fathom what it would be.

My guess is you just don’t get cised for Lindgren which is mind numbing. We left that S in 2023.
Maybe it's a generational thing but this word and mid. It doesn't make any sense.

kinda confused as to why Berard is never called up but interested to see what they have nonetheless

Where is he going to play here?

its top 9 or down in the A. I'd love to see if he can be what gets Zibanejad going but that isn't happening. Too much respect for trusty vet Wheeler (who honestly, has been okay for the most part lately.)

If Kakko does get moved eventually, I can see him getting a call up.

There's no built-in flaw that's preventing them from winning in the playoffs. They very well could win the Cup if the wheel of justice landed on their spot.
Goaltending is not championship calibre.

Drury needs to see what he has before he starts dealing. However, why is Berard not getting a look? He played multiple years at the NCAA level and now a year in pro. I think he would make a solid bottom-six speedy pest with some offense.
He also may be looking to showcase someone.

More likely, Calgary plays a heavy game and he wants to have additional armaments available.

Calgary doesn't really play a heavy game anymore. Most of the guys who fit the bill there are gone.

I'd guess that Panarin is about to become a dad. Rempe is around as the extra and Edstrom draws in and possibly gets a longer look with Pitlick being scratched once Panarin returns because Goodrow has immunity.

Edstrom shouldn’t have come out of the lineup after his one game up here, and that has nothing to do with him scoring.

He looked like he belonged, was in the offensive zone all night, and basically just posted up at the net front.

I don’t really have any high hopes for Rempe, but excited for Edstrom assuming he’s going in to the lineup
I agree but I’m guessing it was a purely acap decision. Chytil return was still up in the air at that time.

Ed = W or C
Rempe = rhs likely RW
bone crushing checking line
Rempe centered a line last night with Edstom on his left and Trivigno on his right. Matt has been spotted as a Center throughout this season and mostly plays RW.
A dream line would be Edstrom centering Cuylle and Rempe. Put fear into the opposing team.
Edstrom’s first game back from a prolonged injury:

I have a concern, does Edstrom have fighting experience? Reason I ask cause in the NHL, clean hits do lead to fights. I would not want him to hit if he does not know how to defend himself.

I like Berard but he is 5-9.

The other two guys are big trees and big trees win in the playoffs.

Hopefully, Berard becomes the Rangers version of Trevor Moore and they are patient with him unlike the Maple Leafs who traded Moore to the Kings. Moore is a really good player.

If the task is to find a center, find someone who is defensively responsible enough and can help drive possession to play with Kakko and Cuylle. That’s a big like who should be able to cycle and create offense. Brodzinski to 4C, Goodrow slides over. I’m not paying for Dowd however unless it’s a mid round pick.

I’m still hoping St Louis falls out of the race and it’s Hayes
Casey Mittelstedt
I agree. They don't have enough offensive pop and their goaltending the past several years has been good but not great. A guy like Aho is a great player but it's kind of like Barzal with the Islanders and he's their most dangerous. Their D corps is really good though. The other thing is they don't tend to do much at trade deadlines when a player here or there that could push them further. Last year they pretty much did nothing and they numerous assets they could move to have done so. To me there's a complacency in their front office and it works down into the team on the ice.

The Panthers, Bruins who I think have the best shots to come out of the east are flawed a bit too. For us I don't like Wheeler in our top 6. Recently there seems to be more chemistry from Brodzinski, Kakko and Cuylle. Whether that lasts we'll see but bottom 6 scoring has been an issue all year. The last 20 some games our defense has been abused by opponents a lot and Igor's not having a great year.
Florida has those big forwards. They changed up their lines. Barkov with Reinhart and Verhaegae. Tkachuk and Bennett are still together. They probably need another forward.

Edstrom is a player.

Rempe is a plug. Surprised hes getting a look.
Rempe is a better player than you're giving him credit for. Maybe he won't be able to keep up in the NHL, but he skates pretty well and has some skill. He's not a traditional goon who just goes out, hits people, and punches faces.

His play in the AHL. That's kind of how it works.

Both Berard and Sykora could probably play a game or two in the NHL on pure adrenaline. Both would fade like Othmann. Not enough man strength yet.

Edstrom is a man. Rempe is a monster. Both play physical and can skate well for big men.

This team needs more energy and push. Guys are too content.

Remember in 2007 after Callahan and Girardi came up and it brought some energy and spunk into the team.
This. Were the most lifeless boring team in the nhl. Ive never watched a less entertaining ranger team in my life

Oh, I don't know. There were some doozies in the late 90's/early 2000's.

Yeah, some of the various Rangers podcasts have been mentioning him. Not crazy about it unless he's willing to sign right away. This team needs hockey trades, not rentals.
