It honestly will take a miracle run to win a cup with this iteration of the roster.
I see what you're saying but what if Igor became Igor again? Also every single team in the Eastern Conference is as flawed as us if not more.
Also would require us to play complimentary hockey (i.e Igor playing well simultaneously with decent 5 on 5 play). If that happened we could compete with anyone in a 7 game series (at least in the east).

Dowd for a 3rd or 4th and Jones.

Carolina reminds me of the Oakland A’s of the 2000s — built to win the regular season but not the playoffs.

I agree. They don't have enough offensive pop and their goaltending the past several years has been good but not great. A guy like Aho is a great player but it's kind of like Barzal with the Islanders and he's their most dangerous. Their D corps is really good though. The other thing is they don't tend to do much at trade deadlines when a player here or there that could push them further. Last year they pretty much did nothing and they numerous assets they could move to have done so. To me there's a complacency in their front office and it works down into the team on the ice.

The Panthers, Bruins who I think have the best shots to come out of the east are flawed a bit too. For us I don't like Wheeler in our top 6. Recently there seems to be more chemistry from Brodzinski, Kakko and Cuylle. Whether that lasts we'll see but bottom 6 scoring has been an issue all year. The last 20 some games our defense has been abused by opponents a lot and Igor's not having a great year.

I think you're both right and wrong.
The rangers as their playing now would struggle in the 3rd rd, maybe even the 2nd. But we also haven't played even close to as good as we can.
And if we can see what that looks like, then I think we can have a better idea of how far we go.

Right now the players I'm confident of in the playoffs, are Laf, and fox.
I think Kakko will do better than expected, I think Trouba might.

But if mika/ck/and miller start playing closer to full expectations, then we have a much different team.

Kreider's IMO has been fine this year. Mika not so much. For me it's pretty much even that Chris has been a better player overall in all areas than Mika and that's an issue. Trocheck's been better than Mika and really Mika should be head to head with Panarin as far as a guy driving our offense.

I like Lafreniere's season apart from him not being all that lucky. Even without top unit power play time he could easily have 15/20 more points.

I think we do better if the goaltending corrects itself because for one when bad goals go in it affects team confidence and it's one thing to chase a game a bit when your goaltending isn't a problem.....it's a lot worse when it is. It's a reason why I don't mind when we win low scoring games or even mind so much when we lose to a really good opponent in a low scoring game. It's like your team isn't giving anything away. We're capable of playing tighter more structured hockey if we have to and sometimes it's good when the coaching staff kind of puts the brakes on.

If the task is to find a center, find someone who is defensively responsible enough and can help drive possession to play with Kakko and Cuylle. That’s a big like who should be able to cycle and create offense. Brodzinski to 4C, Goodrow slides over. I’m not paying for Dowd however unless it’s a mid round pick.

I’m still hoping St Louis falls out of the race and it’s Hayes
