Im failing to see the logic of the pro 2nd rebuild people who also say the Rangers cant develop players

Well if they fully commit to a rebuild they can.

Getting reps is important and you can thank Jeffy G for not stripping down the roster enough to allow that to happen.

If they were going to do an actual true rebuild Panarin would have never been signed, Kreider would have never been extended, Trouba doesn't get traded for (though timeline wise I understand this one, I don't think they anticipated his game falling off as soon as it has) and Zibanejad is probably a holdover for a bit and moved before he signed his current deal. Thats almost the entire top PP unit and a guy who has eaten more minutes than anyone on the defense.

Fox is the one guy from that era of the rebuild who really smashed expectations and thats because he got consistent minutes and ended up with expanded responsibilities.

Though had DeAngelo not gone f***ing bat shit, that probably doesn't happen either.

No one really wants to admit it but it's coming sooner rather than later. I don't think its realistic for them to throw in the towel now but if they go out with a whimper again this year I'd be surprised if they didn't make some pretty big subtractions from this roster.

The Metro is terrible so its not out of the realm of possibility that the Rangers are carried through a couple rounds by Fox/Panarin/Igor, but I think even the most generally optimistic fans know a retool is coming in the summer. Goodrow is an obvious goner. Lindgren and Kakko are seeing their roles diminish by the day and need new contracts. Miller has been stagnant. Kreider and Trouba become moveable. Im open to pretty much anything as far as trades go because the team will have the flexibility to retain a player who fits even if they trade for them as a rental.

Coupled with the fact that 21-22 year olds Lafreniere, Cuylle, Schneider are progressing gradually and we have a lot of useful forward prospects in Hartford, I think 2025-2026 will be about changing the look of the team. It may involve a step back but in today's NHL we'd still be in the mix. Tanking for high picks isnt happening again.

Maybe the play is to move Trouba in the summer and promote Schneider. .....
sounds familliar?
Oh yeah, I've been saying that ever since we got locked into his deal

Drury needs to do SOMETHING.

This lack of forward depth is untenable.
NO
panic desperation moves cost more in the long run
almost never succeed

listen to bern
dump most vets
go w/youth
don't be afraid to do youth for youth even overpay up to a point depending on the currency,
in order to build w/mo foundation pieces

Hate to say it, but we ought to be rebuilding again. We don't have any shot at winning the Cup with only 2 NHL centers, one of whom is a giant softy. We have no center prospects on the way, and our superstar winger is entering his mid-30s.

Obviously it will never happen because this organization's MO is fixing the sinking Titanic with Flex Seal. We'll trade futures for some short-term fix that won't work and we'll get knocked out in the first two rounds of the playoffs again.
bold 1: don't ignore that is a possible reality depending on like, x, y, + z

bold 2: hopefully they will listen to bern and no more stupid rentals

I also believe we need another rebuild... as this one is stillborn.

That said... I'd feel a lot better about going into a rebuild with some proof that our forward development process has undergone a thorough post mortem of the absolute failure of the last "rebuild" and made complete/significant changes.

The biggest problem, along w/rentals, failure to develop, etc. is folly of not listening to bern and making it a team policy, no exceptions, no one gets 111% NMCs. Don't care if it is bobby orr.
Yes, you can give generous ntcs that minimize over time
but no effin nmcs

How much would it cost to turn Goodrow into Boone Jenner?

Pinto making a lot of sense. Pay the price
NO NO NO NO
damn it to effin hell no

Jenner e/w'o sweetener to take back salary, is expensive

paying the price repeatedly is what results in more of the same.
It is not a hard concept to note

we need to do smart deals like bern suggests

I wanted to sell high on Shesty, and I got excoriated
now not so much

ditto Lindgren
again the board is begrudgingly admitting, albeit silently, I was right.
We are getting less b'c they will have reduced term

bern is like The Stranger [Billy Joel]
'he is not always evil and he is not always wrong'

Sorry dude, you don't get to claim any special prescience on that matter. Since we drafted Schneider, people have been suggesting that he will eventually take Trouba's spot once Trouba's NMC is done. We are now coming to that point. Schneider hasn't taken the step we hoped he would, so it hasn't been suggested much lately, but if he needs more responsibility to take that next step, then this summer might be the time to do it.

I don't claim to be the ONLY one to have said that, but I was on record about it way ahead of the curve. Most were kind of maybe about it. I said up until recently that Trouba's performance did not justify keeping him, and when that finally started to change somewhat, I continued to maintain that b'c we would want/need to try and recover most of that 8m per cap hit, we should plan on oving him to DET

So I will assert that claim

Well it's time to figure out what the plan is now that we can't count on Chytil for the rest of this season. Need a center with speed.

Bonino cleared, they probably won’t even send him down if Chytil is bad.

Edit: or not

Does everyone just ignore the will of management when dreaming up trades, Trouba Lafreniere Kakko, none of them are going anywhere. Team likes Trouba, made him captain, Lafreniere has finally turned a corner, Kakko is at his lowest value, yet still worth his contract. I'm not exactly sure who they'd move from this roster but its not those guys.

Shocking nobody wanted him lol

Thomas Harley is everything the Rangers want Miller to be. Harley had a great game last nght playing with Miro. The Stars are very good.

Miller and Schneider have so much more to give. Brooks was discussing Schneider on the podcast with Boyle yesterday. Schneider is stuck on the 3rd pair. He plays better with more responsibility and more minutes.
Both Miller and Schneider are drowning here . I would get rid of Housley in a NY minute [somebody call him a Uber].......pathetic .

Only reason that Chytil update sucks is now we can't trade him. He can't be relied upon. And he isn't that great of a center to begin with.

Actually, 2 reasons. If it is serious, and he goes back to LTIR, that might give Drury cap space to do something stupid.

Schneider has made obvious improvements to his game this year but he's "drowning."

i swear some of you just make up an alternate reality so you can see what you want to see.
He did look like an all-world talent when he stepped up with KAM for that game Trouba left .... neeed more of that

The way to develop Schnedier is to open up the spot but go get a good 3rd pairing RD and pay for him on a short deal. @RangerBoy mentioned Demelo, I mentioned Schultz. There are options this off-season.

The other thing is to trade Lindgren and go sign someone like Dillon, Cole or Edmundson. Short term deals. Bigger guys who also play a physical game. They'll cost very little and they should get an asset or two back for Lindgren.

So when are the Rangers trading for Crosby? :sarcasm:

Drury goes big again, adds Guentzal and Crosby. Rangers out in the first round. Book it.

Lol if the Rangers added Crosby they would dunk on the entire conference.

It isn't going to happen, but I think people need to realize how good he still is.

He's been pretty good beyond that.

If he gets an extended look with Lindgren and still does good work then it's really time to give him more minutes.
