I don't understand why people feel the FO is unhappy with AV. If AV didn't want Ruff, there's no way Ruff would be her.

I think if the front office was unhappy they'd just fire AV, but there could be some pressure on him to improve his results as well.

which maybe seems silly considering what he's gotten out of his teams since getting here but I guess it's arguable there has been a down trend in the teams play these past couple of years...so do you blame the GM or the coach...if you're the GM you blame the coach

I doubt it... it's for the benefit of having two head coaches. but really only one. Closest we've even been to a Crosby-malkin... more so than hank-cam.

Still am very worried about the penalty kill.

Still think they should trade Buchnevich to get a center.

Girardi had no trade value to other teams. The only value he had was as a player that costs nothing in exchange. Thus the buyout. Why are people so convinced Gorton didn't try or try hard enough to trade him?

I specifically said I believed Gorton had been trying to move him probably since last summer.

Obviously, he did have value (proven by a 2 x 3M contract with TB) but there wasn't a deal to be made for whatever reason. 50% retained and a 7th would've been a better move for TB.

why do people think Staal was worse? Girardi was terrible and a couple of hits and a few solid shifts in the playoffs doesn't mean he was "good"

Look at what role they were each playing and who they were matching up against.

Staal was decent through December but he absolutely fell off a cliff after that.

Both weren't good, but Staal's contract and NMC make him the better buyout candidate.

thankfully you're the only one

I shouldn't be. Rangers badly need a center and have a limited open window. They should be pulling out the stops to get that player. AV and Ruff are not great coaches to develop Buchnevich either and another up and down year due to bad coaching torpedoes his value or puts him on the Nischuskin track.

Delaying buying out Staal by one year is a better option. Two fewer years. If you look at the combined cap hits,it's cheaper. Staal sucks. Everyone knows that. Suck it up for one more year.

That's an awful lot of of cap space chewed up for for the foreseeable future if Staal is bought out.

As much as his game has fallen off, is his value to the team more as depth defenseman with a ton of experience? If his minutes are limited maybe he can be an attractive chip at the deadline for a team that needs more playoff experience. But it will to take an idiot to trade for that term, even at half price.

I think the Rangers would have pulled the trigger by now if they intended to buy him out. Like RangerBoy said I think theyll have to wait one more season. Sucks but it is what it is.

If Gorton was ALL IN to win,Stepan would still be here. The Rangers would have found the money to pay Shattenkirk. Gorton didn't do that. He is trying to rebuild on the fly. Be competitive. Make the playoffs. Keep his draft picks. Add young players in free agency. Trade for young players. In the middle. Not balls to the wall let's go for it and not be bad for a better lottery pick. He has the Rangers on the right track. Patience. He has to deal with hand Sather dealt him. Four straight years of no #1 picks. The Staal and Girardi contracts.

The guy is doing a phenomenal job. And to your credit, you said he would when he took over for Slats.

I had no idea that Gorton was the one who traded Raycroft for Rask. Damn, that man is good.
