If the Rangers want to acquire their top center, they may need to part with a crucial piece.

http://bluelinestation.com/2017/07/24/new-york-rangers-must-consider-trading-j-t-miller-center/

Swapping Miller in a deal for a player like Mikael Backlund would continue the youth movement, while also ensuring positions of need are filled.

How does trading Miller (24) for Backlund (28) continue the youth movement? Backlund has 1 year left on his deal. No way I'm giving up Miller for him.

Miller to Carolina for Lindholm.

Canes probably say no/want a small add. Consider youth+potential+cost-controlled years.

55.6% faceoff player, so HFNYR will obviously love him.

You realize Lindholm is a -62 in his career and has been a minus every year?

****kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Never mind. He's trash.

Wow. -62 in 293 career games. If you prorate that over 1000 games, he's going to be a -212.

TRASH!

Kinda sucks that Carolina makes our best trading partner in every facet, but we won't trade within the division. Needed a young d? Carolina. Need a young, skilled forward? Carolina.

the guy writing it does have sources--he's the one who called Fast to have surgery this offseason like 3 weeks before the rangers announced it

I believe you're thinking of FullTilt. I don't recall BLS stating anything about Fast having surgery weeks before it was announced.

I was pretty unimpressed with Puempel when he was here. Always assumed that he was almost pure ED fodder. Do we really want him as a top 13 forward?

Without him we only got 11 forwards, right? Fast is injured, that gives us 10. Where are the depth signings? I like Nieves a lot, not a ton of potential but he should become a NHLer if he can stay healthy. But he should play not sit in the stands. Could be an option for sure, but still think we need a little more depth. Lias Andersson? One thing to give a kid a look, but you can't count on a 18 y/o. Where are the Jooris signings? We don't have that type of depth at all, and this season you would imagine that we would need it more than ever.

Who are we targeting? Why are we waiting so long? Will we go hard after Alex Kerfoot? Do we really believe in Tkachev? Something don't quite add up for me. In mid July you should have at least 12 capable forwards and 2-3 who can put up a fight. I don't buy that we are counting on Puempel, he wasn't good enough. That gives us 11 plus Nieves who must play and Andersson, WHEN Fast returns. Until then we have 3 openings.

My guess is they are waiting to sign Zibanejad and then they will start moving forward with depth signings.

I do believe that Butcher, Kerfoot, and Tkachev are high-priority targets. There's another Center, Torininto or something like that, he is probably a target too

At this point Nieves should have a real good shot at a 4th line role. His speed and size alone would make him an ice addition in that PK and defensive role

Mika would be smart to settle prior to the arbitration hearing. He'll be fast on his way to a $900K contract once Jeff Gorton presents his DJing and hobbies as an exhibit of his problematic off ice behavior and lack of dedication to hockey.

AV's been singing Boo's praises since last off-season. I think right now, the 4C spot may be his to lose.

I agree. I think DD becomes the 13th, puempel the 14th. Still think they go after some NCAA free agent signings as they give those guys the best chance in hell to succeed here. Don't forget Vladimir Tkachyev

Speaking of which can anyone provide me the list of notable NCAA free agents for August 15th?

DD is gonna start on the fourth-line because Fast is hurt. AV is going to fall in love with him. DD is going to see more time in the top-6 than Buchnevich does this year (half kidding).

would be fine with Nieves as the 4th C if we still had Stepan, Zibanejad, Hayes. we don't.

Zibanejad, Hayes, Desharnias, Nieves? geezus. :help::help::help::help:

you guys are sleeping on jt as center.. i think dude would be awesome there.. remember he was drafted as a center.. i think he would be excel there for sure.. you guys are forgetting him and hayes dominated on the PK last year.. he worked a lot on his game, and I'm sure he'll be even better this year

if Andersson doesn't make it, id love to see JT there..

He was awful as a center. It was too much for him to handle his first few years in the league. I've said it a bunch of times, but I don't think it's coincidence that he blossomed once he was moved to the wing. Maybe he'd be better now that his overall game has improved, but that would be last resort in my book.

Too big, too fast to keep him in HFD. IMO he makes the squad out of camp, barringin jury or trade.

He was awful in HFD after the 20 game mark. The size, speed and skill are there, but if he is to be an NHLer, but I just don't see it. Maybe he needs more time, and he's an easy guy to root for, but if he is to be an NHL player, then you would see him make an impact in the AHL.

That is something that he did not do.

Agree and can add Spooner.

What about Fisher on a 2 yr deal for 2.5 mil? Or doing something with COL around Soderberg and Staal/Holden?

COL isn't taking on any money beyond barely kissing the floor if possible. Soderberg's hit is too high moving forward imo, Ranger just need what they lost in the expansion draft.

Fisher is either retired or back to NSH. He's someone that I've always admired. Great guy off the ice and a real leader that gives it his all every shift. Which is a need for the Rangers but he's 37. That's a one year deal at best.

Spooner is an excellent PP and soft minute option that is going to make a lot of money in arbitration.

I put Spooner in the Jeff Skinner mold of a player... IE former figure skaters that have that shifty S-move that drives defenders crazy.

But Spooner isn't reliable defensively. I'd trade for him if the cost was reasonable. But IMO the Rangers need a match-up center.

They can give the top 9 softer minutes to score more if they get a 4th liner that can play a checking role.

I still think it's going to be a player that comes out of left field for bit and caps out at $2,5M.
