That contract will honestly look like a steal when the cap jumps but idk if Copp is good enough 2C to get this team to the promised land
He won’t take 5 millionX6 years?
I was hoping 5.25x5 max but seems like less than 50/50 that will happen

What about bringing back Cam Talbot?
I don’t think that’s a good idea for a few reasons: 1) Talbot is mad at Minnesota because they just signed Fleury and he wants to be the number one. 2) If the Rangers trade for Talbot(no trade protection I believe) it’ll be the same situation as in Minnesota where he’s going to be the backup, however at least with Minny he would split more games with Fleury compared to Igor. 3) his cap hit is 3.6, Minny would have to eat some cap space which only means the Rangers would have to sweeten the deal to make it happen.

Anthony Stolarz at $950,000 would be a good addition. The Ducks don't have anyone to replace him. Anaheim needs to spend $18M to reach the floor. They don't have any big free agents to re-sign. Lundestrom has arbitration rights. He is a good player but won't break the bank. Kevin Weekes keeps tweeting about John Gibson to Toronto or Washington. Those teams don't have much to deal. Trading Gibson puts Verbeek into a deeper hole trying to add more money for reach the floor. I read the one of the problems with Gibson is that he has too much term remaining at five more seasons. The Ducks want a lot for him.

Let's assume NYR don't break the bank on a center in free agency this year. Copp and Strome depart, and no major trade is made.

What options are there out there for a more defensive-minded 3rd line center to hypothetically slide in behind Chytil, as opposed to in front of him?

If NYR go that route, what line does Panarin play on?

Kreider-Zib-Laf
Goodrow-Chytil-Kakko
Panarin-???-Kravtsov
Blais-???-Reaves/Hunt/Motte

Also, slightly odd that we were hearing that both a Kakko bridge and Motte deal were imminent a few days ago and crickets since.

I can understand you thinking its odd but honestly its a smart tactic that NFL and NBA gms use in order to have a handshake agreement on the deal basically have it signed but for cap purposes and not letting other teams know if your financially in a bind especially in the case for looking to make a trade becomes equal grounds instead of a place of weakness in negotiations.

There is zero chance that a team giving Ryan Strome significant minutes in important situations can win a Cup. If they resign him, or go after his brother, any aspirations of winning it all in this “first window” here go completely down the toilet.

We do not need anymore offensively oriented players. We have a top ten C and a 50 goal scorer on the first line. We have the league’s highest paid, and of course defensively questionable, winger on another line. We have three top ten pick wingers beating down the door for more ice time, and a recent first round pick that just scored 50 goals in 66 games in the O.

The pieces needed to score goals are in place. Those players need to be complemented with players that do the shit that scorers don’t like to do. The opposite of Ryan Strome. They cannot afford more offense, and they simply do not need it.

Two way players that make life difficult for the opposing team. That’s it. Do not over complicate this.

I didn’t say I was overly advocating for either Strome, just that they aren’t as bad as many here state. It’s hilarious how much flack both get honestly. Are they perfect? No. Should the team have better options? Yep. Could a team like Seattle use them? Probably.

Asking for $5.5 x7 is just that, asking. They should ask. It doesn’t mean that’s what they get from a good team. I’m betting he settles for $5.25 x 6 and it’s with the Rangers.

Also in terms of backups, the Rangers should be pursuing 2 goalies.

NHL
Shesty
______

AHL
Garand
_______

ECHL
Lindbom
Other guy they just signed

For me, I’m signing
Lindgren for 2 years
Kinkaid or someone like him for 1 year

After what Kempe just got, 5 x $5 is fair. More than fair. And if its not good enough for Copp, as much as I like him, pining for him all last season up until the trade deadline, we should walk away.

That’s possible. Kempe doesn’t play center. I get the ask from Copp’s team of the Hyman deal. I still think the Danault deal is the clear comparable.

Wasn’t Kempe also a RFA though?

The issue with Copp is that it seems the Rangers want to go shorter term (3/4 years) and he is going to want as long as possible

I recall Anaheim is quite fond of Stolarz. Not sure why they'd move a nice goalie that doesn't have much value but the player would be perfect for us.

Henrique at 50% for Lundqvist and Nemeth is a good way for them to keep their cap up.
