You mean like Tampa and Vegas?
Still, even if he is ready to play in game 42 that’s still half his salary.
You know he still gets paid if he’s out injured. So what does his agent have to do with it?

Nothing like Tampa or Vegas. They said right away Kucherov was out for the year. Stone, looked suspicious, but came back anyway and was clearly hurt considering his production after returning. The other guys they moved around to get Stone back also was hurt.

His agent has to do with it because the player wants to play? And he needs to play because he needs to perform for future contracts.

Gorton always wanted quick Ds that could get to pucks fast to get it up ice to heavier forwards.

Would he be interested in Nils Lundkvist?

Cayden Primeau for Nils Lundkvist ?

This is your bonehead post of the year, because you’re one of the best. (And I will give you grief for it in our group chat).

Primeau is not that good.

Lundkvist and Nemeth to Habs for Ryan Poehing and Jake Evans

$$$$

Thats why. His dollars are going to be needed to pay other guys unfortunately. Has nothing to do with performance.

I'd love to be rid of some other players instead, but they've all got clauses.

There are plenty of ways to skin the cat besides one year of Ryan Lindgren at $3 million.

Back-up goalies.

Which backup goalie are the Rangers acquiring?

Wedgewood would have been perfect. He stayed in Dallas. 2 years/$2M.

Drury said he is looking to acquire a goalie in free agency or through a trade.

Martin Jones?
Jaro Halak?
Thomas Greiss?
David Rittich?
Eric Comrie?
Louis Domingue?
Charlie Lindgren? The Blues have a goalie named Joel Hofer who is apparently pretty good. Go with Hofer?

Braden Holtby is retiring.

Anton Khodubin is the odd man out in Dallas. He is coming off hip surgery. Dallas is looking to move him. Can they buy him out with his injury? He isn't cheap at $3,333,333.

Cheap contracts. No games played bonuses for Greiss or Halak.

Trade?

SJ has three goalies. Reimer and Hill are signed. Kahkonen? Grier will qualify him by tomorrow. Does SJ trade him? How much is Kahkonen looking for?

Is Toronto acquiring two veteran goalies? Maybe Eric Kallgren? Joseph Woll?

Ottawa has Filip Gustavsson. They are trying to trade Matt Murray. Even if they trade Murray, they could be in the market for a goalie. What happens to Gustavsson? Anton Forsberg just signed a contract extension in Ottawa.

We've talked a lot about this topic over the last few weeks.

Lindgren and Comrie are the young guys and the way to go if the Rangers are penny pinching/Allaire likes what he sees.

Kakkohnen if the Rangers can swing a trade with the Sharks, Halak, Greiss are other options but the later two will cost more.

The smartest value move is to sign Lindgren/Comrie and have Kinkaid as insurance.

Joey Daccord? making 750k and behind Grubauer and Driedger in Seattle.

This board lately is turning into those old guys in the park playing chess with the clocks and smoking cheap cigars talking about the Mets when I was kid with every conversation ending with "We Shall See..." one of the most overused NY tropes and no context or protein.

We're starting to get news of more RFAs not qualified whether D. Strome, Ulf Dahlen's kid in San Jose, Kubalik, and more will keep popping up the next 36 hours.

So what does this all mean to my "criticism" above?

Well the answer doesn't have to be PLD or JT Miller or pray Malkin takes a bargain to play with a few Russians and get free meals in Brighton Beach.

Drury is being patient and watching all of the chaos unfold around him. The Rangers may have some options of players in their mid-20s with upside at $.75 on the dollar for short term deals. Dylan Strome at $3.1 million and Rafl at $975,000?

Wonderful, that will leave cap room to go after another depth player (Roy or Kolesar) and round out the lineup.

The only team that could give Copp or Malkin the term they want who might be competitive is Anaheim. Seattle isn't going to do that. No one is going to Arizona.

If Drury remains patient and plays the long game, he'll do very well.

Like who?
Goodrow, the buyout money going down to zero, Blais, Nemeth, Reaves, Hunt, and one of Chytil or Kakko (whomever doesn't break out) I think are all viable options to go before Lindgren.

Plus the cap will go up slightly.

They could also bridge both Miller and Laf and then give them a HUGE pay day the summer of 2024.

Backups should pay to come here and learn from Shesterkin and Allaire. Make a job listing posting for $1M on craiglist and make the available backups apply.

I don’t know much about Primau’s kid, probably haven’t even seen him since his WJC.

But seriously, give Allaire some suspect kid to work with and he turns him into a border line 1st round pick trade asset.

Why not give him a very good goalie prospect? 32 teams in the league, that is plenty. If you have a top goalie, it’s a long way to be in the upper half. I don’t think we can get Askarov or Wallstedt or Knight, but the group after that?

If Lundkvist isn’t traded this off season I am a bit worried about his development path/outlooks. A D’s scoring is so dependent on the PP and team infront of him. HFD is a mess. It’s far from a given that we can count on him improving his trade value in the AHL.

Along the same lines as your post is based on — trade Nils Lundkvist for a good goalie prospect that can play behind Shesty and work with Benny, that kid’s value would be something I would invest in.

Only 1? I don’t do well under pressure, I need at least 25-50. :)

I like Filip Gustavsson a lot, he is also a great kid from my neck of the woods, Nils for Gus?

3 years from now we should get more in return from him than we ever could get for Nils after being kept out of the spotlight by Schneider.

Another kid with even more potential (perhaps) is Ottawa’s other keeper, Mads Søgaard. The 6’7 kid. Benny could work wonders with a kid like that.

I think the Rangers are more likely to sign a veteran goalie to back up Igor rather than a young developing goalie.

What about bringing back Cam Talbot?
I could get behind this, great guy. He’s a decent goalie who was really good under Allaire. I think character matters a lot for a backup as they’re the ultimate example of someone who has to be a team first player, and are a cheerleader on the bench most times. That’s why Georgiev was maybe the worst backup in Ranger history.

Minn would have to retain a lot. His cap hit is $3.66m.
And they won’t. Plus they will want assets even if things seem a bit contentious right now. Bottom line is we need a “free” goalie who will take less than 1.5 per.

1-1 would be brutal. Maybe if they added mysak or Joshua Roy(still crazy he went in the 5th round to me). I feel that would be pretty close in value. Maybe nyr add a bit.
